Nonsense! 1500 housing units for a population of more than 220 million.

Why not reduce the cost of cement and building materials so everyone can build.

In fact, government has no business building houses.

Mortgage banking has been around for decades in Nigeria .

FMBN has been around for decades and banks like UBA had mortgage banking as far back as 1989.

It's just that most Nigerians even now don't like the idea.

It has been in existence for years. In fact, since like the 70s and it has gone through various transformations. So bat is not doing anything new.

The question is, can government workers afford it? Some go for as high as N20m for a one bed in some locations.

The government should ensure affordability and transparency in allocation.
No, it has not been in existence for years. What we've had for years are mortgages that have very high interest rates and usually short tenures. This one is a kind that has a single digit interest rate as envied in some developed countries, as well as option of paying for as long as 20 years. That was never available; it's new and praiseworthy.
There are government many workers that can afford it. They are not all same price or same location, and they are not forced. If you cannot afford it, go build or buy elsewhere. The scheme is not for everybody. Not everyone has houses in developed countries. People pay rent all over the world. As for transparency, you'll need to ask the organisations like ARMs and other mortgage bodies and developers that are part of it. You can also be part by the way. Na all information, terms and conditions.

Is this project beneficial to the country or just a few people? Would the houses be sold or given out for free or how? This govt sef
Re: Pictures Of Renewed Hope City Project In Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos by atobs4real(m): 10:40am On Jun 11
nairalanda1:
Well the masses , some of them will take a mortgage loan to buy the house and then pay it back

Also, the problem with free houses for all is...it costs a lot of money. As much as I hate to say so. If any government were to try to give everyone free houses, the budget would have to increase by 100 times for them to pull it off.

Plus the quality of the houses would suffer. It costs a ton of money to do that kind thing, and to save costs, low quality material would be used. That's the problem a lot of former communist bloc countries in Europe ran into.

Plus, assuming that tinupoo allocated the houses to 'poor people' there is the matter of maintenance costs. Unless you want the government to be paying for maintenance, which would also cost a ton of money...and which would worsen the debt.
At what ℅ will the poor benefit?

You guys should stop shouting slogans about 'will the poor benefit'. Unless you want our debt to be so high that we would be remembering tinubu times as those good old days.

No easy answer to this problem. Not just Nigeria, every country, developed and underdeveloped has the same issue. It's why there are homeless people in even developed countries. There is currently no way you can build a house for everyone, to everyone's taste, that is quality...without spending way beyond the means.

Credit schemes and mortgages make the 'fruit' a bit closer to more people. These are things we've been seeing in 'working' countries and asking for. In those countries, you don't need to have 100% of your money to buy houses, appliances, laptops, phones, etc. You can get them via credit, many of them pay for these things including their education for decades. Ever heard of credit cards? It is these ideas that the government is starting to make more possible and real. It's a great start.

THESE HOUSING PROJECTS ARE HAPPENING ALL OVER NIGERIA.

JUST BECAUSE YOU SAW THIS LEKKI ONE ON NAIRALAND DOESN'T MEAN IT'S THE ONLY SUCH FEDERAL-BACKED HOUSING SCHEME IN THE COUNTRY.

You guys behave as if Nigeria was non-existent before bat came on board.

Mortgages had been in existence long before even apc came to power and at single digit interest rates of 6% and up to 30 years.

You guys like to rewrite history to suit a false narrative. The bottom line is let it be affordable for public servants. Simple.

What you want is the lifestyle of people living in developed countries and in saudi on a budget that is not up to 40 billion dollars, most of which is based on loan taking.

You do not want the reality that most people living in developing countries face...high taxes, nothing like consumption subsides, limited production subsides, growth based on industries, lack of corruption and so forth.

You want a government that would take more and more loans to give you the good life, or sell more and more raw mateirals and share the money to give you the good life.

This leads to massive debt, which ironically is why tinubu has to take some 'good decisions' like removing fuel subsidy.

On the fuel subsidy, if tinubu brought it back today, you know we would have to spend half our budget just to fund the subsidy so that you can buy fuel at N200 per liter or less. You know that money would be replaced by loans. You know that tinubu government officals will take advantage of the corruption therien, even the man at the top...and you know that it would leave us in more debt.

Most of you guys are so dense that you cannot see the soluituon to your problems right in front of you, and when someone points the reality of things, na to abuse them and call them tinubu supporters.

Grow up and realize that development is not someone dashing you money. And no, I ain't a tinubu supporter because he is doing many of the same things I have just condemmed here, because winning elecitons is more important than anything in NIgeria.

Good afternoon, and get the eff off my mentions.

Yes. Parents should take some level of blame for not instilling proper morals in their kids and building them to be good citizens. I mean, how can a person so openly support frauds and drug dealers? Very troubling.
