Today, I am writing not as a member of any political party, not as a supporter of any politician, but simply as a concerned Nigerian who is tired, saddened, and worried about the direction we are heading as a people. The recent kidnapping involving school children and teachers in Oyo State broke my heart. As I followed the discussions online and offline, I expected people to focus on the victims, pray for their safety, sympathize with their families, and demand better security from those in authority. Unfortunately, that was not what I saw. Almost immediately, some people started saying the incident happened because the governor belongs to a particular political party. Others claimed it was the opposition trying to make the President look bad. Some blamed one party while others blamed another. At that point, I asked myself a simple question: Must everything in Nigeria be political? -Children were kidnapped. -Teachers were kidnapped. -Families were thrown into fear and uncertainty. -Parents could not sleep peacefully. -Loved ones were praying and hoping for good news. Yet, instead of focusing on the human tragedy before us, many people were busy scoring political points. This is not how a healthy society behaves. What happened to compassion? What happened to empathy? What happened to our shared humanity? The truth is that insecurity does not recognize political parties. Kidnappers do not care who you voted for. Bandits do not ask whether you support ADC, APC, LP, NDC, NNPP, PDP, or any other party before attacking. When tragedy strikes, everybody suffers. Rich or poor. Christian or Muslim. North or South. Government supporter or opposition supporter. Pain does not discriminate. Another thing that deeply troubles me is that many times we hear reports that ransom has been paid and victims have been released, but we rarely hear about the masterminds being arrested, prosecuted, and punished. As ordinary citizens, we continue to live in fear while criminals seem to operate with increasing boldness. This is not about attacking any government. Every administration at different levels must take responsibility for protecting lives and property because that is one of the primary reasons government exists. However, beyond government, there are important lessons that Nigerians must learn. First, we must stop treating politicians like gods. Most of the politicians we fight over today will shake hands tomorrow and move on with their lives. Meanwhile, ordinary Nigerians remain the ones suffering the consequences of insecurity, unemployment, poor healthcare, and economic hardship. Second, we must learn to value human lives above political loyalty. No political victory is worth celebrating when innocent citizens are living in fear. Third, we must learn to show empathy. Just because a tragedy has not happened to you does not mean it cannot happen tomorrow. The pain you mock today could become your reality tomorrow. Finally, we must hold leaders accountable without turning every issue into a partisan battle. Demanding security is not opposition. Demanding justice is not hatred. Demanding protection for innocent citizens is not politics. It is our right. My appeal to Nigerians is simple: -Let us stop using people's pain, suffering, kidnapping, and death to score cheap political points. -Let us stop worshipping politicians while ignoring the suffering of fellow citizens. -Let us become a people who value humanity before politics. A nation where citizens genuinely care for one another is stronger than a nation where everyone is divided along political lines. May God comfort every family currently experiencing pain. May He protect every innocent Nigerian. And may we never lose our humanity in the pursuit of political arguments. What are your thoughts, Nairalanders?Thank you for reading. Mr. Odewale Adesoye AKA Green Man

Regardless, it is for moments like this we have a commander in chief. If he cannot secure the land, his time in office is over...he should let anyone who will. Your so called prayer request is to be answered by the government, not God. That's why they are elected to provide leadership. |

You people are part of the problem.. prayer hasn't solved the problem and won't solve the issue on ground. These guys are going about with ammunitions, killing and commiting genocide, yet all some of you could think of is prayer.. really? Oh God.. we're in serious trouble in this country. |

What stops the national assembly members from moving a motion to make kidnapping and banditry carry a hefty capital punishment like firing squad and public executions. They should include law mandating the relevant authority to follow up every kidnapping cases in the country to a logical conclusion, every ransom paid, every means through which kidnappers make contact must be traced, the telecom must also take responsibility in ensuring that they willing share GPS coordinates when requested as it relates to where distress calls are made from. In fact any suggestions on how to end this ugly incident once and for all is a welcome development. This is a call to action and not by prayer alone. These calls and suggestions should have dominated a major deliberation on the floor of the plenary as it involve little children for God's sake! instead what the useless members where dwelling on was on decamping frivolities. |

