In this country, you are the only ones who surrendered.
Others were by amalgamation, but you went to add conquest to your own predicament.

Lagos is not your home, man—and it never will be. When we say some of you don't think before you speak, it's not meant as an insult; it's simply an observation.

My ancestral land cannot be your home unless you can show me your family compound—your agbo'le. I honestly don't understand this relentless obsession with Lagos. Be proud of where you come from, man, and celebrate your own roots instead of trying to lay claim to someone else's heritage.
Take your advice first by following the deities of your roots as well instead of the one foreigners forcefully fed your ancestors. grin

Do you know what is in clause 5 of the instrument of surrender Effiong signed on behalf of you Biafrans?

You are saying no one can stand you. Yet, you can't feed yourselves. Who do you want to feed you when you're fighting?
If they send ordinary 5 trucks of poisoned onions, that would be the end of the war.

No! Lagos is not your home because if it were you would never have opened your fork-tongue mouth to announce that “Igbos own all the lands in Lagos”. You did so to court controversy and cause division when you know for a sure fact that Igbos came to Lagos seeking to improve their chances of attaining prosperity on Western land.

You should be grateful that the Westerners are accommodating enough to let you live well in order to prosper on their land whether or not you rent or own the houses or businesses situated on those lands.

Lagos belongs to Every Nigerian irrespective of where you come from. This mentality of Yoruba own Lagos is really affecting our common heritage as a nation. Every part of the nation is a home to every Nigerian. Make it your home and help in developing it. Until we stop seeing ourselves as Hausa, Yoruba or Igbo, we cannot grow
Nonsense - you're all subjects of our traditional rules like it or not!

Why ain't you people proud of your ancestral land and home?

Lol! Make yourself understandable, dude—what exactly are you trying to say? Your post is riddled with grammatical errors, so it's difficult to make any sense of it. However, if it's about my heritage, as I suspect, then trust me: no one is more genuinely "Omo Isale Eko"—a true-bred son of Lagos with deep ancestral roots—than I am.

My ancestors? You've probably read about them in your history books. They were prominent, influential, and wealthy figures of their time.
And here's one thing you should understand: no outsider will ever be allowed to erase the Yoruba heritage of Lagos. No matter how hard they try, that will never happen.

I am not sure I agree with you sir. In 2026 your home is where you choose to make it. In the same Lagos are numerous people from Oyo, Osun, Ekiti etc, who have never been there and have no intention of ever going. Is Lagos not then their home? Similarly numerous people of Igbo extraction born in Mushin, Ajegunle, Isale Eko who speak better yoruba than some indigenous Yoruba, they have never been to the east and couldnt locate their villages even if you gave them a map.

You may not agree with their choices of home, but as long as Nigeria remains one indivisible country, you cannot drive them away from their chosen home.

You may not agree with me, and that's perfectly fine, but I said what I said: Lagos is Yoruba, and Yoruba is Lagos. Your agreement is not required for that position.

The fact that someone's grandfather was born in Lagos does not automatically make them ethnically indigenous to Lagos. Birthplace and ancestry are not necessarily the same thing. You can't erase the Yoruba cultural and historical heritage of Lagos because of "one Nigeria"— it won't happen. If you're not proud of your own ancestral land, that is your problem. I won't share my heritage with you, especially a non Yoruba.

And, dude, I'm a proud "Ronu," not a "Ponu"!

Any Nigerian having to apologize for living in Lagos is as absurd as an Englishman apologizing for living in London, a South African for living in Johannesburg, an American for living in New York, a Brazilian for living in Rio de Janeiro, etc. Lagos is the economic capital of Nigeria and also its melting pot and nerve centre.

Of course this takes nothing away from the historical ethnic Yoruba identity but in my view no one should reduce Lagos to a tribal enclave. It is a city of international standing with a rich mix of culture and commerce.
What of Enugu? Is it an Igbo enclave?

