Please, make your suggestion also. An authorised person may be reading this too and your contributions will help For me 1. Establish a Comprehensive Resident Identity System The Each State Government should develop a comprehensive resident identity and address verification system to improve security, planning, and service delivery. Every resident should be encouraged to register through a centralized database linked to verified residential addresses. This system will assist law enforcement agencies in identifying criminal elements, tracking suspicious activities, and improving emergency response capabilities while respecting constitutional rights and privacy protections. 2. Registration and Regulation of Herders All herders operating within Each State should be required to register with the State Government and the relevant Local Government Authorities before engaging in grazing or livestock activities. Registration should include biometric identification, location of operation, livestock records, and compliance with state regulations. This measure will promote accountability, reduce farmer-herder conflicts, and help security agencies identify unauthorized or suspicious activities. 3. Monitoring and Prevention of Violent Extremism The government should strengthen collaboration between security agencies, community leaders, and religious organizations to identify and prevent violent extremism. Authorities should monitor and investigate individuals or organizations suspected of supporting terrorism, radicalization, or violent activities, regardless of religious affiliation. Any person found to be promoting or financing terrorism should face prosecution in accordance with Nigerian law. 4. Promote Agricultural Self-Sufficiency Each Southwest State should invest heavily in agriculture to enhance food security and create employment opportunities. Government support should include access to improved seedlings, mechanized farming, irrigation systems, agricultural training, storage facilities, and access to markets. Increased agricultural productivity will reduce economic vulnerabilities and strengthen rural communities. 5. Develop a Community and Neighbourhood Intelligence Network A structured neighbourhood intelligence network should be established across communities in each state State. Residents, community leaders, traditional institutions, and security agencies should work together to identify emerging security threats and share relevant information. Such a system should operate within legal frameworks and emphasize the protection of citizens' rights. 6. Eliminate Illegal Settlements in Deep Forest Areas The government should conduct a comprehensive survey of forest reserves and remote settlements. Unauthorized settlements established in deep forests, particularly those linked to criminal activities, should be dismantled through lawful procedures. Forest reserves should be regularly monitored and patrolled to prevent their use as safe havens for kidnappers, bandits, terrorists, and other criminal groups. 7. Swift Prosecution of Serious Crimes The State Government should strengthen collaboration with the judiciary and security agencies to ensure the swift investigation and prosecution of kidnapping, terrorism, banditry, illegal arms trafficking, and organized crime. Fast-track procedures should be considered for cases involving serious threats to public safety while ensuring due process and fair trials. 8. Establish Formal Reporting Channels for Suspicious Activities Multiple reporting channels should be created to enable citizens to report suspicious activities safely and confidentially. These channels may include dedicated hotlines, mobile applications, community liaison officers, and local security committees. Public awareness campaigns should educate citizens on how and when to report security concerns. 9. Promote Civic Education and Constitutional Values Schools across each State should strengthen civic education programs that teach constitutional rights, responsibilities of citizenship, peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and respect for the rule of law. Young people should be equipped with the knowledge and values necessary to contribute positively to society and resist extremist influences. 10. Prosecute Incitement to Violence The government should adopt a zero-tolerance approach toward incitement to violence, hatred, terrorism, or public disorder. Individuals who promote violence through public speeches, religious gatherings, traditional institutions, political platforms, social media, or any other means should be investigated and prosecuted according to the law, regardless of their status or background. 11. Expand Vocational and Technical Education Each State should significantly expand vocational and technical education opportunities to equip young people with practical skills for employment and entrepreneurship. Training programs should focus on modern agriculture, information technology, construction, renewable energy, manufacturing, and other high-demand sectors. Empowering youth economically will reduce vulnerability to recruitment by criminal organizations and extremist groups. Write your suggestions in the comment section below: |

Well equipped state police with drones and solid on the ground intelligence gathering. Provide phone numbers for locals to call if they observe anything unusual. Use more technology and stop open grazing altogether. Terrorists are not redeemable, they are the lowest of the lowest and they should be eliminated as soon as they are caught. |

Some good suggestions egbon AY. I particularly like suggesttion 7 I.e "Swift Prosecution of Serious Crimes". Nigeria has become soft on serious crime and I think it is because the most serious and heinous of crime, murderous terrorism and banditry, has an ethnic dimension because it is mainly the preserseve of the Fulanis. We are all watching, with some Southerners even working for Atiku, when we should all be united telling Northerners to take responsibility for the serious problems they are causing for our nation or we leave. They have no business seeking power since we know, at all levels, taking in leaders and followers, they are in bed with terror and banditry. We don't see their effort to tame terrorism and banditry as we saw SW Governors and legislators valiantly fight insecurity with Amotekun. Southerners must insist on this aspect of the fight against terror i.e taking the North to task. Northerners will continue to misbehave believing there is no consequences at all with there menace threatening to derail the nation that belongs to all of us. The main crux of fighting insecurity is smart tech, DNA and biometric capacity taking in facial recognition once face of marauders are identified. This is how the USA can remotely assassinate their enemies in different continents. That component is expensive though and must be adopted gradually and incrementally. Additionally, I will add that dwellers of rural areas, especially the young and agile, receive self-defence and weapon training from security experts so that isolated communities are not entirely powerless against these demonic marauders. What I feel can be directly productive is for Government to attach liaison security officers to every LGA. It is possible ,as we have 774 LGAs in the entire Nigeria, to train Nigerians to defend themselves and use simple tools like heightened surveillance and communication to quickly galvanise action against marauders. Money is key against insecurity because it is expensive to fight it due to what we have failed to do for decades to adequately upgrade our policing and crime-fighting. Government must seek to directly train Nigerians to be their own first respondents and gaurdians against insecurity. |

