FG Slashes Ministers’ Imprest To N700,000

The Federal Government has introduced fresh measures aimed at strengthening financial discipline across Ministries, Departments and Agencies by placing new limits on reimbursable imprest and tightening oversight of public funds.

The new directives are contained in the 2026 Annual General Imprest Warrant signed by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele and conveyed through a Federal Treasury Circular issued by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation

Government is just chasing rats while elephants are eating the farm. Imprest is small change; the real money is hiding inside big contracts and bloated allowances. Plus, our problem has never been making rules, it is enforcing them
If the Ministry of Finance truly wants to achieve fiscal consolidation and reduce the cost of governance, they must stop filtering gnats while swallowing camels. They need to aggressively slash the core structural overheads of these MDAs.

This is a wrong move. Why slashing their imprest to 700k? That's not up to $1000.

I expect the Senate to go in a protest and declare that they will not vote Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
