“I’m back to the street” – Abroad-based Nigerian woman dumps husband over 50/50 marriage dispute

An abroad-based Nigerian woman has shared why she walked out of her four-year marriage, revealing that she left her husband and returned to single life after repeated disagreements over finances.

In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter), she explained that they had been operating a 50/50 arrangement since relocating abroad, sharing bills and responsibilities equally.

In her words, she said:

“Since we are doing 50/50, yes we are doing it, but now you still want to collect part of my money. We have been sharing everything equally, so why is my own personal money now a problem?”

The situation reportedly escalated after the couple received a backdated company payment of about £4,000 for work previously carried out.

According to her, her husband insisted that she contribute part of the money despite their agreement to split responsibilities equally in the home, a demand she said led to a major conflict between them.

“We are doing 50/50, but you still want to control my money. You even calculated how much I should bring from my personal earnings. That was my breaking point,” she added.

Her revelation has since sparked mixed reactions online, with social media users debating whether 50/50 arrangements truly work in marriages, especially among couples living abroad.

The situation has also reignited conversations about money, control, and financial boundaries in modern relationships.

As a man, don’t do 50/50 with your woman if you want to maintain your respect

Both men and women are envious and jealous by nature. But most husband are overtly jealous. If your partner whether man or woman knows how much you earn or income you received' he/she will want to spend it for him or her.

It happens to every marriage or relationship. So it is better to conceal your income from your overtly jealous and envious husband

My friend lost his marriage because of this. His wife earned more than him in govt agency. He wanted his wife to be giving him the excess.

Back to where you belonged in the first place. I can though the man was not right, making his wife agree to a 50:50 sharing formula with income. Any man who does that should agree with whatever issues arise. Be part of cleaning and cooking. If she has extra marital affairs to fulfill the obligation, you must bear it. You are the cause. Make it easy with your wife, even if she earns more than you.

As for the woman, she belonged to the streets originally. It was not an issue that needed moving out of the house. It shows that she had one leg in the streets since the first day of their marriage. So it’s good riddance to bad rubbish.

A very selfish woman who did not mind depriving her children of their father’s care. She also forgot that with a divorce, her journey in the UK ends, as she”ll get deported. Women stop taking bad advises, una no go gree.

The man probably sensed the lady may be coming into the marriage for an ulterior motive hence enshrined that "landmine" of 50/50.
