The era of criminals using unregistered vehicles or vehicles without number plates had long gone.
The kind of evil we see in d societies is d type that's brazen and with impunity.
So, I don't think this contributes to insecurity in any way

About time. Good morning to the IGP and the Nigerian Police.

Why did it take so long for a lawless country like ours to realize that all these wannabe big men and their copycats driving around in unlicensed cars are the real problem in a State with security issues?

Every car, including the the Presidential Fleet should have a unique identifier on a public road because Nigerians and especially the Police should be able to identify a car that commits a crime, has an accident or even knocks someone down and disappears. There is no rocket science to this.

Please implement this to the letter and let every big man or Tokunbo car be identified otherwise they will be used for criminal pursuits right in our faces and we won't be able to report them to the police because there is no means of accurately identifying them other than their Make, Model and colour, a combination which are not necessarily unique.

I agree WITH the IGP on this one

Every licensed Car Dealer should have their own unique number plates which they can affix on a car when it needs to go on a public road. It then becomes easy for the Police to identify which dealer was driving a particular car if the Police need to trace them for any reason.

This is very senseless. It's not like the kidnappers use cars without plate number, that will attract the law enforcement to them more. They just want to cashout.

Tokunbo cars come with the foreign number plate that they were shipped with from the originating Country. These should be kept on the car until it is registered in Nigeria. Even Foreign number plates can be used to trace a car on Nigerian roads. It is a big crime already to drive a car that cannot be identified on a public road.

Please the one chance in Abuja is getting too much, I remember during elrufai days, taxis were required to be painted in the official colours and have bold numbering on them for easy identification and documentation by their unions .Pls someone close to the minister should bring this suggestion to him to reduce the high crime rates of one chance in Abuja.

The government and security agencies should install cctv cameras in every street poles in that western (COMPANY) called nigeria.. that's how other civilised (NATIONS) does to easily track down crime and stop acting timid...always chosen analogue way in a digitalised world

you mean you drive around with unregistered cars in countries that are not shitholes

It's indeed believed that before your vehicle enters Nigeria since you already have the vehicle details handy you are expected to have proceeded your papers so as it Comes from port u affix your number plate and drive out.
As for the dealer, of course u are equally expected you have processed your dealer number plate, that, as the vehicle lands, u affix your dealer number plates which Comes in 3s and hit the road from the port. I was enlightened at FRSC offive ogere when my GMC savana Van was driven to Lagos without number plate. So it's real

After every announcement of a new law to prevent insecurity, only a few are being molested by the police if they commit the offence & majority still bribes their way through it all. God bless the few officers of the law who shun bribe & remain diligent, but 90% are shameless crooks. Who passes through Igando-Iyana Iba-enroute trade fair & see how shameful the police men on that road collect bribes from the motorists in broad day light, dirty looking pigs at intervals of 20 meters. Smh

How on earth will a vehicle be on the road without plate number.? I bought a car recently in Canada, I could not move it out 1 meter without plate number and standard auto insurance
