I understand your frustration, especially if public funds are involved. However, I think there is an important distinction that needs to be made.

The prisoner transfer agreement does not set anyone free. These inmates are not being pardoned, acquitted, or rescued from the consequences of their actions. They remain convicted prisoners and will continue serving their sentences under Nigerian authorities.

Every country has a responsibility to protect the welfare of its citizens abroad, even when those citizens have made serious mistakes. Consular assistance and prisoner-transfer agreements are not endorsements of criminal behaviour; they are part of normal diplomatic relations between sovereign states.

If we take the argument to its logical conclusion, should Nigeria abandon all its citizens overseas who find themselves in legal trouble, regardless of the circumstances? Most people would agree that there is a difference between respecting a foreign country's laws and completely washing our hands of our citizens.

Also, not every Nigerian inmate abroad is a hardened drug trafficker. Some may have been convicted of other offences, and prisoner-transfer agreements are typically subject to legal reviews and eligibility criteria. Each case is not necessarily the same.

I agree that anyone caught trafficking drugs should face the full consequences of the law. But justice and humanity can coexist. Allowing a prisoner to serve a sentence closer to family does not erase the crime; it simply recognizes that rehabilitation and family support can play a role in reducing reoffending and aiding reintegration into society.

The message should not be that crime pays. The message should be that Nigerians remain accountable for their actions wherever they are, while still retaining their rights as Nigerian citizens.

A country's commitment to its citizens is tested not only when they succeed abroad, but also when they fail.
I understand they are not being set free but why should they be brought back at public expense?

They should have been left there to serve their sentence .

The man brought sanity to your once bedlam SE region.

He is investing heavily in infrastructure in same region.

Your governors have more capital to work with owing to Tinubu's reforms.

He is freeing your relatives that have been locked up for years if not decades in foreign prisons

Nah who help una , nah him Una dey hate pass.
Please spare me of your bigotry: i don't care a hoot the region Tinubu come from. I am not in the House of Representatives nor senate to speak for any region. I speak as a citizen of Nigeria.
In my own opinion Tinubu government is a monumental disaster: the quantum of money at the disposal the present regime in Nigeria is unprecedented and yet over 80% of Nigerians are living in abject poverty. Insecurity in Nigeria today has worsened under Tinubu's watch. The primary or basic survival needs of the people such as food is a luxury under Tinubu.
Explain to me how a macroeconomic policies or what you call reform that supposed to bring relief to the people unleashed a horrendous hardship on the same people.
How much do you think this rogue government is making daily from subsidy removal? From less than #200 per litre to #1300: and yet the government at all levels are not pay living wage to the workers. Tinubu reform simply collected from the poor masses and give to few rich ruling class. Given volume of money released into the hands of the government no Nigerian worker should earn less than N200,000 monthly. Mr. South-west what is the minimum wage in your state?

They are celebrating going back to Nigeria as criminals the country they hated and left to travel to Ethiopea or are they celebrating because they are going back to continue their criminalities in a lawless and corrupt nigeria?

Hope they have enough money to take care of themselves here in nigeria's prisons where inmates die daily from malnutrition and inadequate health care? They look decent and well fed in those ehiopian prisons.

Bigotry has affected you psyche: blinded your reasoning. No rational being will defend a failed government like Tinubu's.
In a sane clime, Tinubu would have resigned long time ago because the country is worse off than how he met it.
If you like cry river Tinubu is colossal faliure.
