This Is How You End The Kidnapping. But Nobody Has Guts To Do It. by Babatunjo(op): 8:01pm On Jun 14
Let me yarn una the truth.

The children in Oyo have been missing one month. One full month. A maths teacher was beheaded. A 2 year old was taken. And what is the federal government's answer? Coordination. Meetings. Press releases. Tactical waiting.

Nonsense.

The problem is simple. Our forests are ungoverned. Nobody lives there except terrorists. No checkpoints. No patrols. No consequences. A man can stay in Omo Forest for six months with 40 hostages and nobody comes for him.

Fix the forest first.

Create a proper militarized forest service. Not park rangers with whistles. Soldiers. Armed, trained, with drones and thermal cameras and orders to shoot. Station them across every major forest corridor in Nigeria. Make the bush dangerous for criminals, not safe.

Harden the borders at flashpoints. Oyo-Kwara, Oyo-Benin Republic corridors. Electronic surveillance. Physical barriers. Make entry and exit difficult.

Build a border force that actually fights. Not customs officials checking bags at a gate.

Find the sponsors. Follow the guns. Brand new AK-47s don't grow in forests. Somebody is importing them. Somebody is moving them in trailers to the bush. Find that person. That politician. That government official. Arrest him and try him publicly.

Now the hard truth.

Change the hostage policy. Make it official government position that terrorists holding hostages will be neutralised regardless. Yes, even if hostages die in the process.

I know how that sounds. But hear the logic.

Right now terrorists take children BECAUSE it works. Government panics, negotiates, pays. Repeat. The child is not a victim to them. The child is a business tool. Remove the tool's value and the business changes.

The moment government announces that hostage taking will be met with force regardless of outcome, the calculation changes. No ransom. No negotiation. Just bullets. Suddenly a child is no longer a shield. Suddenly the risk is too high.

Painful policy. But the alternative is what we have now. Children taken every month, ransoms paid every month, more guns bought every month, more children taken next month.

And hear this clearly. If this thing is not crushed now, it will reach you. Yes, you reading this in Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja. Right now it is Oriire, Ekiti, Kwara border. Give it two years of this same negotiation and delay and it will be your street. Your child's school gate.

Insurgencies don't stay in one place. They follow where government is weak. And right now government is very weak everywhere.

The solution is not complicated. Govern the forests. Harden the borders. Change the hostage policy. Jail the sponsors.

But all of it needs one thing we don't have.

A government willing to accept short term pain for long term peace. Willing to let some hostages die today so thousands are safe tomorrow. Willing to arrest a senator if he funded terrorists.

Until somebody has that kind of guts, we will keep burying teachers and releasing statements.

God help us. cry

Ban usage of cash by enforcing cashless policy, kidnappings end naturally. Ransom payment can be tracked electronically.
I also agree with forceful rescue operations.

I had already said the same thing some weeks back that givt cannot continue to pamper this kidnappers, declare total war against them.......if i were tinubu,I will setup an anti terrorism tactical squad,an elite force made up of the best men in our military under the direct command of tbe C in C that can be deployed to any part of the country kidnapping takes place.......locate the criminals and ensure they aren't allowed to escape, give them just 24 hrs to surrender,if they refuse engage them with full force, yes there will be collateral damage but I did rather pay compensation to the families of the victims than pay ransom to the criminals.....if this happens in about 3 to 4 incidents kidnapping will end immediately as there will be no motivation anymore as you know the eventual outcome his death.

When there is no consequences for crime, it becomes a way of life. Crime gets worst if it seems to pay more than legitimate hustle. That is the major reason why terrorism and kidnapping is thriving in Nigeria.

Your long post failed to hit the main point.
Tracking communication is the best method to deal with kidnapping.
Why is it easy for DSS to track critics but can't track kidnappers?
Forest is not the problem. Some kidnappers keep their victims in a building.

Funny.

Those tactics will be corrupted by the govt to protect their terror boys.

The only way to end it is allowing citizens to arm themselves too. If a community is armed to the teeth too, dem no born any Fulani govt-sponsored terrorist to come freely like they own it and take kids.

It's preplanned.

Suddenly, the OP who has always been a major supporter of bad government right from time has an opinion he wants people to listen to. You that have always believed that Igbo people are your problems and always shouted it everywhere on this forum now want a collaborative effort to curb the insecurity issue that you WILLFULLY walked into just to spite the Igbos.
Dey play.

