The Nigerian power sector would soon be like the water sector, where everyone is in charge of their own electricity with the popularity of solar inverters. Nigerians are not expecting any miracle in the power sector anymore, and unfortunately it would lead to more problems for the GENCOs in the area of revenue generation as fewer people are paying for electricity while the majority are opting for solar inverters. |

My bit is that provision of electricity should be local.... owned and operated by the private sector .. but regulated by the State. As in open bid to provide electricity for Lagos ... these are the requirements ... these are the penalties for disruptions.. etc. The bid goes up.. the winner gets the contract ... the price per KW agreed by the State and entity. Any price increase has to approved by the State. Laws governing theft of electricity... hefty fines etc.. will make everybody step in line. The country is too vast... too insecure to have a national network |

1stly Nigerians don't need free power. Nobody hit the streets protesting n demanding free electricity. 2. Before buhari Left, be signed new electric bill into law where states can generate, transmit n distribute power. That law is ineffective today across the country, a serious country with intelligent leaders would have worked towards seeing that law becomes reality. Instead some states prefer spending monies on mass wedding, feeding of citizens after fasting, other numerous frivolity that zap funds out of state purse. Monies that supposed to be utilized for serious n vital projects like electric Generation. R u aware the previous nnpc board looted 210 trillion naira which they can't account for it, it is in their audited edition. 210 trillion can kick start the liberation of states depending on TCN from transmitting power to their discos. We have 36 states, 6 or 7 already have functional power plants, invest 2Trillion naira each to the remaining 29 states as loans on 0 percent interest, in 5yrs we will be self sufficient in power generation. |

LordReed:Well, the phone and internet sector had the same issues as our electricity now, until companies were allowed to charge cost reflective tarrifs. NO one is going to invest in a sector where over 80% of consumers are not paying for the power they consume at a cost reflective level. You won't see return on investment. And you will pull out. That's why Glo is working, and indigenous discos are suffering. And again, see what Prof Nnaji said. Has nothing to do with cabals. And the West would even want us to have light 24/7. Because it would make Nigeria another place to outsource their manufacturing to, ditto China and Japan. Keeping costs of making things down. Nothing like cabals...if there was cabals, why would they let us have working telecom, now petroleum, and not light? |

I don't believe that same nigerians that spend heavily to fuel their gen sets daily and also install solar systems in their homes and places of work can't afford high electric tariffs just make the power available first to ordinary nigerians let's see if this ur theory is actually true. |

helinues:whst do mean you come up with solutions, the solution templates are long in market naw. we are a population of over200m people, our national power capacity is below 5MW and in the generation mechanism we have more obsolete that modern mechanism in place the next is our transmitting network and transformers ... even if their is power generated in excess they can't transmit it for long with packing off these are the core problem, Fix them and light will be stable |

After the Siemens electricity contract sign during the COVID-19 era of 2020, we are yet to have improved power or megawatts above 10000watts...... This country tire me oo |

poiZon:Well, from the way over 60% of people on meters bypass electricity, and most of them are not even on Band A, I think otherwise 2. Before buhari Left, be signed new electric bill into law where states can generate, transmit n distribute power.States can't generate electricity profitably, unless they charged everyone about N210 or above per kwh. Also, they can't attract investors because government rules keep prices artifically low for the majority. And then see my above point. Result....problems. TInubu was running away from reality with that law. R u aware the previous nnpc board looted 210 trillion naira which they can't account for it, it is in their audited edition.[/quote]1.It takes time to recover lost money. See how the recovery of abacha loot has gone about. Meanwhile, are we to remain in darkness until we see the 210 trillion 2. We need something like 10 trilloon-14 trillion naira annually to fix electricity to a level where it would keep the lights on for those connected to the grid. 2 trillion no dey do shishi. 3. Cost reflective tarrifs, or sane investors no go drop money. 4. It's effing painful, but it is what it is. There is a reason why we have working GSM and why our markets and provision stores are full to the brim with product. No one is forcing them to sell below profitable price. |

imagine news from leadership news paper, a press that put up on their Facebook page that a hr manager of a company stole a car and the news is not on their website, it was removed, and U call leadership newspaper credible? bunch of crackers , U expect Peter Obi to tell U how he's going to archive it so U will all steal his idea, vote him first and if he doesn't deliver, we vote him out |

Power generation in Nigeria is very very possible, we just have thieves and rogues at the helm of affairs. Infact we have all it takes to generate 24hours power supply uninterrupted. I lived in jebba, kwara state some years back, you will be shocked that , Nigeria can have uninterrupted power supply for a full week.. We used to off the fridge because of the freezing rate of the freezer. Nigeria is so blessed with everything in this world but we have cursed leaders. Once they attain power They become cursed. |

bottlenecks are being removed and unbundled, and transmission, generation and distribution is now open to all. In few years, it'll be much better without anyone making silly promises of have faith in me like some divinity. |

This op and his warped mentality. Who told you Nigerians are not ready to pay cost reflective tariffs for electricity? MTN once sold SIM cards in Nigeria for 30k+ and people bought them. But MTN invested heavily in infrastructure to make their services available in almost all nooks and crannies of Nigeria. Electricity distribution companies wants to reap from where they did not sow. You want to collect cost reflective tariffs just like telecoms companies, but you want same customers to handle you responsibilities of providing meters, transformers, electric poles, and other infrastructural electric distribution materials by themselves no be juju be that? Na customer dey fund or maintain network masts for MTN, Glo, and Airtel? Provide the infrastructure and people will be very much ready to pay for your services, because a cost reflective tariff of #209.50 per unit is still way cheaper, than fueling your generator. |

Mrexcell:And that can only be possible if there is a cost reflective tarrif, because, it would bring investors running, like bees to sugar water. Unless you want government to borrow half our current budget every year for the next several years...because that is what it takes to give us light 24/7, and only for the people on the grid, not for all Nigerians. |

Give tinubu next 1000yrs Nigeria will even be worst, but i don't blame him i blame those urchins that sing his praises. You can't give what you don't have, tinubu is a superlative failure, fantastically good in failing |
| Re: Why Power Supply May Never Improve In Nigeria. by nairalanda1(op): 2:12pm On Jun 21 |
benardtotti:So, why hasn't he made tarrifs cost reflective? It's kind of ironic that in one breath you praise tinubu for removing fuel subsidy, which most nigerians opposed, then praise him for keeping power subsides that also were not working, due to 'it's what the people want' Lack of consistency is not a vote winner. |

wellmax:What is simple and straightforward about this story, which is at variance with what All Promises Cancelled, APC’s Tinubu and Buhari achieved since 2015, like Fashola bragged when Jagaban of Borgu was begging his fellow northerner to make Jonathan a one term president? This was four years after the master strategist said that Buhari was an expired old soldier. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lba6Uf64Ogc?si=2rTkeRtgwi5hJF8q pendy79:

nairalanda1:I don't know where you got the assersio that nigerian see energy as a free stuff. We pay heavily for electricity. In fact I pay an average of 35k monthly on electricity. That is for my household only. So how is it free? Please stop giving us misleading topic to support your tinubu covertly. PO said he would improve power and that he would do using the revenue from the sector. Tinubu had increased electricity bill to 10time, yet nothing to show for it. Tinubu can't fix any single thing in nigeria. |
