Tinubu’s Recruitment Of 1,000 Forest Guards In Oyo Shows Poor Leadership - Obi by Segunbabba(op): 9:40am On Jun 06
The 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s approval for the recruitment of about 1,000 forest guards in Oyo State, describing it as a demonstration of “poor leadership” and a reactive approach to governance and security.

Obi stated this in a statement posted on his X handle on Friday, titled What Our Pervasive Insecurity Requires: A Holistic Not Reactive Approach. The former Anambra state governor said the decision reflects what he described as the Federal Government’s tendency to address critical issues without adequate planning.

In a hasty effort to be perceived as attentive and courageous, it is reported that President Bola Tinubu has approved the recruitment of about 1000 forest guards for Oyo State. This is a further demonstration of poor leadership and attending to very serious governance and security issues with a reactive approach,” he said. He added that the approach was similar, in his view, to the policies that followed the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira, which he said had caused “irreparable damage to ordinary Nigerians and the economy.”

Tinubu approved the recruitment following recent abductions of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

While acknowledging the need for more security personnel, Obi questioned the sustainability and consistency of such measures. Presently, almost all the 36 states in Nigeria are experiencing different forms of insecurity, with Oyo, Plateau, Kwara, Kogi, Borno, Katsina, Anambra, Niger, Imo, and Sokoto being very alarming,” he noted. Obi questioned whether similar approvals would be extended to all states.

The question, such as the reactive approach of our President, is whether all the states will receive the same approval to recruit 1000 forest guards per state, that is 37,000 forest guards for the 36 states and Abuja, or is the recruitment approval based on the mood of the President?” he asked.

He also queried the possible implications for existing regional security outfits. Moreover, with the approval for Oyo, what will happen to the Amotekun Corps that is trying its best to secure South-West Nigeria? Will they be disbanded in Oyo State?” he said.

Obi further stated that insecurity in Nigeria reflects what he described as systemic leadership failure, noting that over 10,000 Nigerians had reportedly been killed since 2023, while Nigeria remains among the world’s most terror-affected countries. He said addressing insecurity requires a holistic or ecosystem-based approach. Addressing our insecurity situation requires a holistic or what can be described as an ecosystem approach.

With failure in leadership, there is failure in unifying our dear nation, failure in industrialisation, failure in harnessing our abundant resources in agriculture, minerals, tourism, water, sports and even oil and gas to effectively generate required revenue, growth and particularly jobs for our exponentially growing youth population,” Obi said.

What do you expect from a substance taker whose security chiefs are only good in tracking critics but fails in tracking bandits, the tell the governors to protect their people but gives the police,Army, dss, even civil defense instructions not to listen to opposition governors even when the form vigilantes the refused to approve them. Rivers state for instance tinubu police tear gas Fubara.

I will like to know Mr. Peter Obi's suggested solutions if he is so concerned about Nigeria and Nigerians...

I wrote this suggestions. Other are already contributing too on the thread...
What Practical Steps Should Southwest States Take Against Banditry and Terrorism?
https://www.nairaland.com/8685199/what-practical-steps-should-southwest

Please, make your suggestion also on that thread. An authorised person may be reading this too and your contributions will be of help

For me

1. Establish a Comprehensive Resident Identity System

The Each State Government should develop a comprehensive resident identity and address verification system to improve security, planning, and service delivery. Every resident should be encouraged to register through a centralized database linked to verified residential addresses. This system will assist law enforcement agencies in identifying criminal elements, tracking suspicious activities, and improving emergency response capabilities while respecting constitutional rights and privacy protections.

2. Registration and Regulation of Herders

All herders operating within Each State should be required to register with the State Government and the relevant Local Government Authorities before engaging in grazing or livestock activities. Registration should include biometric identification, location of operation, livestock records, and compliance with state regulations. This measure will promote accountability, reduce farmer-herder conflicts, and help security agencies identify unauthorized or suspicious activities.

3. Monitoring and Prevention of Violent Extremism

The government should strengthen collaboration between security agencies, community leaders, and religious organizations to identify and prevent violent extremism. Authorities should monitor and investigate individuals or organizations suspected of supporting terrorism, radicalization, or violent activities, regardless of religious affiliation. Any person found to be promoting or financing terrorism should face prosecution in accordance with Nigerian law.

4. Promote Agricultural Self-Sufficiency

Each Southwest State should invest heavily in agriculture to enhance food security and create employment opportunities. Government support should include access to improved seedlings, mechanized farming, irrigation systems, agricultural training, storage facilities, and access to markets. Increased agricultural productivity will reduce economic vulnerabilities and strengthen rural communities.

5. Develop a Community and Neighbourhood Intelligence Network

A structured neighbourhood intelligence network should be established across communities in each state State. Residents, community leaders, traditional institutions, and security agencies should work together to identify emerging security threats and share relevant information. Such a system should operate within legal frameworks and emphasize the protection of citizens' rights.

6. Eliminate Illegal Settlements in Deep Forest Areas

The government should conduct a comprehensive survey of forest reserves and remote settlements. Unauthorized settlements established in deep forests, particularly those linked to criminal activities, should be dismantled through lawful procedures. Forest reserves should be regularly monitored and patrolled to prevent their use as safe havens for kidnappers, bandits, terrorists, and other criminal groups.

7. Swift Prosecution of Serious Crimes

The State Government should strengthen collaboration with the judiciary and security agencies to ensure the swift investigation and prosecution of kidnapping, terrorism, banditry, illegal arms trafficking, and organized crime. Fast-track procedures should be considered for cases involving serious threats to public safety while ensuring due process and fair trials.