Allow citizens to bear arms as well.

Completely legalize self defense. Not the one you tell a citizen to defend himself but not kill his attacker or you charge him to court after he kills his attacker in self defense.

Great points.

Strengthen institutions like Judiciary, military...

Local policing is needed

Combat the Almajiri system acting as a feeder to recruit terrorists.

You assume tinubu doesn’t know who the sponsors re. What if I tell you. Dss, millitary police and private investigators at the presidents tip have dossiers on the people involved in this.

What if I tell you attacks don’t come as a suprise. Whoever is interested always knows 4 -6 hrs before any major attack.

Will you still suggest this ?
What if I tell you the people running this shit are richer than the govt. They can match the govt in any font. They have soldiers. /bandits. Weapons. Etc

The only thing that will save life is a comprehensive geopolitical militia. Like anmotekun and esn.
And maybe splitting the nation.

The north have active collaborators in thier millions. The Tuareg militia can attack us in the south if we don’t form a buffer now. Apparently sw now has the same problem…. All them isaq akintola love things like this. Just know himself nd his followers are willing partisans.

Nigeria now has an officially established industry called " Kidnapping Industry"
Backed and sponsored by the Government, with stakeholders in active corridors of the current Government.

You want to advise govt. Govt that has people who have worked in security, intelligence, espionage, hostage negotiation , threat detection and assessment for years. Govt that has access to the best brains and resources to find anybody on the planet if they want. Let nobody deceive you, the reason why all this terrorists are running wildly is not because the govt doesn't know what to do, it's because they don't have the political will to do what needs to be done. They know where these kidnnapers are, they know their sponsors, they know how they get supplies, they know their forest routes. They know everything, they have the intel. But acting on it is a totally different matter.

The north have active collaborators in thier millions. The Tuareg militia can attack us in the south if we don’t form a buffer now. The crises in Mali currently is an extentialial conflict that we black woolly head Africans should be aware of. The Arabs living in North Africa are pushing themselves down south. They have been at this for centuries. The Fulani Toubou Kanuri, Beja, Somali, Afar, Tuareg Toubou, Moorish Arabs, Hassaniya Arabs, are different from us down south. They have killed off all the black indigenous Africans in thier regions. Remember the war in dafur, wars in Mauritania. Chad. Nigeria, currently Mali annd bukina faso. General As goita, if Mali understands this. He is butchering them even chickens anmd goats are not spared. This is what we shiukd do in Nigeria to safeguard our children’s life. Nobody is coming to help . Apparently sw now has the same problem…. All them isaq akintola love things like this. Just know himself nd his followers are willing partisans. People like him will shelter Islamists any day.

Even better solution full ground for Aso Rock and all government desks.

Problem has always been LACK OF POLITICAL WILL to execute the solutions. This lack is always propelled by personal interests, primordial sentiments and lack of human sympathy.

Number 1 step to quashing kidnapping is cashless policy. But the same people you expect to listen and act on your solutions fought the policy to a standstill because it would not help in their bribery and money laundering…..and some Nigerians were happy because they never ever want to go through any stress when buying loaf of bread.

For the few weeks or months the cashless policy was implemented, kidnapping stopped naturally.

1000%. The OP has said it all. We need to be brutal and ruthless now with these animals, and sadly if that means some hostages die, then that's what has to happen. Once they realise that they are NEVER going to get paid, it will quickly stop. We need state and even LG level armed militias deployed in the forests and WELL PAID. There's no point having extra armed personal in society and not paying them properly, they will at some point also join the problem. State governors must be given full powers to enforce security in their states, and then we the people MUST hold them accountable.

Some things are easier said. Those guys in the military, do they really want to be in the military? Here in plateau State, the little lockdown and curfew exposed the training these military personnel are given. It is not training but torture. Training is supposed to build them up but what the were given traumatized them instead. So the pick soft targets and transfer their aggression on them at little opportunity.

Those who have given themselves professional training end up being sold out to this terrorist and end up dying horrible death.

So there is no best Team anywhere. Just the normal broken military system that the subordinate are traumatized into serving those at the top while hoping to get to that top and transfer same aggression and trauma to their own subordinates.
