Listen to yourself! How much has the current government borrowed? Or the monies realized from the removal of subsidies? Electrical tariffs? Gas etc.

This government is just useless!
Borrowing to fill the deficit is expected to be around 23 trillion naira. (defict is 23 trillion naira)

Part of the rest of the money is what was realized from removal of subsides. Which by the tail end we were paying for by creating more debt through printing of money, borrowing to fill holes left by using revenue to pay for the thing, and even draining our reserves...to the point that effective resrves by 2023 were4 billion naira.

Electricity tarrifs are still heavily subsidsied. Band A which was supposed to help subsidsize the rest is in practice not doing so. (India has and is running something similar, which is not only not working, but power cuts are a way of life there. Now government wants to remove power subsides totally).

Gas subsides aren't enough to lower gas prices, lol.

As for subsidy removal, one more thing. If subsidy had not gone, by now the deficit would be more than our budget.

I know you are a gej fan. There is a cold reason why your man wanted to remove subsides in 2011, because his economic advisers saw what would happen if we kept them. Nigerians, egged on by tinubu said no. (And now tinubu came in and saw how bad it was. Karma, eh?)

Even then, our budget of about 40 billion dollars equivalent is still not enough. Tax to gdp is not even enough to fill the deficit.

(And actually, I wonder what government is doing sponsoring free TV. Plus, wasn';t tis thing launched ages ago?)

How do private stations like Channels TV and other private tv stations, which provide better quality service, manage to get by? Do they actually receive the level of funding you just described?
Hahaha, no.

Channels and other private TV stations get by on the money they make from DSTV and other platforms, and also funding from their rich owners, and the occasional bank loans. Advertsing.

Even then, they aren't international quality. (Arise is close to international quality, but not quite). Not at all. I have watched AIT, Channels and other international channels. The real international babas are far ahead in quality.

And they struggle. Channels keeps costs down by not employing too many people. IN the past AIT has had to let people/employees go and fought a long battle with the banks over loans.

Also, you should know that we do not have as many tv channels as we should have. TV channels are expensive to run.

The guy I was repsonding to wants NTA to be like the international standard stations, which means BBC and company.

I was talking as a neutral and typically your folks would always tilt towards GEJ etc. It’s been donkey years since GEJ has gone, yet it still the same laughable nonsensical statements from APC agents.

Was this how Nigerians were living during the PDP times? It sad how so many youths have been brainwashed with peanuts to speak positively on the state of Nigeria under this administration is the ninth wonder of the world.

The shortfalls on our gdp etc, are signs of failed policies and terrible implementation.

Haha.., how can Nigerians watch these channels? With the sun I suppose? It is obvious this government is clearly out of touch with the current state of the nation.

Use this money to buy armed drones and go after bandits and other criminals. Subsidize fuel to bring back our economy.

More than 70% of Nigerians are hungry and angry with this government. Everything they do is to siphon monies through elephant projects! Nonsense
Nah you know the village where you dey stay nah

Some people get 20-24hrs power supply daily

The moment I saw "renewed hope" I just laughed. Nothing good ever come out of this government. Make things easier for citizens,na tv you wan share. People are dying of hunger, kidnapped and killed and this is all the useless party and president could come up with. What a shame

I only mentioned GEJ in terms of why he wanted to remove subsidy, as having wanted to remove subsidy because he saw (with the help of his economists)the disaster coming if we kept it on.

And indeed we had a disaster.

If you misunderstood me, sorry.

I don't support any party, but I plan to vote for Obi next year, after a lifetime of supporting small parties.

Not commendable. Such free lunches are bad. Especially when it's from these people. They'll use it as an excuse later to quote big figures that disappeared.

Anything TV, forget am. Government no send you. Highest e go be subsidized StarTimes with their boring selection of media. God forbid. The world went digital in 2008. Naija no open mouth. DStv is the only service showing Nigerians what High Definition video looks like. In 2012, other African nations hopped on the digital spectrum. Nigeria only gave empty promises. 2026, another set of promises.

I suspect a bait to distract us from the main thing. Government is not nice to give free things. Tell me the basic needs that are free.... Why is their TV free? I am suspecting Tinubu and his team.
