Speaking as a doctor, the vast majority of deliveries in the hospital I have worked were not CS.

iNFACT , most deliveries are not by CS. The problem is, if your spouse goes to a teaching or general hosptial to deiliver her baby, chances are there would be more CS being done there, because of referrals from all over...and because of health risks picked up at antenatal.

I highlighted two points, when you interview many children in the locality about what they want to become, they only mention random things they've heard from friends or society. Not something their parents are telling and preparing them for. Parents need to do more.

Family ties, businesses, belief in Nigeria, weather, etc. Some are still in Nigeria because they want to reach a certain level of practice, like being an SR or consultant first. This comes with its pecks.

No, doesn't require billions. But requires millions of naira, and MANY cannot afford this.

1. Not everyone wants to read medicine.

2. Not everyone wants to listen to what their parents want them to do. My parents wanted my brother to join me in doing medicine. He said no, and chose a career in IT.

3. If you got to blame government, blame the local ministry of education for not training enough career guidance folk.

I beg to disagree.
When COS was being handed out like bday jollof by the UK, Express entry by Canada and Skilled Worker by the USA, only English language countries were targeted.
A medical doctor who studied in French has no pathway to japa that is why na Nigerian, Ghana, Iranian, Philippines, Pakistan and Indian doctors beaucoup from UK to Canada to USA to Australia, Zealand, KSA, UAE, Oman and Bahrain.
I can tell you for free that there are lots of Nigerian doctors with their private clinics practicing in neighboring Cameroon but you can't find a single Cameroon doctor in the whole of Nigeria.
The doctor shortage in Nigeria can't be better than French speaking African countries Mr. Subsidy grin

I swear, I remember one girl doctor ( she never reach woman) dey google my complaint for computer for one hospital for Garki ( make I no call the name) . As she no see wetin she dey find, she excuse herself go the next door go they ask the doctor for there. 🤣

I just tell myself say any drugs or injections she recommends, I no go take am lai lai

Medicine is competitive and cut off mark is well above 320

Ordinary people still score those high marks.

Besides, admission quota for many universities Medical schools has doubled in the past one year or so.

Even people from average background who graduate from the course are also looking for how to migrate.

9 out of 10 doctors in Nigeria, if the money and opportunity is available, will japa, whether from rich background or not.

omoh you guys are trying oh. Doctor ms pay is too meagre. My uncle is a doctor in a federal teaching hospital for 7 years nothing to show for it. No wife,bike,or a plot of land. He has no life of his outside the hospital. I'm beginning to think doctors reward is in heaven too oh

Not true.
Many doctors still practising in Nigeria are struggling with the financial implications of japa.

Additionally, there are many doctors who have gotten licence to practice overseas but yet to secure jobs.. The best graduating student in my class is a resident in orthopaedic surgery and has gotten UK licence.She didn't carry expo in exam hall and can survive anywhere in the world.

Meanwhile, my son scored 293/400 in the last UTME, has SSCE full of As and Bs, yet has a chance of not entering for his first choice of Medicine simply because he's from the Southwest, and has less than 300/400, abi?

Francophone doctors in Africa with degrees from non-EU universities must follow the PADHUE (Praticien Diplômé Hors Union Européenne) pathway. To work in France, they must pass the EVC (Épreuves de Vérification des Connaissances), complete 3 years of supervised hospital practice, and secure official authorization

Getting into medicine has never been easier than now. The academic standard has dropped drastically compared to a decade and a half ago, there are more Unis offering med surg especially the private ones and the MDCN doubled quotas sometime ago.

Truth is people have realized that the medical profession is a glorified profession in this country where you work more but earn less angry

Why waste 6 years plus and start hustling for japa money when you can do tech and be making cool cash here in Nigeria.
