Jeremy Doku Criticised Over Plan To Leave Belgium Camp For Birth Of Child by TruthHurts1(op): 12:06pm On Jun 21
Winger Jeremy Doku has been criticised for saying he wants to leave Belgium's World Cup camp to be with his wife when she gives birth to their first child.

Doku's wife Shireen is due to give birth during the second week of July and he intends to return home even if the Red Devils are still in the tournament, which would then be at the quarter-final stage.

"It's my first child, so I ‌would definitely want to be there," the Manchester City forward, 24, told Reuters, external.

"If you ask me what I want, my answer is that nobody wants to miss the birth of their first child. But I also know that football involves many other considerations.

"I know the federation supports its players and understands their situations. We'll see what we can do."

However, Doku's plan to leave the USA and return home has brought fierce criticism from L'Equipe channel presenter France Pierron, who labelled a father "completely useless" at the time of their child's birth.

"The World Cup is an incredible joy," she said in a message posted to the Facebook page of French sports publication L'Equipe.

"There are hundreds of footballers who would kill to be in your shoes. It might never happen again in your life.

"You're living out a childhood dream, yet you're going to walk away from it all to attend the birth of your child - a disgusting moment, if you'll pardon the expression, where the dad is completely useless."

Those criticising him are bitter and don't know what family is about. They are either not loved or don't know what love is.

Congratulations on the arrival of your son Jeremy. Family first no matter what

Doku is very important to this Belgium team. The guy was magical for city last season.
The writer is just expressing his frustrations at losing such a key player at such crucial time of a tournament not to occur again till after 4 years

The undiluted truth.

The coach should never play him again!

He should not have gone and stayed with his madam...

Why should he start what he knew he won't finish?

He wants to eat his cake and still have it. Half leg here, half leg there equals neither here nor there!

When he leaves, let the reporter come and play in his place.

Phil Foden left the English camp during Euro 2024 to return home for the birth of his third child.
Kingsley Coman left his national squad at the European Championship in 2021 (and again in 2024) to attend the births of his children.

Fabian Delph left the team's camp during the World Cup in 2018 in Russia to be with his wife for the birth of his child.

If he wants to leave, he will leave and there's nothing they can do about it. Na football team, no be cult.

This doesn't make sense. You knew your wife was expectant yet you answered the national call.

Well, his life, his choice.

If Belgium missed a player like that
That means they are average team.
He is very very average
Nothing special about him

What a rubbish excuse!

Imagine a soldier saying he'll abandon his duties (and comrades) at the front line to witness the birth of his first child.

I was only fortunate to witness the birth of my first child because I was at home on that day. Even at that, the hospital staff sent me out at the crucial moment when I couldn't stop pacing around the ward.

But you see the birth of my second child, that one was magical. I woke up in the morning, turned on my phone and called my wife to ask after her. And she casually announce to me that she had put to birth. I thought she was joking until the messages started flying in. Apparently, she put to bed in the middle of the night while I was snoring away my tiredness (from work).

Child birth is a wonderful moment no doubt, but a soldier must never abandon his duty post or his comrades at the front line.

Kukuma sack him so he can love and be with his family for a long long time

So selfish from him, no patriotism, your country is struggling to survive, a whole population of millions and family which you can always get to see anytime on videos is what’s more important to you, insanity.
Re: Jeremy Doku Criticised Over Plan To Leave Belgium Camp For Birth Of Child by Emaprince: 2:45pm On Jun 21
I would go for the birth of my child too.

But then, it was very selfish of him to join the worldcup squad. I believe that before now, it would ve clear to him and his partner that there child qill be coming soon, and will fall into the worldcup period. So joining the belgium squad was a selfish and disruptive move by him.

Now coachs tactics and high hopes in him will be shattered
Re: Jeremy Doku Criticised Over Plan To Leave Belgium Camp For Birth Of Child by Sirleo05: 2:46pm On Jun 21
the manner and approach of everybody criticizing doku is wrong. what they could have done was to show support and encourage him, and make him see reasons to stay and continue playing for the country, knowing fully well that he has his rights and should respect it,rather they choose to condemn him.
dis world self, like the saying, ' scratch my back, and I will scratch yours.

Why did he leave in the first place? He should have stayed back since his wife was heavily pregnant and date was due.

So, you turned off your phone while your wife was in labour about to birth your second child? No wonder it was "magical" for you. undecided
