Kaczynski:
Added to my watch list.

It's must be interesting .
Watch the original French movie that Hollywood copied instead, it's also made by netflix, it nailed the message perfectly compared to this remake

It reminds me of Hollywood's adaptation of the toy, another French movie that they dropped the ball on. The original French movie had themes of class exploitation and dehumanization, Hollywood turned theirs into a racial fantasy with a white kid wishing he had a plaything played by a black man, Richard Pryor to carry out his wishes, you will think they were cooking with this story but it lands nowhere

Hear me out.... Artificial intelligence is too big now to ignore, it's like the biggest tech innovation in this new century so trying to ignore it won't make it go away, and it will be foolhardy in the long run. Anthropic released a piece yesterday, that they might actually need to slow down AI development progress, because they can't imagine the scale of progress they have made.!, So you can't just wish this kind of tech away or pretend it doesn't exist just to stand on some shaky faux moral code.

I read the Pope's piece on AI last week, and the key takeaway was that, we should find a way to walk side by side with AI, so as the human condition isn't lost.

As a creative myself, i was always quick to call out hypocrisy when i detected the slightest AI use, but maan, i incorporated "Claude" into my workflow and i am 10x productive than without, so i am having a rethink because views should be dynamic and change based on recent facts

My point being, like the NRA slogan G*ns don't ki*l people, people ki*l people". AI has boundless good possibilities in every sphere, including filmmaking. The question is now, if you decide to make slops with AI, that's on you, not AI.

So masters of the universe is still getting positive reviews despite Jared Leto as skeletor. God is good He-man. God is good.

Two people who never seem to die in all the Scary Movie. Even when they die in the movie. They always seem to bring them back.

God knows I'll sure watch it. Need to have me a good laugh. Hehehe

Oh man, you misunderstood me, I'm not anti AI. Just like you, I had a turnaround and I heavily invested in it (just hope it's not a bubble because no one wants the dotcom bubble part 2). Why do you think I singled out Scorsese from the rising pro AI Hollywood? Why didn't I call out Affleck who just sold his secret AI company to Netflix on a 9 figure deal or Witherspoon who's slowly taking her production company to the field using the "Hollywood women need to get into AI" schtick to cover face or even Aronofsky who made a whole AI movie last year? I was calling out Scorsese's hypocrisy, despite knowing AI is the future, I'm still not denying the countless amount of jobs it will take/currently taking from creatives especially knowing it's using human creative input as a blueprint

I'm not even a marvel fan but how can someone who called them out for being slop go and associate himself with the king of slop? Make it make sense, everyone knows he did it for the green but the hypocrisy is what I hate the most and that's what I'm calling out

This is a major feat for them especially knowing that only one of these isn't an original work. In my opinion, yes they are still an indie studio even though their CEO said they were going to tow the blockbuster line years ago when things weren't going smoothly, this will show them and Hollywood that they don't need to take that route to achieve commercial success. My prayer is for a major studio not to beam lasers their way, either it will lead to an acquisition or sabotage for them to fail and trust me, the big 4 are watching and one or even all of them may make their bid soon

Isn't focus features and neon riding the same wavelength too? Obviously not as successful as A24 but they've been gaining momentum compared to the years pre pandemic
Yeah, Focus Features and NEON especially are built like A24. In fact, NEON is slowly looking like the A24 of old. And NEON has been smashing it critically recently, getting the Cannes Palme d'Or for 6 years in a row now. They seem to know how to really market their films for awards glory.

Focus Features is owned by Universal and is its specialty brand for indie projects. Focus are the ones behind sleeper hit— Obsession.

Yeah, like you I have been thinking about any of the big studios looking to grab either A24 or NEON. But on closer look, I feel they're not too interested in them. Reason why they all created their own specialty film labels.

WB Pictures just unveiled its new specialty indie label this April — CLOCKWORK. And it's quite ironic that the first film the Label has acquired is Sean Barker's upcoming film Ti Amo!
More juice to CLOCKWORK is that it's CEO and two other executives are NEON's former execs. grin

So I don't think the Big studio's are eyeing Indie studios anytime soon. I don't think they like the optics and the brouhaha such an acquisition will stir up. So they're creating their own.

Sony also has Sony Pictures Classics. Disney has Fox Searchlight.

