damble:USA and Australia have a lot of poor people. Heck, even Rossiya and China got poor people self. USA at one time had 4 million people go to bed hungry. In recent years self. Even all 'money making jobs as immigrats'...it is because of the value of the dollar being higher than the naira, that most Nigerians think that 100 dollars monthly na big money. Meanwhile, living on 1000 dollars montly in America would leave you struggling like a broke Nigerian under the bridge. There are people who live in their cars, sleep on the street, move from house to house, squat in people's houses in both US and Australia. |

Inequality is a global problem. If all the money in the world were shared equally among everybody, in a few years, the money would still return to the hands of a few, while the rest fall into poverty |

njokuuche77:So people can't post and.read news from other parts of the world? What are they trying to achieve when other people in other parts of the world post news about Nigeria and other African countries? Your view is sickening and asinine. Your problem with the post is that it shows that inflation and economic problems is world wide right now and you would rather have some gullible people think that it's only peculiar to Nigeria and this government. |

njokuuche77:lets even play along that the aim and objective of this post his to justify Poverty rate, Germany is 16% rite, yle Nigeria is around 63% can you matchmake that If 16% of Nigerians are poor we wont even feel anything cos it means in every family nd friends unit you will have more comfortable earners that can easily support the poor ones |

WriterNig:I'm not surprised that you're saying this when the nairaland poll above this topic had set the tone. Of all the poll questions they can ask about this statistics it is Russian "cheap" oil that they think of as the cause.....what a bias forum this forum has become or it has always been like this subtly but now more glaring to me....tueh They decide for people who cannot think for themselves like Peter Obi supporters, that's people with low IQ....Oya snatch it and run with it but remember the ukraine war started more than 4 years ago and not only Germany "cut themselves" off Russia gas so why hasn't poverty increased in other European countries but if you remember as well that prior to the Ukraine war Germany was the only one taking Syrian and middle east refugees like their life depended on it when Poland and others rejected them....think for yourself analyse with your brain not emotion and propaganda. |

PigTormentor:There is no need for insults; we can discuss economics rationally. No one is saying inflation isn't global. The point is how different governments handle it. When Germany faces inflation, their citizens argue over whether a €1,446/month threshold is enough, and the state provides unemployment benefits, subsidized transit, and public healthcare. When Nigeria faces inflation, millions drop into absolute food poverty with zero safety nets. Pointing out that a wealthy nation is struggling does not erase the unique severity of our local policy failures. It’s not about keeping people gullible; it’s about demanding proper accountability for how our specific crisis is being managed. |

njokuuche77:All the OP did was post news from other part of the world. Why question his intention? CNN and other news outlets carry news on Nigeria and other countries. Do they have an agenda when they do that or just informing their readers of what's going on around the world. Comparing Nigeria with Germany is a non starter anyway. Nigeria is a poor country especially when Compared with a country like Germany. Nigeria does not have thr luxury of injecting any serious funds to assist her citizens like Germany can. Germany is the richest country in the whole of Europe and one of the richest in the world. Nigeria is poor especially when you take into consideration the population and annually income. Economy is terrible right now all over the world even here in the US. Prices have gone up exponentially. |

PigTormentor:CNN is an international news corporation whose business model is global reporting. A nairalander sharing a specific article on nairaland is usually doing so to make a point or support a narrative. I sabi una wella. When una selectively share news about European inflation right now, it is almost always used as a political shield to imply, if the West is struggling, don't blame our local leaders. So me pointing out, I am not questioning the news, I am analyzing how the news is being weaponized to deflect from local policy failures. |

njokuuche77:Is what he posted factually incorrect ? Nope. You will rather your fellow wailers live under the impression the economic turmoil is only peculiar to Nigeria when it's not. Nigeria is actually doing much better than many countries that your candidate was promoting previously such as Argentina. It's not only CNN that post news and information on Nigeria. Other bloggers do to for their followers. In the internet age, anyone can post news of interest. I know it's ok for you to see news that portray Nigeria in bad light not those that shows that the country is not as bad as you wish others to believe. |

PigTormentor:Nigerian government still has a lot of work to do The poor in germany do have access to a decent enough welfare system, and even housing (not perfect mind, but it is). Nigeria? Your government hasn't built the kind of economy that would try to reduce poverty drastically ..the economy that generates jobs, instead na sharing of money you dey do.,,,and by extension build a decent welfare system that would benefit a lot of the poor. Otherwise, you are right. ...poverty is everywhere. Still doesn't change the fact Nigeria needs to do better, and that as a percentage, more nigerians live in severely abject poverty that would make a german poor guy look like a wealthy investor by contrast...if he was living by naija standards. |
