This is good. I hate it when you vote someone in and then they defect to another party and still keeps the position. Now with this, you go think very well before you defect. Na him make apc get all the governors dey get. This is very good. I approve
It should even be in the constitution. Just that the lawmakers know they might be affected

It is a good move. You can't just jump ship anytime you like without consequences.
A little mafia like, but fair and a good move.

manmade:
it can't stand the litmus test off law unless the constitution permits it, The Nigerian Constitution makes a distinction between legislators (members of the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly) and governors/deputy governors.
1. Members of the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly
The Constitution provides that a legislator who defects from the political party that sponsored his or her election may lose the seat.
For the National Assembly, see Section 68(1)(g) of the Constitution.
For the State House of Assembly, see Section 109(1)(g) of the Constitution.
These sections state that a member shall vacate his seat if he becomes a member of another political party before the expiration of his term unless:
There is a division in the political party that sponsored him; or
There is a merger involving that political party.
The courts have repeatedly held that the division must be a genuine and substantial division within the party, not merely personal disagreements.
2. Governors and Deputy Governors
The Constitution does not contain a similar provision requiring a governor or deputy governor to vacate office upon defection from the party that sponsored their election.
The Supreme Court has considered this issue and has generally held that a governor's mandate belongs to the electorate, and there is no constitutional provision automatically removing a governor for defecting to another party.
A governor can only leave office through constitutional means such as:
Expiration of tenure,
Resignation,
Death,
Impeachment under Section 188,
Permanent incapacity,
Or other grounds specifically provided by the Constitution.
They should sign it first, when the time comes, Nigerians will test their integrity..

What is the legal value of such a document. Anybody can sign anything but does it hold water against the law. I have my doubts.

Re: NDC Mandates Candidates To Sign Document Forcing Them To Resign If They Defect by muykem: 8:55am On Jun 17
Waste of time. This is not legally binding. Constitution has stipulated how elected officers can lose their seat. Affidavit and indemnity to the party before election is not part of it.

Why don't you wait until it's tested in the court of law?

Waste of paper and ink because ex turpi cause non oritur actio! Unconstitutional!! The Constitution already provides for the procedure to recall one elected. The voters own the mandate afforded the elected on the platform of the political party. Transactional politicians have further exposed themselves for who they really are! Could the beggarly Kenneth Okonkwo, stain and all, be right after all about the NDC 10 Million naira bribe demanded from folks who intend to contest on the NDC Platform?🧐🧐🧐

Dickson didn't come to play . It's this senseless defection that destroyed PDP and LP completely
My thoughts. That's why opposition is almost dead in nigeria.

Every party will be towing this direction soon! which make sense... that cross carpeting madness is about to end! I hope this has a constitutional backing tho. Else, it will be just a formality that will be thrown away in the court of law.

No wonder Nairaland is still like this after 21 years… if a moderator can have a shallow mindset…. Yet you want a Nigeria that works but sees this approach as waste of time.
Are you okay sire?

Especially when they won the election because of Peter Obi influence and tsunami in Labour Party, at the end they decamp to other political party.

I love how the NDC is putting their things in the right way.

I know that many who have bought the forms from NDC, will hope on Obi tsunami to win.

The document isn't even valid and can't be held against them. Waste of time and legal resources

As a moderator on nairaland forum, this forum you are now like a TV presenter or a radio presenter= Journalist, you don't take sides in politics, you needs to be neutral and transparent. You don't need to be biased.
A TV presenter don't go about hating Labour Party and loving and saying good good things on air about apc party. No you don't!!

Even if you don't live here in Nigeria with us, probably living in abroad with your family u don't seem to understand what we the Nigeria people are going through in the hands of apc government sad

As a journalist, moderator it should be live and let live!

I don't know how Seun was able to take some of you guys as moderators on his forum.

I seem to enjoy Fergie views here and one other one called Dominique!

how’s nairaland like? The biggest forum in Africa and among top five in the world, among the top five most visited local sites in Nigeria.

A mod is just a member like you that also has his own opinion.
U well so? Can you show me any online forum in the world that is doing better than nairaland?

Inasmuch as I don't like politicians jumping from one party to another, I also want NDC to know that it's because of the big fish that jumped into the party that is making the party to be on a high speed now, otherwise we won't have had so much of NDC nowooooo.

Chris Ngige and Chris Uba.

Any predatory contracts that usurp constitutional powers/provision is null and void.
