The saddest part of the whole thing is that the brightest brains among the doctors have all fled the country.... What we have left are those ones carrying expo in exam Hall that know they can't survive outside the country 😭😭😭 |

We are experiencing a serious brain drain especially in the health sector . This is because many secondary school leavers who want to study Medicine and do not have the connection are being denied admissions to study their choice of course. Rather, they are given a different course. It is ONLY the rich man's child that gains admission to study Medicine. And when these rich men's children graduate, they run overseas for greener pastures in their field. |

When Nigerian Government celebrates he FX reforms and the devaluation of the Naira, I just shudder ! Based on the devalued currency (N), the Naira, it stands as the third weakest in Africa and one of the most devalued currency globally against the US Dollar. Globally, Countries devalue or re-denominate their currencies for strategic reasons like export promotion or tourist traffic attraction. However, Nigeria has shown that Devaluation can affect the eternal prosperity of it's workforce. Nigerian Doctors, Professors, Soliders and civil servants are the least paid in the world when compared in dollar equivalent making Brain Drain inevitable. The minimum wage for a month in Nigeria is $64. The least paid surgeon outside Nigeria specifically the US earns a median range of btw $500k-$1m per annum. If converted in Naira an average of N643m - N1.43B annually .Which sane person would leave this for less than N10m monthly for consultants in Nigeria. |

That's the least worries of the government...them and their families can easily access medical services abroad...what's on their mind is how to secure 2027 elections at all cost and spending trillions on fraudulent projects |

I wonder why we've more mass communication students than medicine. Both government and parents have failed. Let encourage our children to embrace science more than all these useless courses. And government should encourage universities to take more medicine than Bio chemistry or any useless courses all over the place. Japa isn't really the only problem, we can harness the foreign demand for our doctors to our advantage. |

WHO talks about about 1 doctor to 600 patients, but Naija is now somewhere around 1 doctor to 3,600–10,000 people. This definitely will increase mortality rate and reduce life span. We can now see the relationship between good healthcare and av. life span in naija. That one alone shows say our health system is in comatose. Guys please take your health seriously and do lot of preventive health measures because the govt doesn't care |

Helinuse:You and those that think like you should understand that japa is an expensive project, and there are many who desire to, but cannot afford it at this time. Beyond this, there are folks who choose to stay back home, for diverse reasons. When una dey talk like this, people go dey think say una no dey go hospitals.. Wahala dey o. |

BioData45:How is choosing mass communication as a course a sign of government failure? Also, medicine is a very selective course. One of my secondary school mates, a very bright and clever guy, got a very high JAMB score and chose medicine in UI. UI rejected him. His score was high, but not high enough for UI (Guy now works in the pharma sector and is doing very well). That's how bad it is. Even universites that favor the sons of the soil...I know one Northern university that favors northerners a lot...yet to read medicine there, you must not just be Northerner, your JAMB score must be very very very high. Nothing like 200 or less . If it is not very high, even if you bring some high powered Northern politican to beg for una, dem go still say no. ![]() That's why medicine appears to have fewer people. |
