This contraption of a country called Nigeria. Why is electricity considered luxury when it should be basic. Every Nigerian deserves to have equal electricity supply.
How did we even get here?
Well, when our government started setting the price of power below what it cost to produce it.

The information is real. I received email from IBEDC on my two prepaid. I got tokens and I have loaded it. it has nothing to do with Tinubu Government.

What exactly is this classism and elitism called Band A ?

Mind you , I'm on Band A and to be fair, I enjoy at least 16 hours daily ( 4 hour shorter than expected) but why impose it on citizens?

So many folks on Band A cant afford it and you see darkness in some homes due to inability to afford the cost

Why not place everybody on what they can afford?

Abi wetin be this sef?

And this whole shenighan stated with Tinubu ( even dumb Buhari didnt force band A on us)

What happens to those of us on Band B that have been suffering too?

Band A, about 2 streets away from us always have power supply, we are on Band B and I've not had power for almost 2 days now, not that it was even regular before then o. If you cumulatively add up the number of hours that I've had power supply this year, it won't be up to a month.

Judging by this power supply alone, how can someone tell me to vote for the current president and I will ever in any minute faith accept to vote for him undecided undecided undecided its so so annoying!!!
Being on a band besides A means you are enjoying government subsidy on power

We were forced to be in Band A, without much advantage. We hardly get 17 hours average in a month, yet we are paying premium. Tinubu has said we should not vote him, if we don't have constant electricity. grin grin grin grin grin grin grin
Did u vote for him in the 2023 general election?
Re: Electricity: NERC Approves Special Compensation For Band A Customers by Reference(m): 11:51am On Jun 04
I will hazard a suggestion to the NERC for a slight restructuring in the way electricity is metered and tariffs collected.

Can it compel DISCO's to lease out sectors covered by feeders to agents to collect dues.

Just as my strong advocacy for policing at the grassroots level due to knowledge, depth and detail, electricity distributors are better off monitoring electricity consumption through the thousands of feeders rather than the millions of individual meters owned by consumers.

A couple of years ago the DISCO installed a meter at the feeder supplying the estate where I live and after months of investigation realized a number of reside TA were stealing electricity. This lead to a months long painstaking and in my opinion resource draining house to house check that caught some culprits.

But from then on the estate management was out on notice that further theft will result in a total supply disruption. Today it is he estate management that is on its toes to going from house to house on an impromptu but regular basis and I understand theft is down many folds.

DISCOS will certainly afford the technology and logistics to better mo it or feeders alone so why not just meter them and then appoint agents to collect the dues. Where collection doesn't add up to consumption then it is easier to investigate and appropriate sanctions meted out.

My two cents.

I think the policy was simply to take from the 'rich' to 'subsidize' the poor o owing that people of economic class tended to band (no pun intended) together as per house values/prices.

And the idea is somewhat credible in that richer people tend to consume more, much more than poorer folks despite prices. So if rich man A consumes a kilowatt and pays say a hundred naira, the income will make up for poor man z who consumes a quarter of a kilowatt and pays say twenty naira.

However the problem with all this is law, justice and simple demographics.

The law is constantly cast aside even by those who make them. So the rich man will avoid paying and get away with it because he is above the law.

The delineation of territories under bands has been extraordinarily unjust with a lot of folks on modest m and cast into expensive bands.

And the very fact that Nigeria has an overwhelming umber of poor folks and just very few folks who can truly afford the tariffs so the whole scheme is collapsed. DISCOS are not getting much out of it and the people are more or less bankrupt.

Infact if you see a posh house with solar panels, that person is a rich one who is on either band B or lower.

The post is about band A electricity supply. Google what band A electricity means. Band users were promised at least 18 hours daily power supply. From February to March that promise was failed. Hence the compensation. So I fail to see how bandit come into this.

Sometimes you have no choice but to be on band A. If you live in an estate or apartment that has moved their power supply to band A, you have no choice but to comply and pay the very high rate that comes with it. I am personally fine with Band A, as long as they provide electricity for the stated amount of hours that comes with it.

Unfortunately the country will continue to lag behind in development if it cannot resolve this electricity problem. There is not advanced country in the world that does not have 24/7 electricity. Electricity drives innovation and advancement. Nigeria has a long way to go!

Well, advanced countries do something we do not. Everyone pays the kind of tarrif or bill that enables their power sector to provide good supply.

Somehow saying this in Nigeria means you are supporting your oppressors. Meanwhile many Nigerians won't accept it if in their business, only 20% of their customers are paying the full price needed to provide full service from them. The fact that 80% of Nigerians are not paying or underpaying them is going to impact profit to the point that they won't be able to provide full service to the 20% that do pay.

And we privatised the sector since 2013, yet government is setting prices for them at rates that do not let the power companies make money, and we expect miracles
