Abubakar Shekau gained power by manipulating religion and poverty in Northern Nigeria.

He posed as a defender of Islam against corruption and “Western education,” winning trust from struggling communities. Then he betrayed them.

His fighters bombed northern markets, killed Muslim clerics, and attacked schools. The goal was never faith — it was control. Shekau’s version of Islam rejected education, democracy, and Nigeria’s Muslim traditions.

The North he claimed to save was left devastated. Millions displaced. A generation robbed of school.

Shekau died in 2021, but the lesson stands: extremists hijack religion to exploit the poor. Knowing the difference is the defense.

God is not capable of healing himself, let alone the country. I'm glad you rightly used the word 'ill'. God will make the country more ill. What we need in the country is revolution and removal of religion, most especially Islamic religion, followed closely by Christianity. They are two useless religions that have taken the country backward.

But this guy over the last couple of days has shown that he's a political influencer and dancing to the tune of his paymasters.

Mixing politics with religion is the highest level of deception most especially in a democratic setting.

He didn’t deceive them. It’s in their books and every other day one Sultan, Emir, Imam, Mallam is reiterating this in their mosques to them.

If there wasn't any threat of islamic extremism from the north to igboland i don't think there would have been anything like nmk and ipob there would have surely been nothing for him and his group to hold on to broadcast on radio.
