One of the saddest spectacles of the 2023 election was not political. It was ecclesiastical. The pulpit, which ought to have pointed men to Christ, became a platform for prophecies, visions and political predictions. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome famously recounted how an angel informed him that the winner's name could be found in the Bible. Many Christians, with alarming certainty, concluded that heaven had endorsed Peter Obi. Yet, heaven has a curious habit of refusing to become a campaign office. If Pastor Chris heard “a name in Scripture,” one wonders why the interpreters rushed to Peter as if heaven had issued a Labour Party membership card. In the Abrahamic world, names travel: Maryam/Mary, Dauda/David, Ibrahim/Abraham, Musa/Moses — and Ahmad itself carries scriptural weight in Islamic tradition. Maybe the angel whispered; maybe partisans translated. one wonders whether certainty arrived long before wisdom. More importantly, shepherds have no right to say, "Thus saith the Lord," where the Lord has not spoken. Jeremiah 23:21 contains a fearful warning: "I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran; I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied." The issue was never Peter Obi. It was the dangerous temptation to convert personal preferences into divine decrees. The tragedy is that when the prediction failed, heaven's reputation suffered more than politics. As 2027 approaches, the Church must remember that pastors are shepherds, not campaign managers. For the pulpit belongs to our Lord Jesus Christ. And woe unto the shepherd who mistakes it for a political podium. |

CharlesCNG:For someone who watched a video we all watched to now claim Pastor Chris said Peter Obi was going to win the election is a disgrace! The man of God talked about the three candidates, and said one of the candidate's name is in the bible and prayed, "Lord give him wings to fly" because he was afraid of wining. These things we saw after the election, Peter Obi was timid and crying on national TV, a disgrace for an opposition leader. It's like crying in front of your cheating girlfriend... ![]() The ruling party already saw he was a weak man, who wouldn't sacrifice much to lead this nation. Do you really think, if the grace was on Adams Oshiomole, he would have been rigged out easily? He would fight to Death. Donald Trump gave his life for the US election, and gained back his life. Leadership isn't just screaming competency, character and comitment, Nigeria will never hand over power to a docile canditate. I voted Peter Obi, and lost hope in his complete faith on the Judiciary. That's why Datti became tired of him. You want to take power, it is taken by brute Force! |

vowiski:My brother, your response actually strengthens my point rather than weakens it. You now say Pastor Chris merely prayed, "Lord give him wings to fly," because he feared the man lacked courage. But that raises an even more troubling question. Since when did the God of Scripture call men without preparing them? Did God call Moses and then discover he was timid? Did God send Joshua into battle and then realize he lacked courage? Did God choose Gideon and then abandon him to his fears? The God revealed in Scripture does not merely call. He equips. "Faithful is He that calleth you, who also will do it." (1 Thessalonians 5:24). More interestingly, your explanation reduces God to a spectator. According to you, heaven identified the right man, prayed for him, watched him lose courage, and then helplessly observed events unfold. That is not the God of the Bible. Besides, if power is ultimately taken by brute force, as you suggest, why invoke angels and prophecies at all? Why not simply say Oshiomhole or Trump would have fought harder? You cannot simultaneously appeal to divine providence and brute force. Either heaven determines outcomes, or Machiavelli does. And that, my brother, is precisely why pastors must be exceedingly careful before clothing personal preferences in prophetic language. For when prophecy fails, it is not God that becomes questionable. It is the men who claimed to speak for Him. |

CharlesCNG:i really hope that they learn. God has been incredibly merciful. Let me help that pastor that was called a teacher but tries to assume the office of the prophet. BAT is in the Bible . But we all know their wishes and thoughts, God still pass them. |
| Re: Pastor Chris, Peter Obi And The Curious Theology Of The 2023 Election by CharlesCNG(op): 11:41am On Jun 22 |
Image123:I sincerely hope lessons have been learnt from 2023. God has been incredibly merciful to His Church. Permit me to help that respected pastor who is called primarily as a teacher but occasionally seems tempted to assume the office of a prophet. For if all we needed was a name in the Bible, then BAT is there too. After all, bats are mentioned in Scripture. 😂 But jokes aside, we all knew where the wishes, hopes and preferences lay. God, in His sovereignty, simply chose to pass over the interpretations of men. That is why James warns us that teachers shall receive stricter judgment. It is one thing to express a political opinion. It is another to baptize that opinion and present it as a whisper from heaven. The tragedy of 2023 was not that some Christians supported Peter Obi. Christians are free to support whoever they wish. The tragedy was that some shepherds appeared determined to help God with His endorsements. But heaven needs no campaign managers. Perhaps the greatest lesson of 2023 is this: God has no Labour Party card. He has no APC card either. And before any man says, "Thus saith the Lord," he should remember that wishes are not prophecies, preferences are not revelations, and hopes are not heavenly decrees. Thankfully, God is wiser than our passions and more sovereign than our politics. And, mercifully, He often saves us from the consequences of our certainties. |

