Geetaybeks:Hi Geetaybeks, thanks for sharing. For visitor visas, IRCC doesn’t just check balances, they want to see that your funds are liquid, accessible, and consistent with your income. Investment accounts can be harder to prove if they don’t clearly show availability. Salary isn’t the only factor; what matters is demonstrating you can cover your stay and return comfortably. Many people in your situation also explore other immigration pathways beyond the visitor visa. There are ways to assess your readiness and see which routes give you stronger chances. Once you understand your financial standing and potential pathways, you’ll be in a much better position to reapply successfully. |

humbleboyy:Congratulations! Do you mind sharing how much was in your investment and salary account. Also maybe give a range of your monthly earning if you don’t mind. I’ve a very similar profile to yours and I’m considering applying very soon. Thanks |

Good day All, I need some help and would appreciate thoughts of those familiar with the Canadian visa process. I did my biometrics in 2022 and got a visa which expired this year. I have applied for another visa and received a letter to submit my passport yesterday. I didn’t request for a new biometric since the current one expires in 2032. One of the instructions on the VAC website is to bring biometric sticker if applicable. Is the biometric sticker applicable to me? If yes, where can I get the old sticker? I have the old biometric instruction letter but not the sticker. Will appreciate thoughts and suggestions |

Its been 50 days since my application has been submitted and I haven't heard back from IRCC. Although their average processing time states 48days for Nigeria applications. [img][/img] Should I continue to wait or I should contact them? And please what's the easiest way to raise a complaint of late response? The last application that I was denied didn't waste time, it came exactly on the final day of processing time as stated on their webpage.

iyaoge24:With my 11 years of experience dealing with IRCC, one thing I understand is that IRCC will humble you and teach you the true meaning of patience. I would advise you to wait at least a week after the 48-day processing period before contacting them. IRCC is currently overwhelmed and is not always keeping to its published timelines because of the high volume of applications coming in, partly due to the World Cup and other factors. One thing is certain: IRCC will take its time. Contacting them one day after the deadline versus one week after the deadline usually does not make much difference. Hopefully, you will receive good news before that extra week even passes. |

iyaoge24:I understand where you're coming from. The frustration is real, especially when applicants see people with seemingly strong profiles getting refused with very similar refusal letters. That said, I don't think the situation is simply that IRCC is "running out of excuses." What appears to be happening is that Canada's immigration system has become much stricter in how it assesses risk, particularly for temporary resident applications such as visitor visas and study permits. A lot of applicants still focus heavily on having enough money, admission letters, or employment documents, but today's assessment goes much deeper into consistency, source of funds, travel history, career progression, ties to home country, and overall application logic. In fact, I recently wrote a detailed breakdown explaining why some "perfect" applications still get refused in 2026, how automated triage is changing application reviews, and what applicants can do to reduce avoidable risk factors. You can read it here: 👉 https://www.nairaland.com/8686093/why-some-perfect-canada-applications I'd be interested to hear from others as well. Have you noticed refusals increasing among applicants with otherwise strong profiles, or do you think most refusals still come down to weaknesses that applicants don't initially see in their own files? |
| Re: Canada Visit/tourist Visa Discussion. by Sheron50: 7:53am On Jun 07 |
relocationhub:The reality is that Canada has seen significant abuse of visitor visas, study permits, and asylum claims in recent years, including from countries such as Nigeria and India. With rising unemployment, housing shortages, and economic pressures, IRCC is applying much stricter scrutiny than before. Today, it's not just about having money or documents. Officers must be convinced that an applicant will comply with the conditions of their visa and leave Canada when required. Unfortunately, genuine applicants are also being affected by the stricter environment created by those who abuse the system. |
| Re: Canada Visit/tourist Visa Discussion. by relocationhub(m): 10:40am On Jun 07 |
Sheron50:I agree that abuse of immigration programs has pushed authorities to place greater emphasis on compliance, fraud prevention, and risk assessment. No serious immigration system can ignore those concerns. At the same time, I think it is helpful to distinguish between two separate issues: The existence of abuse within a program. The assessment of an individual application. Every application is supposed to be decided on its own merits. A refusal should be based on evidence within the applicant's file, not on the actions of other applicants from the same country or region. What many applicants are noticing in 2026 is that the threshold for proving credibility appears much higher than it was a few years ago. Strong finances, travel history, employment, or academic credentials may no longer be sufficient on their own. Officers are looking for a complete narrative that aligns across the application, supporting documents, financial records, and stated purpose of travel. That is why two applicants with seemingly similar profiles can receive different outcomes. The difference is often found in factors that are not immediately visible from a summary profile: document consistency, source of funds, study progression logic, travel purpose, family ties, employment stability, or how convincingly the overall story addresses the officer's concerns. For applicants, the practical takeaway is not to focus on what others did wrong. The better approach is to identify potential risk indicators in their own file and address them proactively before submission. |
| Re: Canada Visit/tourist Visa Discussion. by Sheron50: 11:47am On Jun 07 |
relocationhub:True, every application should be assessed on its own merits. However, when a program experiences significant abuse with high rate from.selected countries , officers naturally become more cautious, and the burden of proving credibility becomes higher for everyone. Unfortunately, genuine applicants also feel the impact of that increased scrutiny. Living in Toronto, I personally met a Nigerian who arrived with a valid UK visa and still made an asylum claim. Cases like this are one of the reasons immigration authorities have become more cautious and risk-averse. Public sentiment is also influenced by economic realities. Between January and April 2026, Canada lost over 110,000 jobs, unemployment rose to 6.9%, and more than 37,000 Canadians filed for insolvency in the first quarter alone, the highest level since 2009. With many Canadians struggling with affordability, housing costs, and pressure on public services, it is not surprising that immigration programs are facing greater scrutiny. Every responsible nation will prioritize the welfare of its citizens and permanent residents first. Fairness to foreign applicants matters, but no government is going to place that above the economic well-being, jobs, housing, and public services of the people already living in the country. |

