The NDC is made up of serial party hoppers from APGA, APC, PDP, LP and other parties; ideologically deficient politicians; out-of-favour political figures; and strange bedfellows pretending to be an opposition movement and masquerading as champions of democracy, all in a bid to regain power and continue enjoying its spoils. Nothing differentiates them. What we are witnessing is some deluded supporters trying to sanctimoniously portray them as different from others and elevate them as champions of democracy, when in reality they are no better, and perhaps even worse than the very people they are criticising. Ironically, the same factors that brought these strange bedfellows together may ultimately become their undoing. |

Moroccoguy:You hit the nail bro! Obi and his supporters go try calm down atleast, let him stop jumping from one party to another. Looking at how destabilized labor party looks currently, you won't blame NDC. Politics is not a game for the weak, all these people including sam amadi should quit all these gaslighting, they fully understand the dynamics of politics in Nigeria. I'm glad NDC is holding on to a strict rule, they can't give Obi and his supporters the platform to contest. OBIdients care more about Obi than the platform giving them the privilege to contest, that's very selfish if you ask me! NDC has every right to weaponize obidient's selfish interests for their own gains too. That's politics for you! |

That makes no sense. As long as d constitution did not forbid them. The right of association defends anyone intending to decamp |

Even when the policy is unconstitutional? FYI, used diapers are worth more than the paper that illegal agreement is signed on. A mandate is given to an individual and not a party. A party is just a vehicle, nothing more. You can discard the vehicle and take your mandate to another vehicle. If you doubt it, ask all those who decamped from LP to NDC. Why did NDC not reject them? Senator Victor Umeh defected from LP to ADC to NDC within 1 year ooo let me not talk about PO - the GWR holder for defection, the same NDC excluded him from the agreement. Hypocrisy is that you? SlavaUkraini:If not for the defections from Labor party, the party would have been strong by now, defections weakens the party, if NDC doesn't win the general election, but can win some states, Senate, house of Rep and state assembly positions, the.party can work on that and grow from there but when people come win elections and move to another party, it weakens the party, defections should stop and that would make our democracy grow and strong,.look at PDP defections destroyed the party. As we speak PDP has no governor, |

It will strengthen our democracy. Now you're talking Arsenal cannot win EPL and you carry the trophy to Chelsea when you move.Arsenal doesn't win The players do That is why it's in their resume as winning in different clubs Defect from NDC and vacate their victory seat simple!not simple unless you're a legislator So says the Constitution |

Moroccoguy:You are right. it is not . here is why. Can a Political Party Amend the Constitution? The Legal Trouble with the NDC's Anti-Defection Policy by CharlesCNG The National Democratic Coalition's (NDC) proposed anti-defection policy may be politically attractive, but it raises a more fundamental question: can a political party impose consequences that the Constitution itself does not contemplate? The answer, at least from a constitutional standpoint, appears to be no. Section 1 of the 1999 Constitution declares the Constitution supreme. Any arrangement inconsistent with it is void to the extent of that inconsistency. In other words, political parties cannot create a parallel constitution through affidavits, indemnity forms or internal agreements. The Constitution itself has already spoken on defections. Sections 68 and 109 specify the circumstances under which legislators may lose their seats. Outside those provisions, the courts have consistently upheld the constitutional right to freedom of association, including the right to join or leave a political party. This means that while the NDC is perfectly entitled to discipline defectors, deny them future tickets or expel them from the party, compelling automatic resignation from public office through contractual undertakings is of doubtful legality. Indeed, the irony is striking. In attempting to cure the disease of political prostitution, the NDC may be prescribing a remedy that itself runs afoul of constitutional principles. The larger question therefore remains: Can a political party, by internal fiat, impose stricter penalties than the Constitution itself permits? If the answer is no, then the proper remedy lies not in party rules, but in constitutional amendment. For in a constitutional democracy, parties are creatures of the Constitution—not its masters. |
