i will never discourage anyone from relocating to lagos but the thing is 'what do u want to do in lagos'?
what occupation or profession do u want to venture into to earn a living?
forget about the population in lag, its way better than the rest of the states in nigeria because of its abundance of opportunities

Forget about every negative jabs about Lagos. Lagos is the UK or United States of Nigeria therefore there is great opportunities in Lagos more than any other states because almost all the indigens of every states of Nigeria resides in Lagos.

I was born in Lagos, schioled in Lagos and still living in my own personal house in Lagos after having travelled out several times. Although, some parts of Lagos are know for crimes but that depends on your personal lifestyles. There are good security in Lagos as well because we have funtioning police force , local force (OPC), Nigerian Legion etc.

Do not listen to fears but listen to your heart because your heart is where God speaks to you if the thought is coming constantly. However, keep applying for job online and always visit Newspaper vendors for jobs advert. Also do not leave your current job until you can get a new one in Lagos. If you have time you can visit cities like Ikeja, Victoria Island, Gbagada, etc and hold copies of your CV (visits from Mondays to Wednesdays). You can do this once in a month while you stay in a cheap hotel for the duration of your visit.

The only thing to fear is fear itself .

Note: If you are a christian you can visit churches like RCCG, MFM, Celestial church , Anglican church etf for temporary accommodation help during your visit if you dont mind. If you are a muslim many mosque will allow you to sleep during your 3 days visit. This is your last resort for accommodation if you cannot affors hotel for the 3 days visit .
Yes you can relocate on the condition that you won't come back tomorrow to claim that you develop Lagos lol

Everyone on here can witness that you brought nothing except your degree or skill to Lagos.
Re: Should I Relocate To Lagos by Livequiz: 9:17am On Jun 22
Lagos is a great place but accommodation is one of the big issue here except if you have where to stay. Also securing job before moving is better.

If you can easily adapt to environment, Lagos will accommodate you.

Hello everyone,

I’ll be turning 25 in July, and as I approach this milestone, I’ve been thinking seriously about my next big step in life.

I currently live in Kaduna with my parents and have a stable, comfortable life. I work as a teacher and also earn additional income from research writing and occasional website development gigs. I hold a Second Class Upper (2:1) degree in Biochemistry and consider myself fairly tech-savvy.

Lately, I’ve been feeling that it’s time to challenge myself and pursue bigger opportunities. Lagos keeps coming to mind because of the career prospects, networking opportunities, and the fast-paced environment that seems ideal for personal and professional growth.

My biggest challenge is accommodation. I don't currently have a place to stay in Lagos, and that uncertainty is making the decision difficult.

For those who have made a similar move, especially from northern Nigeria to Lagos, would you advise taking the leap? How did you handle accommodation and the initial transition? Do you think moving to Lagos could be a worthwhile investment in my future?

I’m considering making this move as a birthday gift to myself and would really appreciate your advice, experiences, and suggestions.

Thank you.
If the place you are is safe
Please stay there
Lagos is overhyped, you will spend most of your earnings here paying rent, feeding, etc. It is a trap.
Again, if where u are is safe, stay there

Did I hurt your feelings? I'm sorry. You already have enough smart answers up there. Too much smart answers can somewhat confuse you so it's fine. I hope you make the right decision at the end of the day.

ANAMBRA is a good place

That is the new Nigeria Peter OBI promised you and I.

Now that Peter OBI is the president,Go to Anambra to have a taste of what New Nigeria post Peter OBI will look like.

May Anambra happened to Nigeria

So that we will not be seeing Thread of seeking to move to Anambra like this
To put it into perspective, the people of Peter Obi's Anambra are running away everyday to cities in Yoruba land.

Lagos the great city has been turned into something else.

Even the Obi of Onitsha (humiliatingly) had to come and celebrate his 85th in far away Yoruba land as he couldn't stay at home.

But as a northerner you are welcomed in Lagos. Dangote has been a very good ambassador for you.

Some key points occured to me reading your enquiry.

1. It is time for you to make a bold step beyond your present

2. Is Lagos a viable to pursue your next step

3. Currently you are not doing so bad

4. Asking whose made the move before and how they countered the issue of accomodations which seems like a block to the thought process hitherto reaching it's point of decision.

In non chronological order, I will try to address it as much as I can from my experience

First is accomodations..
Moving or relocation is a big step no matter how small the shift is. It doesn't matter if you are moving uptown or imbedding yourself in the home system and seeing the benefits it can offer you..
accomodations is one thing you will have to deal with either you like it or not. Even if you do have someone to stay with wherever you intend to continue your quest for growth and accomplishment, it is only temporary as eventually you will need to source a place of your own and not overstay your welcome.