relocationhub:You have said it all. Yes, the rejection numbers are crazy. I know I talked about the numbers before, which were around 75% in 2025, and because of that, AbelAbdul said I was discouraging people from coming to Canada and even called me a scammer. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I can only imagine what the 2026 numbers will look like... I pray everyone looking for visa will get what they are looking for... I have nothing else to add you have said it all. I agree with everything you mentioned. It's not all about money; every aspect of a person's application needs to add up. Strong finances alone do not guarantee approval. |
| Re: Canada Visit/tourist Visa Discussion. by relocationhub(m): 6:38am On Jun 08 |
amnotapervert:You have summarized it very well. The refusal numbers are indeed concerning. I remember discussing the trends back in 2025 when refusal rates were already attracting attention. At the time, some people felt I was being overly pessimistic or trying to discourage prospective applicants. Looking at the direction of policy changes and increased scrutiny today, it is clear that the assessment environment has become much more demanding. I can only imagine what the final 2026 statistics will show. Regardless of the numbers, I genuinely hope that everyone pursuing a visa or immigration pathway receives a fair assessment and achieves the outcome they are working toward. I also agree with your main point: it is not just about money. Many applicants still assume that a strong bank balance, admission letter, or employment document automatically translates into approval. In reality, officers assess the entire application as a connected story. Financial capacity is only one component. Career progression, source of funds, travel history, ties to the home country, study rationale, credibility, and overall consistency all play important roles. Some applicants with modest finances are approved because their applications are logical and well-documented, while others with substantial funds are refused because certain aspects of their profile raise unanswered questions. That is why applicants should focus on building a coherent and credible application rather than concentrating solely on proof of funds. |

| Re: Canada Visit/tourist Visa Discussion. by lanresz(m): 6:20pm On Jun 08 |
Not sure why my reply was not posted. I like your summary very well. However, some IRCC decisions on visitor visas still seem unrealistic. Even well-established individuals with legitimate reasons to visit Canada are sometimes denied visas without clear explanations. There was a recent case where an applicant challenged a refusal in court. Ultimately, the judge found the decision to be unreasonable and granted a judicial review. I’m not sure how to post the link to the decision without breaking the laws here. The case is Adeniran v. Canada (Citizenship and Immigration), 2026 FC 725 (CanLII). Those who are interested can search for it. I'm sure there are so many other refusals like that that people have no interest in going through appeal. Visa misuse has been an issue for a long time, and it is unlikely to disappear anytime soon. Unfortunately, this tends to lead IRCC to adopt stricter policies, which in turn can result in more questionable or inconsistent refusals. Given the level of scrutiny Canada already applies to visa processing, one might expect fewer instances of misuse. relocationhub: |

Essential01:Congratulations to your Mum. Is she a first time applicant or this is renewal? |
| Re: Canada Visit/tourist Visa Discussion. by iyaoge24: 11:14am On Jun 09 |
lanresz:I just read about this. This is a great step towards accountability. The Visa Officers for far too long have gotten away with bogus claims on refusals. Its beginning to look insulting to Applicants. I hope more people will begin to challenge refusals this way. How can a visa officer knock off substantial evidences in submitted documents then deny based the applicant based on his/her own personal judgement. That's a biased process. If visa holders abuse the terms on their visas, then find a way to hold them accountable. There are so many ways to hold them accountable. Don't pour the aggression on other applicants who have proper documentations and who have no history of violating their visas. |

Hi guys. Please, which hospital in Lagos, can I have my medicals? |
| Re: Canada Visit/tourist Visa Discussion. by Sheron50: 9:32am On Jun 10 |
lagusboyyy:If I may ask, which visa application do you need the medical ? For a regular business or visitor visa, you generally do not need a medical examination. A medical exam is usually required for applications such as permanent residence, study permits, work permits, or a Super Visa. |

Good Morning my people, I want to thank everyone who shared their experience and gave me advise during the tumultuous time of my application, refusals and waiting. ![]() I have good news, your efforts didn't go to waste. I woke up this morning to a PASSPORT REQUEST LETTER. This was my third time trying and I guess the third time is indeed the charm. I was inspired by the Lady whom her Mum got an approval in just 21 days to send a web form yesterday after waiting for 56days. And early this morning, I got an update. If you check inside my belle right now, you fit ride horse inside I'm so happy. I know the process can be exhausting discouragng but don't give up.Thank you all. |
