Some people had sworn that the whole of South South is in the bag already for Tinubu. Massive shock awaits all of you.

A media aide to Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has resigned his appointment as special assistant on new media, amid indications that he may be aligning with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The aide, Patrick Spiff, announced his resignation in a letter dated 29 May and addressed to the governor. The Office of the Secretary received the letter from the State Government on 1 June.

“I am writing to formally resign my position as special assistant to the Governor of Bayelsa State on New Media.

“I appreciate the opportunities, experience and support I have received during my time with the (state) government. It has contributed greatly to my professional growth, and I am grateful for the knowledge and skills I have gained,” he wrote.

Although Mr Spiff offered no explanation for his departure, his recent social media activities suggest he may have resigned to focus on the NDC.

A review of his Facebook page shows that he openly promoted the NDC while still serving in Mr Diri’s administration.

His profile picture shows him wearing an NDC-branded T-shirt, while several posts predicted the party’s electoral victories in Bayelsa.

On 26 May, he wrote: “There is nothing those in Creek Haven can do. NDC will produce the next governor of Bayelsa State.

The reference to “Creek Haven” is widely understood to be the Bayelsa governor’s official residence.

In another post, he declared: “There are no two ways about it. NDC will win the Senate and the Reps in the West. NDC will win the Senate and the Reps in Central.

NDC will win the Senate in the East. It will be a walkover in favour of NDC.”

Earlier, on 14 May, he wrote: “To play opposition politics is too sweet. Everything is flowing well.

“Nobody can cage you. If you feel like I’m lying, just join NDC and confirm it.

The posts have fuelled speculation that Mr Spiff had distanced himself politically from the governor’s camp long before formally resigning.

Political realignment

Mr Spiff’s resignation comes amid shifting political loyalties in Bayelsa. The state, long regarded as a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stronghold, witnessed a major political shake-up after Governor Diri defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) last year.

His predecessor and long-time ally, and Bayelsa West Senator Seriake Dickson, declined to join the APC. Instead, he founded the NDC, positioning it as an alternative political platform.

The party has gained increased attention following the decision of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to join its ranks and secure the presidential ticket of the party ahead of the 2027 election.

Although Mr Spiff has not linked his resignation to partisan politics, but his public endorsement of the NDC while serving in government has intensified speculation about his future political plans.

I wrote in my comment that there will be a surprise in 2027 that the parties have not planned for. INEC will be the referee but the people will be the VAR. The Morocco vs Senegal referee already saw a sample of where Refs can be checked. The situation room of everyone will make it difficult for anyone to tamper with results. What APC did in 2023 was the Expo they gave the people.

someone then said this👇

Yemimovich:
APC did nothing in 2023.
It's abnormal to have this your mentality poured online to pose as common sense, where as it's a big disgrace to have your type submitting a mirage for reality. Wake up to real life. You just made fool out of yourself.
And I replied 👇

Oh yeah?....
My comment should not upset you this much. We all know why Wike is rewarded and protected by his master. He did a good clean job wink that's why Fubara must take note. Grabbing it, snatching it and running away with it is not a gentleman's game. Agbero de learn work for where their oga de

It's such a pity Fela is alive no more. He would have released an appropriate track for this government magic grin

Obi may have not won the 2023 election but he definitely was not the third. That is very clear. The attention he is given is very obvious that his votes were suppressed. Never have Nigerian politicians faced one partyless marauder who doesn't have structure or governors or senators if there's nothing he's not capable of. The 2023 Elections definitely shocked them and that's why without anyone asking, they keep mentioning Obi Obi Obi as if he was the only one who contested the election. They didn't even worry about Atiku who 'came second'. If it was another politician, they would have fought for the results. APC is only lucky that Obi warned people not to protest and wait. So that call was what made people accept the results without protesting. Buhari did not win but he made his numbers in the North look like he won. Atiku likely won 2019 but he also went to court instead of fighting for his results with them. Wike talks a lot and he has inadvertently told us how they wrote results but the people are just waiting patiently for them even though they know they will want to use thugs and violence. We've been here before. Obasanjo was worse than this, he said do or die.

Don't mind that irritant. When it's time for election, he will remember Southern unity. But when it is time for appointments, he will remember that yoruba lokan.

He should make do with only Yoruba votes.

An ordinary media aide resigned and you turned it to electoral victory for NDC, wetin you people deh drink? Not a commissioner resign, not a political heavyweight in Bayelsa but a media aide. What if a commissioner resigns, na to deh carry bell around the market and be dancing. You people are on a long thing. APC may have failed but the structure is still there, they have their own party supporters who will come out on election days to vote for their party, do not ever think that it is 100% of Nigerians that are rooting for APC to be dislodged from power, you have a lot of work to do.

Meanwhile, in Akwa Ibom, the government is sacking aides for daring to speak out against Tinubu. The much touted support for Tinubu in the Southsouth is a mirage. None of the governors will be able to deliver their state to him, even if they manage to win their own re-election.
