LalaGreen247:Who are these "people", and what are these "goods" bought from Europe? Who are these goods "sold to"? I know people import Shuttle bus(Korope) a lot from japan.Yes, a major export from what I know and those involved. One even remarked how he is surprised others are still making money from it even though he did the same business many years ago. But are there steps/measures Japan are taking to compete with China's volume of production?- Market aggressively like the Koreans have done. I say the Koreans because they have to surpass the Koreans before the Chinese. - Enter new markets and diversify across the value chain and product lines. - Work longer hours to surpass Chinese working hours - If you don't want immigrants, then automate every aspect that can be automated. In the early 2000s, Japan was famous for advanced robotics, but now China has more industrial robots installed than Japan, Germany and South Korea combined. - Be open to change and act quickly. The Japanese are methodical in what and how they do things, but are annoyingly slow to respond to rapid changes. Many westerners say it is subsidies from the Chinese govt to its companies, but hey, every country subsidises its industrial powers, including African nations. What they omit or refuse to accept is that the Chinese work thrice as hard, market aggressively, focus on more mass market products for every day people, are open to change, work with locals on ground in different countries, are ready to work in Sokoto if need be to secure materials and would be in far-flung places to market goods, open up to outsiders especially from the developing world to come buy and sell goods, have different categories of goods for different income classess etc. Anyway, I don't see Japan surpassing the Chinese anytime soon. Honda CEO has stated they cannot compete with what he saw in China. Mitsubishi's CEO accused Chinese automakers in Southeast Asia of "doing too much". Toyota has changed CEO twice in order to compete. Nissan and other European and American automakers have succumbed to working with the Chinese to produce cars because of the ingenuity of the Chinese. That is in autos o. The other aspect? Japan has to first defeat Korea before trying to surpass the Chinese. |

GloriousGbola:Those Japanese goods were mostly sold to the middle and upper class in various countries. With inflation hitting every country, the Chinese have made such goods to be available to all and sundry. Without the Chinese, many African would not be able to use new Android powered devices. With the Chinese, many families in Southeast Asia, South America and now Africa can afford to buy newer cars. See below: Sony has sold its TV business to its Chinese competitor. https://archive.md/Oo7Et; https://www.reddit.com/r/hardware/comments/1qiaqdu/sony_is_selling_its_home_entertainment_business/ If not for the partnership with TESLA, Panasonic would have ceased to exist and be sold off just as its counterpart TOSHIBA. Sony is now a music and entertainment company, not tech as it used to be. As a people, they became lackadaisical and signed their death warrant in the name of Plaza Accords, something the Chinese have refused to do, thankfully. |

blackbriar:You meant to ask "why DON'T"? Maybe because APU is a private university that is popular with international students, so full payment is necessary, unlike national universities whose tuition policies cater to both Japanese and foreigners (although some are changing). |

Digbick:The external scholarship, was it listed/offered by the school or a different organisation? It is doable, provided you work in a warehouse and max the hours. Or find a tech role that pays higher wages per hour. Since it is Beppu, befriend Vietnamese to get jobs and the high paying ones sef. Lastly, search for scholarships on this page (this is for the 2026/2027 academic session): https://www.studyinjapan.go.jp/en/assets/pdf/scholarship_pamphlet_en.pdf;https://www.studyinjapan.go.jp/en/planning/scholarships/ Look at the eligibility, deadline and T&Cs. I did the same and got two scholarships during my time. With the one from the school, I had three altogether. |

Gerrard59:I just wish the Chinese would up their front end game. It may be deliberate but chinese products have poor support and documentation. Say I am working on a station design and I want to be 101% sure I have gotten the pump information correct. You will find all the information on the pump online - if it is a western product. But if it is a Chinese product, especially one sold in the third world, all you will see is a jpeg on a sales page. That is where it ends. You are literally learning about the product in real time and that is fked. |

LalaGreen247:Such a business thrives here as well. I am told there are buyers in Nigeria who prefer or insist on Japanese industrial goods. But for a newer one, I think many head to China, especially as Chinese ones can come with financing. |

Pagejnr:Send an email to the school showing that you got denied the visa. A refund should be effected within two weeks of validating your request. But I have a question about the visa denial. Did you have with you the COE at the time of applying for a visa? |