Nigeria should allow USA to colonize the country. How can terrorists kidnap many children and for more than 2 weeks no single move have been made by the government. The highest mass kidnapping happened in USA in the year 1976. And that's less than 30 kids. No one will ever try mass kidnapping again in USA cos it won't last for more than 24 hours. But in Nigeria, hundreds will be kidnapped and no rescue efforts will be activated. DSS can easily track critics but can't track terrorists. |

That's how low we have gone in this country. Fayose and Makinde was even busy accusing each other when it's not that the kidnapped school children have been released Some are making it political even though it might be somehow, some are making it tribal. Find solutions first then we can spat on each other |

The one that think he could do the rescue is demanding for his security network to be approved until then he could try his best , why is it like this in this country.. The Aare of Yoruba with his OPC is saying nothing too.. why will one not assume the kidnapping is politically done .. I am so pained.. |

Free speech especially online means people would say what they want to say... However, what about those who are paid to work like the local, state, and national security/leaders?... They watch the beheading of the teacher and coward away. Now let's debate bloggers and commentators while the children spend their 3rd night in the bush. |

Someone when to the school two weeks after the kidnapping and their school bags was still scattered in the classroom. The beheading video made both politicians and police to stay away out of fear. |

You're still a small boy if you believe it's not politics, Some wise men once said, A city can not fall without a good insider job. When two elephants fight the grass suffers. What is clear now is that Yorubland have no wise elders as early believed. |

This OP is a known APC influencer who has been trying hard to project a fake neutrality. The other day he was admiring Tinubu after he clinched APC ticket with a fake figure meant to prepare the grouund for general rigging figures. |

DSS1335:You want all this in a country where government are pardoning criminals? In some southern state kidnapping is a capital punishment with firing squad while in Northern Nigeria they are holding meetings with government |

Don’t be shocked, the Human heart is desperately evil, the Bible says who can know it. When the Human mind is searching for answers, it can postulate anything. Christians need to rise and disciple more souls and let the World know that Jesus Christ is the only answer to the world crisis today. |

In a way I'm gladened this happened cos it has become an eye opener that no one is insulated from the rubbish going on in Nigeria. See the once very peaceful South West.my very own south west now living in fear. Where would be hit next?? Are we waiting for them to hit lagos before we have sense as a nation? Yet every one is politicking and pushing propaganda up and down. Spiritual leaders are telling us to pray.na wa ooo |

It is only a reflection of who the dealers called leaders are. An ex governor of a constituted state spilling gibberish from his mouth. The state governor who did not see the issue as not only important to attend to but also embarrassing to leave it unattended to, which took him more than 14 days before he could visit all because of political exercise The president that couldn't visit but later sent delegate after 16 days as well. All these are pointers that governance is not part of our own democracy and not in the book of our politicians which is why I will always call them polithievans. |

![]() This is what happens when you pardon kidnappers and bandits.. There should be capital punishment like firing squard or beheading, which shouldn't be more than 2 weeks after judgement, once you do this, alot of them will flee and sanity will be restored back to the country... But we know this might not happen, because, some people will come out to defend them as their brothers. IF YOU JUST HAVE ENOUGH MONEY, JUST MOVE YOUR FSMIKY OUT OF THIS COUNTRY FOR GOOD, EVEN YOUR PET SHOULDN'T BE LEFT BEHINDE |

No matter how you try to spin it, president Tinubu is going to be held accountable for the current insecurity in Nigeria. The president has said on different occasions that decentralizing security responsibilities is the best approach to our current insecurity challenge. He has been a consistent advocate of state and local policing for over 20 years now,and yet he has failed to establish them. The era of a president deploying security agents in response to security challenges and it bringing positive results has long gone over 15 years ago. There is no matter of morale boosting and encouragement of security personnel can end our current insecurity.State and local authorities should have policing that is backed by law and well equiped. When campaign starts in August,I can assure u both Peter obi and Atiku are going to recommend establishment of state and local policing to drastically reduce the current insecurity in the country. As a card carrying member of APC,I feel very sad and embarrassed that a president for 3 years is advocating creation of state and local policing and he can't match his word with legislative actions. The NASS won't pass state and local policing legislation except they are pressured by the president.Nass members fear the governors may become too powerful and as such refused to initiate creation of state and local policing. Fulani militias posing as cattle herders kidnapped a woman in benin city and she was killed despite paying #11m ransom demanded by her captors. The president needs to sit up or will face massive revolt in 2027 and Nigeria will move on without him as president. |
