Nigeria Premier Football League side Rivers United were on Thursday involved in a road accident.

The incident occurred while the team was travelling to Awka, Anambra State, for their President’s Federation Cup Round of 16 clash against Nasarawa United.

The club confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the accident occurred along the Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road on the outskirts of Port Harcourt shortly after the team departed from camp.

According to the statement, some players and officials sustained minor injuries, while no fatalities or life-threatening injuries were recorded.

Rivers United said all affected individuals were receiving medical attention and were in stable condition.

"The safety, health and well-being of our players and officials remain our utmost priority. We can confirm that some players and officials sustained minor injuries in the accident. Thankfully, there have been no fatalities or life-threatening injuries reported,” the club stated.

Recall that the Port Harcourt-based club secured a place in the Round of 16 on Monday after defeating Rangers International 3-2 and are scheduled to face Nasarawa United in Awka on Saturday.

This is Federation Cup both of them are meeting on a neutral ground which Awka ...Rivers United and Nasarawa United travels down to neutral ground far away from home to play that's how they do it in Federation Cup

They were actually travelling from Portharcourt to Awka where the match would be played and not from Awka to PH.

They had barely left their base when the accident happened on the outskirts of Port harcourt.

Even in the European leagues, they travel far distances by road. Does that take away from the league! Planning and logistics are key components which are dependent on so many variables.

A lot of teams have 2 buses, a Coaster bus and a Luxurious bus. The Coaster bus tends to be used for short trips and training and looks plain with just the team name plastered on them.

The luxurious buses are better designed all over and mainly in the team colours. They are quite impressive actually.

So sorry for them. I remember when arsenal has the same issues when traveling to Ipswich for there premier league game, it's part of football.
