That is what am saying. It doesn't have to be like that. People should be able to get the indigene certificate of the states they were born and raised, that will promote the idea of one Nigeria more than anything. onuman: |

stuffs2002:Joke is on you and read properly b4 jumping on a reply. We are talking about indigenous rights, you are talking positions. Many individuals have taken positions accross the country, not unique to Kano. Question of indigeneity arises when same individuals now wants to represent Kano. Give me one example where Kano is represented by an igbo or yoruba in an elective position. Only yorubas had done it. Others guard that territory with thier lives! I infact think the first step is to differentiate between citizenship rights vs indigenous rights to address true federalism. |

Nword22:Stop learning Nigeria's history from the mouths of those who thought they won the civil war. Ironsi was with the military governor of southwest region when northern coup d'etat plotters killed Ironsi and the military governor of the southwest region. Therefore, regional government was there when Ironsi was killed. |

It is funny we are having this conversation and court had to be involved. Indegineship of what local governments? There are Local governments that belong to Hausa people right from before the creation of Plateau. They were under Bauchi state and were ceded to Plateaux when Plateaux was created. Unless Plateaux is ready to return those Local governments back to Bauchi, they don't have a case for claiming those people are not indigenes of Plateaux state. |

The court's judgement is constitutionally right but the question is has Nigeria advanced to that level? If going by this judgement, my mother is from Edo and my Dad from Anambra but I was born and raised in Akure Ondo State, that automatically makes me an Akure man, but most times when I try to make any sensible comment social media, name checkers will try to counter me simply because of my name, I could remember there was a benefit that was to come to me through a politician some years back, many fought me on the basis of tribe, if not that I had known that politician beyond politics, I would have lost that benefit. I just hope we'll get there someday but for now, the country is so tensed that we suspect everyone of ourselves on the basis of tribe. We are still not matured for this! |