Second is, cognitively you are starting to realize it is time for you to make your own mark on the world or in this case shaping your own world and is Lagos a viable place for such a move. My honest opinion will be that it can be starting point but not a destination given the academic foundation you already have. Biochemistry is not a small feat. It is up there with the most needed aspect of any functioning society be it undeveloped, developing, or developed nations. The advantages you have infront of you is limitless, however proper aggregation of that resources is very paramount. For example, in Lagos, you can gain experience working or interning for some medium pharmaceutical company, horning your experiences in practical fields and understanding the market you are building your future with. Experience matters, and broad experiences even much more better.. Lagos networking circle encompass the whole of Nigeria. If you can make a name for yourself in Lagos or get a strong foothold, conquering Nigeria is more or less like 40% done. However Lagos is not the only place you can get a jump start into your desired destination.

Which brings the third point into focus as to you feeling now is the time to push forward, that I do belief is a matter of conceptualization and context.. it doesn't matter if you are still in Kaduna, or moving to Lagos what matters is your own interpretation of what that next step is..

And lastly you are doing okay, where you are at the moment. Which will make me advise that you take it one step at a time. You can come to Lagos for a week or two, see how things are, endeavor to network with people in your field, even with social media it makes it easier. And if you are not a social media kind of person, check list 5 companies you see yourself making an introduction to, get in their door, meet guys or even ladies that you are both in the same field, understand the proper workings of Lagos from them so you can easily mitigate when in case you do make the move. Having a ground network of 2 or 3 friends already even before moving goes a long way cutting out weeks and months of uncertainties.

Having said all these, conclusively I'd say it's not whether Lagos will work out well, but rather what won't make Lagos work out well.

When you iron those out, you get a clear shot at your next milestone, be it further advancement in your knowledge or using your prowess as a viable building block that it is.

With much regards. Wish you well and may your endeavors be favored

Bro, I stay in Kaduna also, I'm 26 years old, a computer science student graduate and I'm into tech. I'm a full stack web developer, and I leverage AI tools. Also working towards being an email market experts (seems it's a hot niche now).
So you see, we're in almost same shoe.
Personally, wouldn't advise you to move so fast, atleast make the internet your environment just like one user said.
Currently I take online gigs, I have a small remote job and I also work as a data analyst here in Kaduna. (Although the pay ain't too fat) But it's pays my bills and I live a bit comfortable since standard of living is relatively cheaper here.

I still take crash courses online to upgrade myself, learn how to leverage AI tools in all aspects while build and add to my portfolio.
Nevertheless I keep applying online for a better role remotely that offers a better pay.
Once secured, I can comfortably leave Kaduna and go to a better state in search for more opportunities and build connections.

My plan is relocating to Abuja soon as things get better for me.

hey i am glad you have a job that brings in an income no matter how little, also you have a side hustle atimes what you imagine is not what there is, if you are ready for chaos, craziness and atimes daylight cheating and robbery by service providers, landlords, vendors, and a system whereby you work a nine to five and pour the money back into the nine to five come to lagos but if you are business minded and you have dutch courage you can survive any challenge you are welcome,my advise come for a short visit and see a preview of coming attractions, then make your decision.

That's a greate advise, me too i live in the North and i work as a software engineer for a edtech company in lagos even though the pay was no that big but i stay in my location so things are abit cheap and also i keep searching for remote roles and gigs online.
So as he mention tech try that approach becouse living in lagos is so expensive as my work friends used to tell me.

Coming to Lagos would be a mistake.
As a teacher the highest salary you would get is 100k and that's a reputable private school.and you need to have mad connection or you need to be extra ordinary good for you to get it.

2.as a tech savvy, lagosians will price you low like you they are doing you a favour.you won't really get value for your service.

3.cost of accommodation, bills and feeding will drain you.and at the end of the day you will need loan to survive

Don't move to Lagos for now, you said that you are tech-savvy. I think that means that you want to move your career to InfoTech. Please do that from Kaduna while you have a stable roof and support system over your head. When you become tech competent, and you get a job that requires relocating to Lagos. You can move to Lagos. Lagos house rent, fast pace of life, and traffic are not smiling

If your mind is in Lagos state, my advice to you is based on my 15 years experience in Lagos.
Lagos life is not a piece of cake, you must be tough enough to live and survive. Transition to work or business area is another dimension, its a lifestyle you must get used to. If you are not the type that wakes up early (3am, 4am or atmost 5am) then Lagos is not for you. You must be the type that can endure long hours in traffic. Salary is good in Lagos, business is booming, however, you must be ready to sacrifice half of it on transportation depending on your location. Some companies provide accommodation for their staff while others dont. Since this is your first time and you dont have accommodation yet, i will advice you to start looking for job with accommodation. This way, you will be able to save enough money to rent your apartment within your workplace. Lagos is a big city, over-populated as well. Anyone who can live in Lagos, will survive any part of the world.

Do you work online as a teacher or Nigerian employed teacher.
Learn from my mistake.
The biggest mistake you can make is to rent house without first securing job.
First secure job in lagos.
Find someone to stay with in a year or 6 months before renting your own house to understand lagos environment.
You might rent house first and issues might arise. .landlord problem , renting house where there is no light ,water or network
Water can be found in the desert. shocked

OP, get a similar teaching job in Lagos before making the final move and do as this fellow outlined after securing the job. It reduces costs and eases settling down in the state. You are very young, so bite the bullet and go ahead.
