Lagos Arrests 45 Beggars Including Nine Children by dododawa1(op): 10:06pm On Jun 03
The Lagos State Government has apprehended 45 beggars, including adults and minors, during separate enforcement operations conducted in Oshodi, Agege, and CMS areas of the state.

The Commissioner for the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement posted on his X handle on Wednesday.

According to him, 22 beggars were arrested in Oshodi and Agege, comprising adults and a few teenagers.

He added that 14 adults and nine children were also apprehended at CMS during the exercise.

Earlier today, in a separate enforcement operation, our team apprehended 22 beggars at Oshodi and Agege, comprising adults and a few teenagers.

“Additionally, 14 adults and 9 children were apprehended at CMS,” Wahab stated.

Wahab also said clearance operations were ongoing in other parts of the state, including Admiralty Way in Lekki and Addo Road in Ajah.

PUNCH Online reported on May 25 that Lagos State Government intensified its environmental enforcement, making 10,634 arrests across the state over a single year.

According to Wahab, 5,715 persons were arrested for illegal highway crossing, while 3,886 others were apprehended for offences including street trading, environmental pollution, and cart pushing.

He added that 102 persons were arrested for open defecation, while another 931 individuals were apprehended for waste management-related offences across the state.

This is a result of people giving birth without any plans of catering for the kids. Later, they will become a nightmare in the society.

I don't know why northern leaders don't see this as a problem. How can a people be too scared of losing elections that they refuse to do the right thing?

When El Rufai was governor, beggars in Kaduna had an association (they still do) and association leaders threatened to kick him out of power. No sane society allows this level of madness.

Mod don't delete my topic, you all keep encouraging madness, those beggars acts as informants to terrorists, flush them out.
You marry wives and kids you can't take care of just because you are adhering to an instruction from years ago because you want to populate the earth and claim fastest growing religion. It's doesn't make sense na, birth what you can take care of.
It's about time people stop giving those beggars money, if you give them money, you are encouraging them to continue, once they no see money, nobody go advice them to work

Agege alone will fill two trailers, loool...

Commissioner of environment should look into those boys that have started using the railway as their abode at Oshodi... While climbing the pedestrian bridge to cross from Lagos-Abeokuta expressway to the Apapa-Oworonshoki expressway, you'll see them along the rail line

But when Peter Obi bundled them in a truck and sent them back to the north, APC guys said he was negative biased towards the northerners in Anambra State.

Not touts per say, all the governor needs to do is give the directive through NURTW leadership in Lagos... Let them know that any busstop where beggars are found, the chairman of NURTW in that ward will be fired, you'll see it stop ASAP

Same applies to dirty busstops and traffic caused by buses loading at busstops, just give a directive that any busstop causing traffic, all the NURTY ward chairmen around there will be fired, you'll see the holdups clear immediately

What a sensible government should do. One irresponsible one is distributing plates to them in Kano to enhance their begging...

Okay. While I applaud this move, the LS government should also provide a means of rehabilitation, sensitisation and empowerment for these beggars, so that they don’t go into something worse-off in the nearest future .

Begging is actually more lucrative than your regular job or trade for the unskilled in the informal Market.

There was this day I wanted to return my child to s boarding school at Ikorodu and I decided I don't want to drive and we both settled for a BRT Bus ride. At the Bus Terminal, we saw a man with an open wound to his leg begging for assistance.

As it was with Lagosians, people dropped money here and there. On my return journey late in the vening I saw this man, (perhaps his closing time) sorting the day's proceeds by denominations and believe me, I saw nothing less than 35-40 #1,000 notes, about 50 #500 notes and countless #200 notes!

Please tell me what job pay as much as that daily? And all the man need do is to change location daily. This happened at Costain Bus stop about 7-8 years ago.

You don't mean it that they give them begging plates in the North as a constituent development empowerment.....I have seen only wheelbarrows, cutlasses, and Okada mostly but begging food plates amazes me....
