The whole of Portugal, and the only striker people can point to as Cristiano Ronaldo’s replacement is Gonçalo Ramos.

Think about that for a second.

For years, Portugal have produced world-class talent in every area of the pitch. Elite midfielders. Elite defenders. Elite wingers. Yet the No. 9 position has remained a problem. Even Ronaldo himself wasn’t born a striker. He was shaped from a midfielder into a winger, and then into a goalscoring machine.

So when people like Rio Ferdinand say he should come off the bench, the question is simple: for who exactly?

Where is the world-class striker waiting to take his place?

There is no ruthless, undeniable No. 9 banging down the door. No generational striker forcing the issue. Just endless debate, opinions, and empty expectations.

The reality is that, at 41, Ronaldo is still the most feared goalscorer in the squad and still the player his teammates look for when they need a goal.

The truth is simple: Portugal’s biggest problem isn’t Ronaldo starting. It’s that after all these years, they still haven’t produced a striker good enough to make anyone forget him.

Not one.

You really don't mean this do you....
You want to keep one of the games biggest ego on the bench consistently for 2 World Cup games........ everywhere go catch fire.

He is definitely starting most games.
His legs are gone.. That's the truth, his ego doesn't matter anymore.. This isn't a 38games tournament..

This is the biggest trophy in football so the manager has to do what's best for the team..

All this one na CAP! How many countries are really using "world class striker" at this world cup? Is it France? Is it Spain? Is it Germany? Is it Brazil ?

Football has moved past all those unnecessary obsessions with all those "Most feared goalscorer" capping. Did Spain use any most feared goalscorer to win the last Euros?

Let Portugal move past Wasiu who is currently in his anticlimax era and see if they won't have a cohesive unit that can challenge for trophies without him.

Portugal should bench a player with 10 goals in his last 12games for them which Includes goals in the semis against Germany and final against Spain because he failed to score in a warm up friendly game? I am trying to understand your reason here.

The rumours about our interest in Arda Guler is getting stronger. One ITK even mentioned a €90 million bid. With Nico Paz returning to Real Madrid, there might just be a slim chance of him wanting out.

You get.

One can even say it is Portugal's dilemma of accommodating their country's biggest superstar (Wasiu) that is making them hang on to the almost phased out system of using a traditional Out and Out striker.

Almost all the countries doing well in world football today are moving past that system.

Was eagerly waiting to hear your opinion on Azeez Chief. Correct player, ambidextrous, and crosses well with both feet.

In your informed opinion why doesn't Nigeria produce technically procient CMs and AMs? In the past we had Oliseh, Adepoju, Oruma, Jay Jay grin and co. Nowadays nobody can turn and beat the press. Advancing with the ball too na fight! Heck most of the SE midfielders can't hit a shot on target to save their live.

Ibime:
Super Eagles done get 4 better wingers

Lookman, Philip Otele, Femi Azeez and Zadok Yohanna

Osimhen go too chop assist from Femi Azeez leg. My type of winger, no time wasting, chop and cross or chop and shoot

I never want to see Chukwueze, Simon and Ejuke again.

Popi will ignore the 99 times 4-3-3 defeated 4-4-2 but immediately the reverse happens just once he starts reminding us how superior 4-4-2 is and it's always funny to see.

Like most of the world, you hardly see proficient skilled black CMs / DMs that much anymore

They value us for our speed and strength and turn us to wingers and defenders early from academy days. It's an industry
