Suspected Gunmen Attack Ekiti Police Station, Set Vehicles Ablaze Ahead of Governorship Election

Tension has gripped parts of Ekiti State after suspected armed assailants attacked a police station in Oye Local Government Area, injuring two officers and destroying property less than 24 hours before the state's governorship election.

According to reports, the attackers stormed the Isan Police Station on Friday evening, opening fire and setting several vehicles within the premises ablaze. Images from the scene showed charred vehicles and sections of the station damaged by the incident.

Security sources confirmed that two police officers sustained injuries during the attack and are currently receiving medical attention. Authorities have yet to announce any arrests, while investigations into the motive behind the assault remain ongoing.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over election security in Ekiti State as residents prepare to cast their votes. Although officials have not linked the attack to political activities, its timing has fueled speculation and anxiety among citizens.

Political observers warn that attacks on security facilities during election periods could undermine public confidence and discourage voter participation. Others insist that security agencies must intensify patrols and intelligence gathering to prevent further disruptions.

The Ekiti State Police Command has assured residents that adequate measures are being put in place to guarantee a peaceful electoral process and urged citizens to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel.

As voters head to the polls, many residents hope the unfortunate incident will not overshadow the democratic exercise or deter people from exercising their civic rights.

What gunmen? This happened yesterday night angry community guy set that place on fire because one of the community boys die there. The video of the incident is everywhere as they’re shouting and destroying it. They video it live as they’re all screaming we don’t need police here again who connect the incident to politics. We need to do something about fake news in this country before it gets out of hand

I learned the police attached to the police station killed a guy in that community and the people of the community decided to burn down the station.
So it is not gun men, Nairaland should confirm the authenticity of any news before bringing it to the public.
