WHAT CHANGED? BENUE FIRST LADY: BETWEEN GOV. ALIA AND REV. FR. MOSES ADASU
During the administration of Rev. Fr. Moses Adasu as Governor of Benue State, the office of the First Lady was occupied by Mrs. Patricia Yakubu Agada, wife of his deputy, Engr. Yakubu Agada [from Otukpa], since the governor was unmarried.
Today, Governor Hyacinth Alia, who is also unmarried, has not accorded the wife of his deputy, Dr. Sam Ode, the role traditionally associated with the office.
Instead, his 'sister', Hon. Scolastica Bem-Sor, has been designated to perform functions linked to the position of First Lady.
What has changed between the Adasu era and the current administrations

The office is diversionary. Face the work you were employed for is the best way. Can the MD of a big company be appointing a first lady? The governor is just a CEO and there is no reason to have a separate budget for the office of the first lady in any constituency since such first ladies also have their own occupation

Critics point out that during the previous administration of another Catholic priest (the late Governor Moses Adasu), the wife of the Deputy Governor stepped up to handle First Lady duties. They argue Governor Alia should have given the role to the current Deputy Governor's wife, Mrs. Sam-Ode, instead of creating an appointed office for Bem-Sor. The late Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu served as the Executive Governor of Benue State from January 2, 1992, to November 17, 1993.

Governor Adasu was the very first Catholic priest in Nigerian history to contest and win a gubernatorial election under the SDP. He is popular for laying the foundation of Benue State University.

He was a reverend father that was actually performing miracles and healing the sick. People will travel for hours from all over the state to attend mass and bring water for him to bless. I'm surprised how he has turned out as governor.

Most politicians and revered elites have a wife at least. I just found out this is a Reverend Father. Most of his type dont get married and dont get into politics. His faith and beliefs wont make him marry, wich is understandable. I just thought he was a regular politician that refused to get married. My bad.

Bro! in times of delivering dividends of democracy that man stands out. Although, I have not been to Benue but with what I am seeing on social media dude is doing magnificent and incredible work. He has revamped and transformed Benue state in times of capital project execution to at least a minimum of greatness compared to some or all previous administration since democracy in the state! Indeed he has performed stupendously well. However, like humans he has his flaws like the Peter Obi saga and the selfish and sentimental appointment of his sister as the first lady instead of the deputy's wife!

It's all about the narrative. A perfectly crafted narrative for the Governor. It's about prestige. A little boost to his image, really. And a very, very good reason to make it happen.