we have always been quite but if u bring your nonsense to us we will turn on our aggressive side. I once shouted at a Yoruba man who tried to bully me. When he noticed my other side he turned it to a tribal statement but his people have to control the situation because he was clearly wrong. This is the usually pattern I have seen. They always try to belittle you or insult you then when u reciprocate then they want to play the tribal card rubbish..this is the era of bigotry 4 bigotry as a delta man we have Yorubas every where in my place we no dey intimidate or try to bully them.
And maybe you don't know the biggest/largest tribe in the south south is the igbos we have always been quite if we join the eastern igbos and north central igbos follow una with this same energy heen no go funny oooo
Just read a little and you will see meaning in what Baba Chinua Achebe said above and have a change of lifestyle so that coming Igbo generation will not have the same I Before Others mentality that ultimately produces a harvest of victim mentality when it comes full circle. No one hates you!
1. What happened to the property of the igbo  in the South -South after the Nigerian Civil War?
Answer:-
Following the Nigerian Civil War, the property of Igbo people in the South-South region (particularly in Rivers State) was largely classified as "abandoned" and confiscated by the government under the Abandoned Properties Act.The post-war confiscation and policy execution involved several specific actions:The Abandoned Property Decree: Indigenous Igbo residents who fled the South-South (like Port Harcourt) during the conflict returned to find their homes, land, and businesses seized. The government justified this by claiming the properties were abandoned, and subsequently sold or allocated many of them to non-Igbo indigenes. The £20 Policy: Beyond physical property, the federal government enforced a financial policy dictating that any pre-war bank account in the Eastern States was credited with a flat sum of £20, regardless of how much money the individual had deposited before the war.Public Office Dismissals: Many Igbo civil servants and professionals who participated in the Biafran civil service were summarily dismissed or compulsorily retired, further crippling their financial stability. While some individuals were eventually compensated or managed to reclaim their seized assets after years of legal disputes, the vast majority of these properties were permanently lost, forcing the Igbo community to rebuild their lives from scratch. If you would like to know more about this historical era, I can provide information on:How the Igbo apprenticeship system aided rapid post-war economic recovery.Specific legal and political efforts to reclaim the seized lands. The broader socioeconomic impacts of the Indigenisation Decree.Let me know which area you would like to explore further.6 sitesAbandoned Properties Post-Civil War: A Tale of Justice and Injustice28 Jan 2025 — The law allowed the government to take over any property that was abandoned during the civil war and sell it off to interested buy...Facebook·NEWSPAPER HEADLINEAn exploratory research on Oru-Igbo in the Biafran struggle during ...6 Feb 2025 —

2. What happened to the property of the Igbo  in the South-West after the Nigerian Civil War?
Answer:-
Unlike in some other regions, Igbo properties in the South-West (including Lagos) were not seized by the government or local populaces. After the Nigerian Civil War ended in 1970, Igbo individuals were largely able to reclaim their houses, businesses, and landed properties in the West, with many even recovering back-rent.While the federal "Abandoned Property" decree heavily affected properties in areas like Rivers State, the Western State government maintained a policy of restitution. Key highlights regarding this post-war period include:Property Reclaimed: Igbo returnees and prominent businessmen successfully repossessed their real estate and personal assets across the South-West.Rent Compensation: In many documented cases, tenants and caretakers who managed the properties during the war paid the rightful Igbo owners their accumulated rents for the duration of the conflict.Reintegration: Many Igbo returned to their former trading and professional bases in Lagos and Ibadan immediately after the conflict to resume their businesses and reconstruct their lives.

3. Hear and see from Pete Edochie (Okonkwo in Things Fall Apart) who should know, further evidence that the typical Yoruba bear no grudge against or hate the Igbo what happened to the property of the igbo  in the South-West after the Nigerian Civil War and how a Yoruba man Col. Adekunle Fajuyi chose to die with an Igbo man Maj. General Aguiyi Ironsi who was his guest at Ibadan. I advise the Igbo to immediately set about teaching their children and their forthcoming generation truth that frees one from generational bitterness and hate!

The exact example of what Baba Chinua Achebe advised the Igbo against. Do you suppose that a typical indigene will welcome such an utterance. Give these things some thought before uttering them. Such statements breed resentment against the Igbo North, South and West of Nigeria, Ghana, South-Africa et al as the indigenous population are bound to feel that you are out to supplant them! I once lived in the South-East of Nigeria and know firsthand the Igbo will not tolerate one quarter of what they give to their hosts in Yorubaland. . Choose to be wise so you will not labour in vain. It is labour in vain if your profit does not combine with a sound and humble character that wins acceptance with your hosts.

Please be humble enough to learn. If Igbo were the largest population in the South-South why was it an Official policy in Rivers State during and after the Civil War to classify the property of the Igbo as Abandoned Property? Why? The way you are carrying on folks fear you will dominate them if you ever get to have the Presidency. You worsen matters.
