A Nairalander Won First Prize In Huawei ICT Competition Global Final In China by ABSAO(op): 4:54pm On Jun 11
Huawei ICT Competition: A Contest Living Up to Its Name – Connection, Glory, and the FutureI write this with immense joy because I have always dreamed of the day I would sit and share a defining chapter of my career journey. My passion for technology didn’t begin in the lecture hall. It started on Nairaland, Nigeria’s most popular forum, while I was still a secondary school student. Back then, it was just raw curiosity with no clear direction. When I gained admission to study Engineering, I finally took the first real step. I dived into frontend development, learning HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and its frameworks. Through the Google Developer Club and other student tech communities, I crossed paths with the ABU Huawei ICT Academy. That encounter changed everything. For the first time, I saw technology not just as code, but as real-world impact. I took the academy’s courses, earned my certifications, and my focus shifted. I developed a strong passion for becoming a Cloud Solution Architect and began investing deeply in that path.In the 2024–2025 edition of the Huawei ICT Competition, I won second prize at the national stage. That achievement opened a new chapter. At the regional stage, I was placed in a strong team where someone else was more experienced in cloud. I had to take responsibility for the AI track. With barely any Python experience, I suddenly found myself racing against time — learning an entirely new domain in just weeks. It was intense. What was supposed to take a year, I had to master in three weeks of bootcamp. But that pressure revealed something powerful: the competition has a unique way of awakening the “can-do” spirit in you. The logo’s emphasis on agility is not just branding — it’s reality. Though we didn’t make it to the global finals, the experience was invaluable. I refused to let it end there.I did a honest SWOT analysis on myself, identified my gaps, and pushed harder. The following year, in the 2025–2026 edition, I made it all the way to the Global Finals — and won first prize. This time around, the challenges were different. I had to master collaboration under pressure, manage the fear of performing on the global stage, and balance anxiety with self-belief. The rigorous preparation, the industry-standard bootcamp held at Huawei’s facilities, and the opportunity to witness how large-scale technology infrastructure is built and managed gave me insights no classroom or book could provide.Beyond the technical growth, the experience was deeply human. Travelling to China for the first time, competing alongside talented students from across the world, and building connections with like-minded peers who share the same vision — these moments remain unforgettable. The Huawei ICT Competition is more than a contest. It is a carefully designed platform that truly delivers on its promise: I.C. The Future — Innovation, Connection, and the Future. It took a young man who started with mere passion and frontend development and transformed him into an AI Engineer. That, for me, is the real meaning of Connection, Glory, and Future.

I participated in the Cloud Track. The exam is an 8-hour, lab-based task. Each team has three contestants and is expected to complete a real, industry-standard scenario lab using Huawei Cloud. The Cloud Track task is split into Cloud Service and AI tasks.

Ogbeni, paragraphs exist for a reason. What kind of digital diarrhea did you post? Do the needful.

Paragraphs are different from punctuation though both belong to the category of grammar. You still haven’t done the needed. Sha, this is Nairaland. You children hate taking correction.