The only ones who would be in that position to acquire the major indie studios will probably be AmazonMGM, but I doubt they're thinking in the same wavelength. Those ones focus is competing with the big boys for now. Apple? Not really. They're more concerned about making money off their films at present than Awards. Their TV shows got them covered on critical acclaim on that account.

Angel's Egg (1985)

Synopsis:
In a decaying city, a little girl takes care of a large egg which she believes was laid by an angel and crosses paths with a gun-toting young man searching for a bird he saw in a dream.

This movie was produced by the director of Ghost in The Shell and it's regarded as a timeless masterpiece anime movie.

Thoughts:
First of all, the animation and art style is genuinely impressive especially for a work that old, but it has very little dialogue.
This movie is layered with a lot of religious (christianity) symbolism and deals mostly with the struggles of faith and loss of faith.
It takes place in an alternate world where after the flooding of the world, Noah sends a bird out of the Ark to seek dry land, but in this alternate world, the bird does not return, symbolizing a world forsaken by God.
(Remember its just fiction).

It mostly follows a young girl carrying an egg she believed would hatch into a dove showing her faith despite living in a world of despair.
She comes across a young man carrying a weapon that resembles a cross with bandages on his hands (the cross and the injuries from the nail?)
Unlike the girl whose actions are mostly guided by pure faith, the man is more rational and knows the egg she protects is empty as a forsaken world. And just as he suspected, when he cracked open the egg, it was empty.

To cut the story short, upon her death through her fall and drowning, her faith leads to the birth of many other eggs with these eggs actually containing doves. We also see a stone image of her rising from the ocean with a sun (that probably represents god) among the angels in worship leaving the forsaken world.

The movie is quite complex but packed with a lot of symbolism. There is very little dialogue as well with the first words coming over 20 minutes into the movie.
There is a lot open to interpretation like the scene of men with hooks trying to catch shadows of fishes moving in the city but fail and end up destroying parts of the city.

I do not recommend, unless you are willing to dissect the movie. It is not a movie for casual viewing.

Brooooooo....I actually need James Cameron to stop this fooling...This kind of high technical film making skills could be better used on other projects.
Lol.... The guy just dey use that one console himself cos he knows he can't compete with the recent crop of filmmakers at present for critical acclaim.

He is more or less a dinosaur. And I remember saying I no really rate am some time ago and Una chop my head. grin grin

This guy no do anything for almost 20years asides blue people. And peeps still dey rate am based on past glory.
No be the same people and critics' dey whine this The Godfather director a year ago or so.
I feel they don't exchange the same lack of niceties to James Cameron just because he's very close and involved in the industry.

He's a technical genius no doubt, with his pioneering of CGI work, 3D images and camera design etc.

Make him rest with this Avatar. It's an over beaten horse already. Na people wey still dey make him movie gross $1bn I blame.

Not sure even WB believes in this movie. The budget for the promo is in the gutters. If not for contractual agreements, they probably would have skipped it altogether. It will be a miracle if it does well, both critically and commercially tbh.

My weekend watch

Hokum (2026), 7.2/10:
The story follows a novelist who travels to a remote Irish hotel to scatter his parents' ashes, only to discover that the hotel may be haunted by an ancient witch

It delivers several effective scares and disturbing visuals, the pacing can feel slow at times, and the story might feel overly familiar compared to other modern horror films.

Overall, this is a well-made horror film that combines ghostly scares with themes of grief, guilt, and redemption. It may not reinvent the genre, but it delivers enough suspense and atmosphere that I consider satisfactory.

In the Grey (2026), 7/10:
A team of skilled operatives sent to recover a billion-dollar loan, leading to a dangerous mix of heists, deception, and action.

Guy Ritchie delivers the kind of cool action sequences he's known for, the movie is stylish and entertaining, with the fast-paced editing, sharp dialogue, however, I actually found the plot to be overly complicated at times.

Just like my review above, "In the Grey" doesn't redefine its genre, but it is a fun, and slick action thriller that provides solid entertainment for fans of heist movies.

The Princess Bride (1987), 3/10
With a 93% Rotten tomatoes critic score and an even higher audience score, this movie is regarded by many critics as one of the most perfect movie ever made, but I come with a warning rather than a review, "watch at your own peril"

It looks like Lionsgate don't really care about getting their first ever billion dollar movie with Michael.

I didn't expect them to release it on digital until the end of this month.

This is one of the most atrocious review I've ever seen. Princess Bride is the perfect movie for that genre. You only hate it because you don't fancy that type of storytelling
