Flangelo12:It's not just the body...you need people to make the tiny components in cars, like the side mirrors, windows, wipers, spark plugs, engine components, bolt nuts for tires, tire rims, etc etc....other wise na massive importation one go do...and the car would be costing 30 million or more naira Even Innoson that 'tries' to make most of the components locally, the ones he has to import push up the cost of his cars. For that you need small and medium scale factories to make all those stuff. Even the plastics, you need a plant that would fabricate what you need...and that won't be located near the refinery. E no easy like that. |

BangaRice:Power aside, all those asian cars are backed up by smaller companies that make their components for the cars... That one, Nigeria no get. |
| Re: Dangote Moves To Revive Nigeria's Forgotten Auto Industry by Flangelo12: 4:28pm On Jun 05 |
nairalanda1:I'm not disputing the issue of imports and how they drive up costs. I'm saying we have the raw materials for at least 20% of its components. This is for those who are forward looking. |

fasho01:You are not "allowing" him. He is powerfully doing what he does despite your disallowances, which just shows how competent and powerful and capable he is! And if you don't want him to monopolise the industries he is building, go and to be building your own please. |

Can Dangote just concentrate on making fuel cheaper for Nigerians? This guy's quest for absolute monopoly is one of Nigeria's problems |

thedio:You don’t know what you are talking about. First of all my statement was based on how Peugeot is doing around the world relative to how it fared when the 504 and 505 were sold in the 80/90s. Secondly even though my statement was not based on Peugeot’s market share in Nigeria, it is relevant because the subject is the return of Peugeot to Nigeria. Nigerians buy 3 types of cars, none of which Peugeot has a competitive offering. Reliable cars, SUVs and utility vehicles like hilux. The pickup market for which Peugeot 404 made Peugeot popular has been taken over by the hilux. Good luck trying to wrestle market share from the indestructible hilux. The 504/505 market which made Peugeot popular in Africa has been taken over by Toyota, with hyuandai and Kia as supporting acts. In the last 4 decades that Peugeot has been struggling to get its act together, people have moved towards suvs. Peugeot does not have a compelling SUV that can compete with what is in the market. Do you even know the name of Peugeot’s SUV, have you ever seen one? The markets where Peugeot still have a market share are largely Latin American countries and the cars that sell are small cars…Corolla and Yaris equivalent. Good luck to Peugeot trying to compete with the Corolla in Nigeria. Peugeot does not have ANY outstanding or compelling model full stop! Since they scraped the 505, the replacements have not been able to compete. That’s the story of the gradual decline of Peugeot. Their higher end models (604/605) never sold well, they were never able to replace their bread and butter 504/505 with a competitive model and they lost the pick up market. They have nothing compelling to offer. Dangote would be advised to team up with a good Chinese brand because the reality is western car brands are themselves struggling to compete with the Chinese and are facing a certain extinction. Forget Peugeot. Ko le work! Oh by the way do you knowPeugeot currently assembles cars in Nigeria and has been for some years? How many do you see on the roads? Why aren’t people buying them? Exactly! The point here is that yes Peugeot left Bigeria because we had problems but Peugeot itself has been having problems with its model line up all this while. It’s not like the Toyotas, hyuandai & kias you see o. The roads are locally assembled. There is a reason people have not been importing Peugeots which you would have thought they would considering they were so popular and respected in Nigeria. |

Dangote is a monopolist and greedy man ,he can never do anything to benefit Nigerians.Anything he delves into will be out of teach to Nigerians.Cement and noodles used to be everybody's thing, until he came on board and scatter the market.Right now,an average Nigerian can not afford spaghetti, because of who? Dangote! |

nairalanda1:...but you always support removal of subsidy while china alone has pushed $400bn towards computer chip manufacture. |
| Re: Dangote Moves To Revive Nigeria's Forgotten Auto Industry by nairalanda1(m): 2:03pm On Jun 07 |
BangaRice:How does China being an industrial nation correlate with Nigeria removing subsidy? Infact, the reason why China is an industrial nation is because it does something that tinubu does not do, or obi does not want to do, or any of our past leaders even...run a diversifed industrial economy Plus if you got your subsidy back, na 20 billion naira you go pay at least per annum out of 40 billion naira that is your budget. Guess how government would replace the money...loans. And guess what the loans leave behind, debt. I do not support this government at all, but I have supported subsidy removal since 2011, and i did not support the government then There is a reason why subsidy had to go. It was either that, or our country would have run out of money. If you cannot see that, sorry. And if you want to believe I support tinubu, a man who is corrupt, and who is killing our electricity sector with subsides, and who left lagos worse than he met it, then you really need to check the quality of schools you went to. |