Thank you for your contribution. Summary of Your Recommendations 1. Swift prosecution and severe punishment for kidnapping, terrorism, banditry, and other serious crimes. 2. Greater accountability from political and community leaders in regions most affected by insecurity. 3. Expansion of smart security technologies such as biometrics, facial recognition, DNA databases, surveillance systems, and intelligence gathering. 4. Gradual investment in advanced crime-fighting technology despite the high cost. 5. Security and self-defence training for residents of vulnerable rural communities. 6. Deployment of dedicated security liaison officers to every Local Government Area. 7. Community-based surveillance and rapid communication networks to improve response times. 8. Increased funding for policing, intelligence, and security infrastructure. 9. Training citizens to serve as effective first responders and partners in community security. 10. Long-term modernization of Nigeria's policing and crime-fighting capabilities. I particularly agree with the emphasis on technology, intelligence gathering, community vigilance, and the swift prosecution of violent criminals. Modern security challenges require a combination of strong law enforcement, advanced technology, local intelligence networks, and active community participation. The idea of assigning security liaison officers to each LGA is also worth considering, as it could improve coordination between local communities and security agencies. Likewise, strengthening rural security and emergency communication systems could help vulnerable communities respond more effectively to threats while awaiting security intervention. Ultimately, security should be approached as a national responsibility. Criminals, terrorists, kidnappers, and bandits should be identified, arrested, prosecuted, and punished based on their actions, while governments at all levels invest in the technology, manpower, intelligence, and community partnerships needed to keep citizens safe. Thank you once again for sharing these thoughtful recommendations. WizardOfNG: |

UncleAyo:Good thread Sir. Solutions provision is the responsibility of everyone of us. We can and must lobby Government to do more if only we understand leaders are our servants and not the other way round. We have so many serious problems in Nigeria yet Nigerians remain very poor at taking leaders to task and presenting specific solutions they want as you have done here. Let's be factually honest, how many are those causing 230 million people insecurity, death and mayhem? USA pegged the number at 30,000. I believe that to be Conservative and feel the figure is likely closer to 400,000 if we are talking direct combatants (terrorists and bandits) plus their sponsors and assistants/co-conspirators at local level. We have to all think about how to secure Nigeria. As PBAT said, security is not the responsibility of one man alone i.e the President. |

None of these will work, the only solution is to call everyone to roundtable to discuss our coexistence. |

The solution is to go after those islamic radicals in Yorubaland calling for Sharia law.. I saw a video of one imam in Oyo State that said there won't be peace if they demand for Sharia and they don't get it.. Sincerely, I expected the State Securoty to have arrested all those people because definitely they are the "inside rats" feeding the external rats to come and wreck havoc on South West and be kidnapping our people especially children. The failure of our Yorubas leaders to unite our people and promote Yoruba culture over the years is what we are facing now. Yorubas have been divided, some are Igbo spies, some Fulani spies, some are sheepies who can't act without their pastor's approval. Yorubaland is in great danger as we speak. The President should seek international help, let the Isrealis, Russians etc. come in to clear these vermins for good.. They kill our soldiers without mercy, yet some people in government are busy doing rehabilitation for same terrorists when they are caught. Police can track activists but can't track bandits posting tittok videos, Nigerians need to start asking questions o.. it means our network providers too are complicit if they can't monitor phone calls, track locations to support national security. Sincerely speaking, I don't see any future for this country.. the North wants to be like Afghanistan while Southerners have totally different ideology. For how long are we going to keep deceiving ourselves?. |

Summary of Your Recommendations 1. Investigate and take legal action against individuals who publicly promote violence, threaten public order, or advocate extremist agendas. 2. Increase intelligence gathering and monitoring of suspected extremist networks operating within Southwest Nigeria. 3. Strengthen internal security by identifying and disrupting local collaborators who may be aiding criminal or terrorist groups. 4. Promote Yoruba cultural values, identity, and social cohesion to strengthen community resilience against extremism and external influence. 5. Encourage greater unity among Yoruba people and reduce political, ethnic, and religious divisions within the region. 6. Seek international security cooperation, training, intelligence sharing, and technical assistance from countries with strong counterterrorism experience. 7. End policies perceived as being too lenient toward convicted terrorists and violent criminals, while ensuring due process under the law. 8. Improve the capacity of security agencies to track criminal communications, online activities, and the movement of bandits and kidnappers. 9. Strengthen cooperation between telecommunications providers and security agencies in accordance with Nigerian law and privacy safeguards. 10. Encourage more public scrutiny and accountability regarding government efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping. Core Message The central theme of your comment is that Southwest Nigeria should take a firmer approach toward extremism, strengthen intelligence and security operations, promote regional unity and cultural identity, improve the use of technology in fighting crime, and seek stronger domestic and international cooperation against terrorism and banditry. Thanks for your contribion flokii flokii: |
