Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have intercepted one of the logistics networks supplying bandits in northwest Nigeria.

In a targeted operation conducted on Thursday, tactical teams intercepted a substantial cache of military-grade weaponry in the Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State, cutting off a critical supply corridor before the arms could reach their final destination.

The operation led to the direct arrest of one Abubakar Muhammad, an alleged high-profile arms courier who has been on the radar of state intelligence services.

Acting on highly sensitive, actionable intelligence, DSS operatives tracked Muhammad’s movements in transit as he attempted to navigate through Kano.

The sting operation halted his vehicle, preventing the deadly cargo from leaving the state boundaries.

A search of the suspect's consignment uncovered an assortment of offensive weaponry, including: three AK-47 assault rifles, four Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) tubes, and two empty ammunition magazines.


According to security sources, the intercepted arsenal was destined for Saidu Marafa, a notorious bandit kingpin whose terror network has been actively terrorising communities and carrying out mass abductions across Zamfara State.

The interdiction directly underscores the changing nature of counter-insurgency operations in the region, shifting the focus toward aggressive intelligence-led strikes on supply lines rather than just reactionary kinetic field battles.

"The operation was the direct result of intelligence generated by the Service, which tracked the courier's movement and mobilised operatives to intercept him," a senior intelligence source confirmed.

"This latest arrest is one in a series of successful operations... demonstrating our ability to infiltrate criminal networks, cut off arms supply routes, and weaken the structures that sustain banditry and armed violence across the country."

The DSS has confirmed that a comprehensive forensic evaluation of the seized weapons and electronic footprints is currently underway.

The suspect remains in custody and is expected to face formal prosecution upon the conclusion of the preliminary investigation.
