YORUBA ELDERS WARN NDC YORUBA MEMBERS AGAINST SABOTAGING PETER OBI'S 2027 PRESIDENTIAL BID

LAGOS — Prominent Yoruba elders have reportedly called on members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) of Yoruba extraction to remain committed to party unity and avoid actions that could undermine the presidential ambition of Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking during a stakeholders' meeting held in the South-West, the elders stressed that national interest, good governance, and democratic stability should take precedence over ethnic, regional, or personal political considerations.

According to the group, Peter Obi's candidacy represents an opportunity for Nigerians to evaluate leadership based on competence, integrity, and economic vision rather than tribal sentiments.
The elders urged all party members to close ranks and work collectively toward strengthening the NDC's chances in the forthcoming election, warning that internal divisions could weaken the opposition's ability to present a formidable challenge in 2027.

"We must rise above politics of division and support any candidate who can unite Nigeria and deliver meaningful development," a spokesperson for the elders was quoted as saying.

They further appealed to political leaders across the South-West to promote peaceful campaigns, issue-based debates, and national cohesion as the election season approaches.

Political analysts believe that unity within opposition parties will play a crucial role in determining the outcome of the 2027 presidential election, particularly as parties continue to realign and build coalitions ahead of the polls.

The development comes amid increasing political activities following the emergence of Peter Obi as a major figure within the NDC's 2027 political calculations.

Observers say the coming months will reveal whether opposition forces can maintain internal unity and present a coordinated strategy capable of attracting broad national support.
