Just like people have suggested, you will need to get a wired connection like MTN fibrex and fibreone if you choose to stay.

Its a bit funny, because lack of signal only within the house suggests the landlord used really sturdy materials to construct the building, which is very unusual with the greedy landlords we have in this day and age.

Do you want me to advise you on this . Yes or no?
babaidan:
Good evening everyone.

I need advice regarding a house I recently rented through an agent.

I have not stayed in the apartment for up to 3 days, but I have discovered a major problem that is seriously affecting my work and income. There is virtually no mobile network inside the house. MTN, Airtel, and Glo all fail indoors. I have tested multiple phones and networks in every room, including the parlour, kitchen, and bedrooms.
The only way I can get a little signal is by opening the door or going outside. As I write this, my younger brother and friend are outside late at night trying to get network access. I also use several phones and a laptop for my work, so this issue has already affected my productivity and earnings.
The building is relatively new, and this problem was never mentioned by the agent before I paid. Had I known that there was no usable network inside the apartment, I would have seriously reconsidered renting it because my work depends heavily on internet access.

My questions are:

If I report this to the landlord and agent and they refuse to refund my money or provide a solution, what are my options?

Can such a matter be reported to the police, or is it strictly a civil matter?

Does this situation give me any legal grounds to seek a refund or compensation, considering I discovered the issue almost immediately after moving in?

I would appreciate advice from anyone who has experienced something similar or has knowledge of tenancy and property matters in Nigeria.

Thank you

How would the agent have known that there was no network in the house?

I was supposed to pay for a new apartment this month. New house, Pop, fine environment and all that, but immediately I stepped into the apartment I noticed that the service signal in my phones disappeared. Even my WiFi couldn't help me.
Now it wasn't just about internet connection, I couldn't make ordinary phone calls.
I had to quit further engagement with the agent.

The best thing you can do is to relocate, find another apartment.

Op welcome to the club, my own MTN network only works when it is 11pm till dawn 😁 and I have to switch it to 3G.
It works partially during the day when I change to 4 glte.

But Glo is God sent their network too good 👍🏼😊 God bless Adenuga.

Airtel, 😏😏 God must surely punish Satan.

Etisalat, I have nothing to say, if I speak I'm in trouble.

Welcome to the club

I have the same problem. What works for me is that I open a window in one of the rooms, put my phone close by, and I get network

I am considering getting MTN fibre, but that thing is darn too expensive. Also, airtel broadband as well.

Re: My New Apartment Has No Network Signal Indoors And It Is Affecting My Work by GerogeI(m):
This is a simple known effect in Physics or nature known as a Faraday cage, after Micheal Faraday. Once you enclose any 3D space in metal with holes, No radio wave with wave length larger than the holes can penetrate into that space. That's why when you open the windows, reception improves. The roofing is probably aluminum that is very tight against pests. The floor has a lot of iron rods in a mesh. The walls are either reinforced, or metallic are strongly dispersed in the wall. Or the paint on the wall has dispersed metal. Like lead based marine paints.

Solution.
1. Look for where to create large opening. Like keeping the toilet windows permanently open.
2. Check if the windows are using metal mosquito net. Change a few to fabric mosquito net.
3. Buy external broadband routers
4. If metallic paint. Scrap one external wall and repaint with non metallic paint

There so many houses like this in Lagos Island, zero network once you're inside... Mostly storey apartments.

My former workplace the entire apartment are using external Wi-Fi for internet. Glo, MTN, AIRTEL internet service don't work there.

Bro network availability is not in landlord's control unless it was guaranteed as part of your lease agreement. The landlord in this case would be very right to deny you a refund. Either you look for a place to hang out to do your work or go rent a shared office space.

Even if you’re refunded, how do you plan on moving and getting another apartment if you can’t get or wait to get a 15k modem
Or maybe you just don’t like the house again

Tell the landlord/agent that your working place transferred you to another state so therefore you can't and wouldn't need to stay there anymore. Plead with them
Your best option, plead with them to look for someone else to rent the place and refund your money
You will also need to be patient or willing to lose part of the money
But the problem will be where will you be staying until you are refunded and from your responses no money to rent another apartment