CharlesCNG: heaven has blessed Nigeria with many natural resources only for satan to bring in his own people. The pulpit was also a venue for preaching that people should not sell their vote to the bullion vans CEO.the agbero union that sold their vote to agbero chairman are all lamenting.the criminals that they warn us never to vote in are in charge now .2027 is coming again don't vote Satan's agents. The criminal comes only to steal ,kill and destroy.dont give him chance again in 2027. Cast them out, this is coming from the pulpit.so that the land will be free again

ogolemati:My brother, with respect, your comment reminds me less of the Apostles and more of the Pharisees. Why? Because the Pharisees possessed an extraordinary gift for dividing humanity into two groups: themselves—the righteous—and everyone else—the children of darkness. Does that sound familiar? Those who voted differently are now "Satan's agents," "agberos," and "criminals." Yet the Pharisee in Luke 18 also stood in the temple thanking God that he was not like other men. Spiritual arrogance has always been religion's most respectable sin. Our Lord reserved His harshest words not for tax collectors and sinners but for self-righteous men who imagined themselves custodians of God's electoral register. "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!" (Matthew 23:13). Indeed, it was the Pharisees who confidently declared Jesus Himself a servant of Beelzebub. They were so certain of their righteousness that they mistook the Son of God for an agent of Satan. History has a sense of irony. Perhaps we should be careful before assigning heavenly citizenship to our preferred candidates and infernal passports to their opponents. For the same Jesus who said, "Judge not, that ye be not judged" (Matthew 7:1), also warned that tares and wheat would grow together until the harvest—and He did not appoint Twitter prophets to conduct the separation. Christ died for sinners. He did not establish a political party. And I fear that whenever Christians begin to speak as though heaven belongs to one candidate and hell to his opponents, they have inherited far more from the Pharisees than from Christ. |

CharlesCNG: ok those who voted a man that emptied his bullion vans on his touts are from heaven and the spirit of God in them told them to vote for a criminal.now look at the country.when the righteous is on the throne what did your bible say .and when the wicked is there what did it say. are you happy the way the creator of Lagos state from the sea according to agbero union is ruling the country. when the Pharisees was presented with jesus and the criminal that has stolen their lives away .who did they choose.

"Pastor" Chris might be right. If you look at the etymology of the name "Tinubu", it might have been the Yoruba name derived from "Timothy". |
| Re: Pastor Chris, Peter Obi And The Curious Theology Of The 2023 Election by CharlesCNG(op): 1:23pm On Jun 22 |
ogolemati:My brother, thank you for proving the central thesis of the article. But before we continue, may I respectfully ask that you stop changing the subject? The article was not about Tinubu. It was not about bullion vans. It was not even about whether the economy is good or bad. It was about the dangerous habit of pastors and Christians confusing their political preferences with the voice of God. Notice what has happened. The moment the theological issue is raised, you immediately retreat to politics. That is precisely the deflection the article warned against. As for Proverbs 29:2, kindly remember that it does not say, "When my preferred candidate rules, the people rejoice." Nor does it appoint you and me as heaven's Returning Officers. More amusingly, you invoke the Pharisees. Yet it was the Pharisees who were absolutely certain that God was on their side. They were so convinced of their righteousness that they mistook the Son of God Himself for a criminal and accused Him of working through Beelzebub. Spiritual arrogance has always had excellent intentions. The issue is not whether Tinubu is righteous or wicked. The issue is this: By what authority do you declare millions of Nigerians to be agents of Satan while simultaneously reserving heaven for yourself and your preferred candidate? That sounds less like Christ and more like the Pharisee who thanked God that he was not like other men. My brother, be careful. The surest sign of a Pharisee is not wickedness. It is the unshakable conviction that God belongs exclusively to his side. And that, ironically, was the very spirit that crucified Christ. |

ogolemati:So let us return to the point: Should pastors turn the pulpit into a campaign platform? Should Christians declare opponents satanic because they voted differently? Should personal political preference be presented as God’s decree? That is the issue. Answer that, not with insults, but with reason. Because if your only argument is “cast the devil out,” then you are not defending democracy. You are preaching political possession. |

ogolemati:My brother, once again, you are changing the subject. The topic is not Buhari. The topic is not Tinubu. The topic is not whether the economy is good or bad. The topic is this: Should pastors convert their political preferences into prophecies and present them as the voice of God? You have written several paragraphs and still have not answered that simple question. Instead, you keep calling politicians devils and asking the Church to "cast them out." That is precisely the problem. The Church was commissioned to cast out demons, not elected officials. If you believe Tinubu has failed, defeat him at the ballot box in 2027. But please stop confusing spiritual warfare with partisan politics. The tragedy of 2023 was not that Christians voted differently. It was that some believers became so politically intoxicated that they started seeing devils where they should have seen fellow citizens. And if after all these exchanges your only contribution remains "cast them out," then perhaps you have unintentionally proved the entire thesis of the article. When theology fails, some people reach for demonology |

vowiski:Pastor Chris was just being smart by not exclusively saying Obi would win; he implied it in that message, and the people listening to him believed it. There's no evidence he corrected that impression. If Obi had won, you'd be here celebrating the accuracy of his prophecy, not trying to give us an interpretation that suits the current reality. |
| Re: Pastor Chris, Peter Obi And The Curious Theology Of The 2023 Election by CharlesCNG(op): 8:39pm On Jun 22 |
ogolemati:My brother, once again, you are arguing with your emotions instead of answering the question. Nobody asked you about bullion vans. Nobody asked you about Buhari. The question is simple: Should pastors convert their political preferences into prophecies and present them as the voice of God? You have avoided that question so many times that one begins to suspect the answer is uncomfortable. Instead, you keep returning to "Agbero chairman," as though repetition is a substitute for reasoning. Let me even indulge you. Suppose everything you say about Tinubu is true. Suppose he is the worst President in history. What has that got to do with the propriety of pastors speaking where God has not spoken? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. You remind me of a student who, unable to answer Question 1, proceeds to beautifully answer Question 7 and then demands full marks. My brother, answer the question on the paper. For the tenth time: Was it proper for pastors to convert their hopes, preferences and wishes into divine decrees? Until you answer that, every mention of bullion vans merely confirms that you are running away from the argument. And when a man repeatedly refuses to answer a question, he is often telling you that the answer does not favour him. |
