President Tinubu Commissions OSEX Main Carriageways In Abuja by CapitalLens(op): 10:59pm On Jun 09
…VOWS TO END ERA OF ABANDONED PROJECTS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR has officially commissioned the completed main carriageways of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX), stretching from the Ring Road I Junction (Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway) to the Ring Road II Junction (Kabusa junction leading to outer districts of Lokogoma and Galadimawa in the FCT).

The President, who was represented at the ceremony by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, described the landmark project as a tangible manifestation of the "Renewed Hope" agenda, declaring that his administration has effectively brought an end to the culture of uncompleted and abandoned public works across Nigeria.

He said, "When we took the oath of office to lead this great nation, …we promised a renewed hope that is tangible—hope that you can see, hope that you can feel, and hope that you can drive on! We don't start projects to abandon them. The era of uncompleted projects in Nigeria is gone! We finish what we start".

President Tinubu recalled that he had, in the last two years, commissioned the initial stages of the inherited OSEX project (also known as Mahamadou Issoufou Way) and stressed that its completion will further enhance traffic flow in the FCT, reduce lost man-hours and save fuel for commuters.

He commended the FCT Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, and his team for their dogged determination and focused vision in structurally transforming the nation’s capital for long-term prosperity, noting that the FCT Minister has shown that public service is about performance and not excuses.

"You have kept the contractors on their toes, and you have kept our vision alive. This is the spirit of the Renewed Hope agenda—delivering quality results for the Nigerian people, on time", President Tinubu stated.

The President also used the occasion to reassure Nigerians that the current administration was fiercely committed to infrastructure development across the country. “We will continue to build, we will continue to reform, and we will continue to invest in the future of our people”, he said

The Senate President, while delivering the executive address, also lauded Barr. Wike’s efforts to relocate the Apo Mechanic traders along the road corridor to a permanent site in the Wasa District. He noted that the tangible deliverables in the FCT were already earning the administration deep support from residents, as reflected in the ruling party's massive victories during the recent Area Council elections.

Speaking erlier, the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, recalled the President's explicit directive upon their inauguration in 2023 to ensure the completion of all inherited projects, given that they had already gulped significant public funds.

Barr. Wike further stated that the contract for the OSEX main carriageways from RRI to RRII was awarded in October last year, adding that he frequently visited the construction site to ascertain the progress of work, while the FCT Administration also ensured that the project was adequately funded.

The Minister admitted that he originally questioned whether China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC) could complete the road and its bridges in time for the President's third anniversary, but praised the firm for honoring its commitment and delivering on schedule.

“I want to sincerely thank CGC. This means that nothing is impossible if we are determined and committed to achieving results. With a proper understanding with your contractors and their belief that you will also carry out your own obligations, we were able to achieve a lot in ensuring we completed our project. I’m happy with them, and I want to say thank you so much on behalf of the FCTA", Wike said.

The Minister also used the occasion to dismiss critics who claim the country's developmental progress is stagnant, noting that the FCT Administration has earmarked an unprecedented 31-day period to inaugurate completed infrastructure projects in both the city centre and the satellite towns.

He added that the FCT Administration has also fully provided the infrastructure at the new site in Wasa District for the long-awaited relocation of the Apo Mechanic Village, bringing an end to years of unfulfilled promises by previous administrations to move them out and decongest the area.

"It baffles most of us when people say nothing is happening in this country. Can those in the FCT say nothing is happening in Abuja?" The Minister asked.

Minister of State, FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, while delivering the vote of thanks, expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to infrastructure development, describing the official commissioning of the two main carriageways of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) as another landmark achievement under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

She also affirmed that the project represents a significant milestone in the ongoing transformation of the Federal Capital Territory and a testament to the President's determination to deliver purposeful governance through impactful infrastructure.

Executive Secretary, FCDA, Engr Richard Yunana Dauda, in the project overview, explained that the commissioned project mainly comprised the two main carriageways of the Outer Southern Expressway from Ring Road I to Ring Road II and was being developed in stages.

He said the project, on full development will traverse Apo and Wasa districts, up to Kuje, terminating at the intersection of the Federal Highway, A2, at Gwagwalada along the Abuja-Lokoja route.

He is in the country. He is in Abuja. Yet Akpabio is representing him. No president will want to turn down a visual of him commissioning such a significant project undertaken and completed during his time in office. He'd want to show that indeed his government is working.

We have a president in hiding! It is becoming more obvious as the days go by that he is not sound in mind and body. If he can't take the rigours of office, why is he insisting to remain in that office?

Another one said it’s a useless project entirely

This is good. Well executed projects are always welcome.

But what is the lavish festive all about? Apc is making it seem as if road constructions are something special.

In 16 years, PDP built about 17 power plants. GEJ alone constructed/completed 10 of those power plants without too much noise.

A real leader doesn't need to take credit for everything.

While some politicians attend every event seeking attention and political gain, Tinubu is focused on building a government where everyone is relevant and every contribution counts.

Leadership is not about being everywhere; it's about making everyone feel included. That's the difference.

Or maybe Obi was the one that financed lowkey and transferred it to Wike for commissioning

It’s obvious you lack maturity. So if you’re the president, with all the insecurity and other vices in the country, it’s road that you will be eager to commission Abi? So you expect the president to be commissioning all projects across board, he doesn’t have more important things to take on abi?. When your hate for the president has subsided, and your brain start functioning. I guess you’d reason better.

That was how the balablu bulaba master planner delegated insecurity questions to El Rufai in London, and now we are seeing the results of his cluelessness and incompetence in security matters and other aspects of governance.

If it is not sheer wickedness, why fight for and grab power to hit the ground running with it, when you don't know how to provide basic government services and utilities to people?

By the way, any idea why Jagaban of Borgu did not delegate insecurity questions to Ribadu who was his ACN 20211 presidential candidate and part of his 2023 campaign team huh

Maxymilliano:
The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has explained why he delegated some members of the party to respond to questions posed to him.
According to the former Lagos Governor, he adopted the delegation method “to show team-ship”.

Tinubu spoke at the Chatham House lecture titled: ‘Nigeria’s 2023 elections: In conversation with Bola Ahmed Tinubu’, monitored by The Nation.

At the lecture, Tinubu after his opening remarks, assigned Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai to speak on how his (Tinubu-led) government would address insecurity and asked the Director of Strategic Communication of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Dele Aleke, to respond to the question on oil theft.

Wike Boasts Of Helping APC Use Judiciary To Kill Osun LG Funds Case, Warns Party Leaders Against Ingratitude

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has openly boasted that he assisted certain elements within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in deploying the judiciary to frustrate the Osun State local government allocation lawsuit.

In a video now circulating widely on social media and obtained by SaharaReporters, Wike made the claim while addressing a crowd in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The former Rivers governor accused the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, of benefitting from judicial actions against the Osun State Government without knowing those who did the work behind the scenes.

The suit in question led to the withholding of local government funds in Osun State, a development widely seen as targeting the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke as opposition in the state.

Wike, who spoke angrily, suggested that the court action supporting the APC’s position against the Osun government did not happen by chance, boasting that powerful political forces worked quietly to ensure the outcome.

“Don’t take our support for Mr President for granted,” Wike warned, in an apparent message to APC leaders defending Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. “You have to be careful about the statements you make. You have to be very careful.”

He accused Basiru of political ingratitude, claiming the APC was enjoying in Osun State without understanding who engineered their advantage.

“Today, you are enjoying in Osun. You don’t know those who did the work,” Wike said. “You are opening your mouth to talk about Rivers State.”
