2027: Speak Up On Presidential Ticket – Keyamo Tells Jonathan by Bobloco(op): 2:45pm On May 31
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has urged former President Goodluck Jonathan to say “no thank you” to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, factional presidential ticket.

Keyamo explained that the PDP faction that gave Jonathan the presidential ticket is not recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Recall that the Tanimu Turaki-led PDP had announced Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

However, Keyamo urged Jonathan to reject the gesture for the sake of his global image.

Posting on X, Keyamo wrote: “This is some kind of bizarre comedy taken too far by supposedly grown adults and some names that were actually in the corridors of power at some point in this country.

“Giving a whole Presidential ticket to an ex-President and statesman by proxy and by a bunch of people not even registered on INEC’s website.

“And they don’t give a hoot, dragging such a revered figure into their charade that is certainly a journey to nowhere. Quite sad.

For the sake of his global image, President Goodluck Jonathan must immediately issue a strong ‘no, thank you’ statement, lest Nigerians begin to recall the ‘clueless’ campaign that got him out of power – first sitting President to be so ousted.”

Festus Keyamo's statement raises more questions than it answers.

First, whether a particular PDP faction is recognised by INEC is a legal and administrative matter. That does not justify attempting to ridicule a former President who remains one of the most respected political figures in Africa.

Second, it is ironic that those who constantly preach democracy become uncomfortable when people exercise their democratic right to endorse a candidate of their choice. Endorsement is not the same as nomination, and Nigerians are capable of deciding for themselves who is qualified to lead.

Third, reducing Goodluck Jonathan's entire presidency to a "clueless" slogan is intellectually dishonest. Jonathan oversaw one of the most peaceful transfers of power in Nigeria's history when he conceded defeat in 2015, an action that earned him global recognition and helped strengthen Nigeria's democracy.

Finally, a man's legacy is not determined by political insults. Goodluck Jonathan's place in history was secured the day he put the stability of Nigeria above personal ambition. That is a standard many politicians praise, but few have matched.

Political disagreements are normal, but dragging a former President's reputation into partisan battles does not elevate the national conversation. It diminishes it.

I do not understand why some lawyers seem to set aside legal principles once politics becomes involved. As a lawyer, one would expect consistency in interpreting and applying the law, regardless of political affiliation.

In the case of the PDP issue, how can Festus Keyamo focus only on the faction he believes is not recognized by INEC without fully addressing the implications of the Supreme Court judgment? If the argument is based on the law, then the discussion should begin with what the Supreme Court actually decided and which leadership structure or faction the judgment recognized.

Political preferences are one thing, but legal interpretations should be grounded in the facts, the judgment, and the applicable law—not in partisan considerations.

You just ended up writing a tonne of bs.

I was expecting you to provide the legal pronouncements that recognised this Turaki led faction as the authentic PDP.

Why also do you think Makinde dumped them and is running on the APM platform.

This Turaki faction are leftovers from the PDP who got Atiku on the ballot in 2023.

If they are working for anybody, it is Atiku and their goal (as stupid as it is) was to get GEJ to contest so as to sweep SS votes..

But GEJ never told anyone he was contesting and if he did, it won't be brokered by the same shady characters in the PDP who worked against their party in 2015.

So rest .

You need to get a life. Making baseless and attention-seeking comments won’t get you anywhere or earn you respect. Some of you sit online twisting narratives as if that’s a contribution to nation-building. It’s not.

You wrote it as it is.
Also, Jonathan is their nemesis. That name scares out the living daylight out of them.
They know Jonathan is the cat that will put their rats where it belongs.
See both begging and yabbing at the same time.
