There was no malicious 'intent' whatsoever in that tackle. There have been a few of such tackles already in this Worldcup and none has registered more than a caution.

For you to be protected to win three world cups, you need to have a good supporting cast. If the other players are not good enough to support Messi, FIFA can only do little of their best and leave the rest to them.

Before you say the tackle is red, the referee looks at two things; 1. Intent. 2. How high the boot was raised. If that was a sliding tackle, then you can say the boot was raised dangerously high but that is a standing position!!!! That is at most a yellow ccard offense!!

Now take a look at this picture and all tackles happened in the same world cup, but no red card was given.
