UI Law Student, 7 Others Abducted While Returning From Scripture Union Conference

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Ibadan has confirmed that a 300-level female law student, identified as Tomisin, was among eight people reportedly abducted while returning from a national conference organised by the Scripture Union Student Fellowship.

According to the union, the victims were travelling back to Ibadan after attending the Scripture Union Student Fellowship National Conference held at the Camp of Faith in Okigwe, Imo State, when communication with them was suddenly lost. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
Missing Student Identified

Tomisin, who serves as the National Secretary of the Scripture Union Student Fellowship, Nigeria, is also the Vice President of the fellowship’s University of Ibadan chapter.

In a statement released on Friday, the President of the University of Ibadan SUG, Mr. Temidayo Adeboye, said the student was travelling alongside the National General Director of the fellowship, Mr. Uwem Cosmos, and other conference participants when the incident occurred.

SUG Clarifies Viral Reports

Adeboye clarified that reports circulating on social media claiming that eight University of Ibadan students were abducted are inaccurate.

According to him, Tomisin is the only student of the University of Ibadan currently unaccounted for in the incident.

We wish to clarify that reports claiming that eight UI students are missing are inaccurate. Tomisin is the only University of Ibadan student currently unaccounted for in the incident,” he stated.

The SUG President explained that concerns over her safety increased after she failed to appear for her faculty examinations scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.

He added that another student of the university from the Department of Music, who also attended the conference, has since returned safely.
University Reacts

The University of Ibadan management has also acknowledged the incident.

The institution’s Director of Public Relations, Mrs. Joke Akinpelu, confirmed that the university was aware of the situation but noted that the student did not officially notify the institution about her trip before travelling.

She reiterated that Tomisin was the only UI student involved in the incident, contrary to widespread reports suggesting that eight students of the university had been abducted.

“The student left the university without officially notifying the institution of her destination,” she said.
Efforts Underway to Secure Release

The Students’ Union Government disclosed that it has initiated discussions with relevant religious organisations and security agencies to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident and facilitate appropriate intervention.

Meanwhile, students, members of the Scripture Union fellowship, and concerned Nigerians have continued to call for prayers and urgent efforts to secure the safe release of the victims.

The incident has once again raised concerns over the security situation on Nigerian highways and the safety of travellers moving across different parts of the country.

Nigerian religious fanatics NEVER learn that Papa God ONLY protects those who use common sense by avoiding non-essential road travel in ALL parts of Nigeria, among other common sense precautions.

In this age of FREE video conferencing, there is NO logical reason why any person should embark on a long road journey in Nigeria, for ANY type of gathering, be that religious, social or political.

Now the kidnapped Scripture Union road travelers will be shouting for Jesus to save them, while in the hands of bloodthirsty Islamist terror gang members who reserve their most excruciating torture for people who call out Jesus name in their times of trauma.

Anyone with an iota of common sense, and of self-preservation, would have understood years ago that Nigeria is NOT a country where non-essential road travel is a good idea.

Really stupid to go for unnecessary road travel in Nigeria at this moment.

I really pity those who HAVE TO make essential road trips for academics, commerce etc. and can't afford plane tickets. But this trip is totally non essential.

Don't be ridiculous. Crime has nothing to do with going to place of worship. Unfortunately, people have been kidnapped going to school, work, market and even in their houses.

another student of the university from the Department of Music, who also attended the conference, has since returned safely.

Your unessential travel is another person's essential travel. Be kind and pray for their rescue. It's the government that has failed its citizens.

If you had taken a few minutes to read the text, you'd have seen that the subject is a national officer of the union. so it's very likely that her attendance was unavoidable.

If those pilgrims had contacted their church by video call, they would not be facing possible torture and death in a demonic forest right now. One can only hope the horrific fate likely to be meted out to these Jesus freaks will serve as a lesson to others.

They were traveling from Okigwe. Turning this into a religious, or tribal or political banter doesn't solve anything. Only highlights a low IQ

Jehovah did this one. Jehovah you watched your children get kidnapped this way, after promising them safety all over the bible. Why na Jehovah? This can only be happening if truly Jehovah is in a spiritual cage as Otem declared. undecided

Going for a church event doesn't make you a freak. People travel every day in Nigeria for different purposes. People also died in their houses this morning. Be reasonable.

The report no too clear

where were they kidnapped? which road? which state?

How did they know they were kidnapped?

How come one of the UI students returned but the other didn't?

It doesn't matter whether the kidnapped church members are national officers or international grand exalted cyclops of the known universe.

They displayed appallingly bad judgement and abandoned common sense entirely by embarking on a long road trip in a country that is in the throes of an undeclared WAR. The totally predictable outcome arising from that reckless disregard of common sense is what we are now reading about online, with the worst possibly yet to come.

I am praying for their release but experience has taught me that Papa God NEVER responds to my prayers UNLESS I think for myself and take common sense precautions FIRST.

You think time will come when these Islamists from the Sahel region will stop?
They are gunning to get Islamic Republic of Nigeria to be governed with Sharia criminal laws. The same formula the Taliban used in Afghanistan 🇦🇫 until they won America and its allies, thereafter, imposed sharia criminal justice system upon all in Afghanistan

A lot of people in the south do not understand that the bandits, Boko Haram, ISWAP, ISIS, Armed Fulani herdsmen, and extremists in the 12 sharia states of northern Nigeria share the same objective. The objective is to get Islamic Republic of Nigeria to be governed with Sharia criminal justice system.
