Former governor of Bauchi State, Barr. Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, SAN, has officially emerged as the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in the State ahead of the 2027 general election.

Chairman of the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primaries Committee for Bauchi State, Assistant Inspector General of Police, John Bassey Abang (retired), announced the results early Saturday morning, stating that the governorship primary was conducted on Friday, May 22.

According to him, Abubakar secured a total of 57,517 votes to defeat six other aspirants who participated in the exercise.

He said the immediate-past Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, scored 26,001 votes, while Nura Manu Soro polled 13,638 votes.

Other contestants included Bala Maijama’a A. Wunti, who secured 13,648 votes, and Kabir Baba Ma’aji, who polled 8,157 votes.

Also in the race were Baba Abubakar Suleiman with 7,688 votes, and Yakubu Yakubu Abdullahi, who scored 7,181 votes.

Declaring the winner, AIG Abang (rtd) stated that M.A. Abubakar, having secured the highest number of votes cast, was duly returned as the winner of the APC governorship primary election in Bauchi State.

The committee chairman also announced the results of the party’s State House of Assembly primaries, noting that the election was conducted earlier on Thursday, May 21.

LEADERSHIP reports that Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar served as governor of Bauchi State from 2015 to 2019 under the APC platform.

He lost his re-election bid in 2019 to incumbent Governor Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His victory in the primary election now positions him as the APC’s flag bearer in the 2027 governorship election as he seeks a return to office for a second term..

Is he no longer from Kogi state since that was the accusation they labeled against him in 2019? Considering how powerful Ali Pate already is, will MA be willing to support him in 2031?

Sir, Tuggar is elitist and not grassrooted just like Adelabu in Oyo and Fayemi in Ekiti. The most popular candidate APC has is sen Shehu buba and Ex Gov Abubakar. Gov Abubakar lost in 2019 to Bala narrowly via internal gangup, there's nothing stopping him from winning. Wunti is manageable
Tuggar is not it please. The only strong challenge is Sen Ningi who isn't conresting