8. Establish Formal Reporting Channels for Suspicious Activities

Multiple reporting channels should be created to enable citizens to report suspicious activities safely and confidentially. These channels may include dedicated hotlines, mobile applications, community liaison officers, and local security committees. Public awareness campaigns should educate citizens on how and when to report security concerns.

9. Promote Civic Education and Constitutional Values

Schools across each State should strengthen civic education programs that teach constitutional rights, responsibilities of citizenship, peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and respect for the rule of law. Young people should be equipped with the knowledge and values necessary to contribute positively to society and resist extremist influences.

10. Prosecute Incitement to Violence

The government should adopt a zero-tolerance approach toward incitement to violence, hatred, terrorism, or public disorder. Individuals who promote violence through public speeches, religious gatherings, traditional institutions, political platforms, social media, or any other means should be investigated and prosecuted according to the law, regardless of their status or background.

11. Expand Vocational and Technical Education

Each State should significantly expand vocational and technical education opportunities to equip young people with practical skills for employment and entrepreneurship. Training programs should focus on modern agriculture, information technology, construction, renewable energy, manufacturing, and other high-demand sectors. Empowering youth economically will reduce vulnerability to recruitment by criminal organizations and extremist groups.

All these fake imported religions have destroyed the normal mental processes of a lot of our people.

If you are following any of the two religion, you should know for fact that:

There is no heaven, there is no hell, there is no God (or god), there is no Allah, there are no angels, there are no demons, there are no spirits, there is no life after death, juju don't work, there is no eternal judgment, there is no karma, there was no historical Jesus. All those are figment of human imaginations and tools use by a very few some to control the very many others. The earlier you understand and accept these facts as facts, the happier and merrier your life and existence will be.

The religion you're currently claiming is the religion of your parents, if you were born into a different family of another religion (say Hinduism), that is the exact religion you will practice.

You were born without a religion in you, your factory reset has no religion in it. If you were to be a phone and they do factory reset on you today being a phone, there will not be anything found related to religion in your settings, files and file systems anymore; you learn religion only after your birth growing up.

Islam is idolatry and paganism, Christianity aswell is idolatry - All the world religion is idolatry, including all the Abrahamic religion. Holy communion is idolatory, bowing for a stone call Kaaba of the Bedouin tribes is also idolatory, killing of rams is idolatory, kissing or licking of a stone at mecca is idolatory, throwing of stone at pilgrimage is idolatory too.

Infact, Illah is what the Arabic call God and not Allah. Allah was one of the diety been worshiped before the invention of Islam. That is why muslims will say something like "la ilah ila huwa" meaning Allah is one Illah (God). Have you ask yourself why Prophet Mohammed's father who was an idol worshiper and who lived before the invention of islam has Allah in is name Abdullai== Abdu Allah? It is because Allah has been an idol worshiped by paganists before the Prophet received his revelations.

Nakedly circumambulations of the Kaaba, annual prigrimage to mecca, kissing of black stone, bowing towards the stone (stone worship) are all preislamic pagan practises by the nomadic Bedouin tribe and the same is what they still practice today.

All Abrahamic religion are idolatory, they only package them well and condemn your heritage as evil, whereas, Nigeria was better in terms of morality, honesty and integrity before they brought the foreign religions.

In peace loving, emotional intelligence, love for neighbors, respect for sanctity of life, we are even better than those who brought those religion with primitive leaders and prophets whose morality and characters are highly questionable.

Release yourself today from the shackles of religion. Stop wasting away your life and existence!

If you like, allow one illiterate alfa, imam or pastor to keep telling you "you will go to hell". When you die, your dead experience will be like the same experience you had before your conception (pregnancy) ie. There is nothing like afterlife. Or where were you before your mother gave birth to you?

In addition to his endless desperation for the presidency, this fraud appears to be suffering from a serious relapse of logic. A thousand policemen deployed to secure a political activity, and he says the same number should be deployed to provide security for the masses. A thousand security personnel mobilized to rescue abducted schoolchildren, and the same retard points to it as proof of failure.

The man simply does not know when to open his mouth and when to keep it shut. Every public statement seems to be a battle between contradiction and common sense, with contradiction winning comfortably. Yet this is the very fraud some people are desperately marketing as a messiah. The sales pitch gets weaker every time he speaks.

Very poor and not well thought out exactly... What's the point of the recruitment? Is it to find the kidnappers or to secure the forests? And how is a thousand hands gonna secure an area hundreds or thousands of square kilometers??....What happened to DSS with their signal intelligence to triangulate points of radio frequency these bandits are communicating across whether these brigands haven't taken these children across the border, Army with their gunships buzzing the whole forest area as a show of force to put pressure on the bandits, Navy , just being their usual nuisance and Air force with their air assets and drones. What are they doing?? But you want to send dane gun hunters with colonial style uniforms against crack Sahel/Sahara desert fighters from Mali..

Hope this answer una question whey dey talk anyhow

A simple way to think about it:
Forest Guards are like specialized security personnel focused on forests and hard-to-reach rural areas.
The Army is Nigeria's primary military force and can conduct large-scale combat operations against terrorists, bandits, or foreign threats.
In practice, Forest Guards are expected to work with the Army, Police, and other security agencies, not replace them. Their local knowledge helps security forces locate criminal camps and movements inside forests.
