WAEC Candidates Sit For Practical In Darkness In Oyo State (Video) by Prestar(op): 11:21pm On Jun 04
A disturbing scene has emerged where candidates sitting for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination were sitting for their Agricultural Science practical examination late at night without electricity, using lanterns and mobile phone flashlights.

A video obtained by our correspondent showed candidates writing the examination in darkness, with some using alternative sources of light to complete their papers.

The development has sparked concerns among parents over the conduct of the examination and the safety of candidates.

Reacting to the incident, a cleric, Pastor S.O. Solarin, criticised the late delivery of examination materials to centres, warning that prolonged delays could expose students to security risks.

Speaking in a video posted on his Facebook page, Solarin said reports indicated that some candidates had to wait for several hours before receiving their examination papers, forcing them to remain at examination centres far beyond the scheduled time.

He described the situation as disturbing, particularly amid the country’s security challenges, including cases of kidnappings and attacks in some communities.

“It has come to our hearing that some of our students writing WAEC only received their examination papers now. Given the security situation in the country, WAEC officials need to explain why students are being kept at examination centres so late in the day,” he said.

Solarin called on the West African Examinations Council to explain the delays to parents, schools and affected communities.

That state needs two or three governors. It's too big for one person.

Abia state government that's controlling power in his state, is he not a governor?

You as an individual have the power to invest in the power sector and generate electricity..... It has gone beyond the government to provide power....

Stop defending visionless governors who do not know what they truly want....

Is Makinde in charge of WAEC? You are a disgrace to your WAEC result and entire education. WAEC is an independent body that spans across West Africa.

Why blame the governor? Is it the governor that organises WAEC exam?

Judging from the population of students writing the exam, I don't think it's a public school (I expect public schools to have more population than that).

Couldn't the school have made provision for lighting? One of the first voices there said, "Lai se'pe a o sanwo WAEC" (when it's not that we didn't pay for WAEC), meaning they paid for the exam, because I believe public education is free in Oyo state, so why couldn't the school make provision?

Looking at it from another angle, there was actually light in the hall, just that it wasn't sufficient for the exam's purpose... So as much as we blame the school for poor lighting or not making arrangements when they saw the exam will hold at night, we can also excuse them on the basis that they didn't expect the exam to hold by that time... That takes us to WAEC officials

Most of these cases arise because of delay in arrival by WAEC officials... Mathematics exam that held day before yesterday was supposed to start by 9:30, but as at 12, some centres in Lagos had not started because officials had not arrived. If this happened in Lagos, who knows how other states will be

If all these are happening for other subjects, I wonder how it'll be on the day for English exam

WAEC officials should learn to arrive on time. If WAEC doesn't have enough supervisors, they should learn to employ more, atleast it's just for the duration of the exam

Did they tell you the place is a boarding school? When did we start to write exam in the night?
Is Makinde minister of power? Why don't you address the substance of the issue and do away with partisan politics?

WAEC is an independent examination body across West Africa, this has nothing to do with the governor of Oyo State. Just like FIFA can send representatives to inspect a facility to know if it is fit for their competition, WAEC also has that right to inspect all school that would be used to write its examination.
Re: WAEC Candidates Sit For Practical In Darkness In Oyo State (Video) by GloriousGbola: 6:54am On Jun 05
The implication of this is that Oyo public secondary schools, which are largely state funded have no provision whatsoever for backup power supply

It is an indictment of all of them. there are at most 60 or maybe 90 ss3 students in the school.

What would it take to rent a small I pass my neighbour to run light in the classroom where the students took the exam?

Students are not even supposed to have phones in the first place. So what happens to the students with no phones?

If it is a state school, then this one is ultimately on makinde. There have been delays in waec exams. This is simple contingency planning.

It is difficult to believe that the school has no generator for day to day operations. This is incompetence or callousness or both from the school management

Bro it would be grossly unfair to heap blame on people who are also suffering the multi layered ineptitude of government that has spanned for over 50 years.

If you want to blame someone, you have to backtrack to several governments ago.
