Tragedy has once again struck Plateau State as an armed invasion by suspected Fulani terrorist gangs left a trail of death and critical injuries in Gwom-Ajang village, located in the Foron District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.

The late-night assault occurred at approximately 9:30 PM on Sunday, May 31, 2026, in the remote village situated about 15 miles southwest of Jos, the Plateau State capital. According to local sources, the attack specifically targeted a women’s gathering happening in the community.

Initial reports on the casualty count vary slightly between local witnesses and community leadership, placing the death toll between seven and eight people.

Local residents and eyewitnesses reported that the terrorists descended on the village suddenly, opening fire indiscriminately on the gathering. According to witnesses, the attackers spoke the Fulani language and were heard shouting "Allahu’Akbar" as they unleashed violence on the unsuspecting women and bystanders.

An official statement released shortly after the incident by Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM), condemned the bloody raid:

"At least 8 persons have been reportedly killed in another armed invasion perpetrated by terrorist gangs of Fulani at about 9:30pm or thereabout of 31st May, 2026 in Gwon-Ajang village of Foron District, Barkin Ladi LGA," the statement read.

In the immediate aftermath of the gunfire, community members scrambled to assist the survivors. More than ten individuals sustained severe, life-threatening injuries during the attack.

The victims are currently being rushed to nearby medical facilities for urgent clinical attention. The atmosphere in Foron District remains incredibly tense as families await news on the condition of those hospitalized.

This latest incident adds to a troubling pattern of targeted violence in the Barkin Ladi axis, raising fresh anxieties regarding the security of rural communities in central Nigeria. Local leadership and youth groups have repeatedly called for stronger security interventions to safeguard vulnerable populations.

The Berom Youths Moulder-Association has indicated that they are closely monitoring the situation as it unfolds.

"More details would be furnished in due time," Tengwong assured.

No official statement has been released yet by the Plateau State Police Command or the military task force, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), regarding arrests or containment measures.
