Messi just missed out on a chance to be the highest world cup goal scorer with that penalty miss. Dem go still arrange another one for him

How was that an arranged penalty?

Well, he did not need a penalty. He just scored an outside-the-box goal, like he always does.

Messi the GOAT of football, and God of soccer was made flesh, and dwelt among men, That God of soccer in human body is Lionel Messi.

I've noticed that media are trying everything to hype the boy Yamal as if he's the best young player we've ever seen in the history of football. Boy is good, but he is still far away from being the best.

Yesterday, Mikel Oyarzabal was the best player on the field, he scored 2 goals and made one assist, yet the whole media is talking about Yamal. This hype won't take him anywhere.
Na so Dem dey hype Ronaldo, na others dey play na him dey collect glory grin

GrammarNazi1:
Even if Yamal wins the Ballon d'Or 10 times (though this is not likely going to happen), he won't still be the best player in history.
if he wins the ballon d'or 10 times and wins the world cup join
Nobody go hear ur own o

This is shaping up as one of Africa's strongest World Cups in years — and the numbers back it, not just the headlines.

The standouts:
- Egypt finally got their World Cup win — 3-1 over New Zealand, Salah leading it. A real monkey off the back.
- Cape Verde, a nation of barely half a million people, has held BOTH Spain (0-0) and Uruguay (2-2). That's not luck twice — that's a seriously well-drilled side.
- Morocco look the real deal again: 1-1 with Brazil, then 1-0 past Scotland. Same compact, counter-punching identity as 2022.
- Ghana opened with a win too.

But let's keep it honest — it's a split, not a clean sweep:
- Tunisia are out and were outclassed (1-5 Sweden, 0-4 Japan).
- Senegal (1-3 France) and Algeria (0-3 Argentina) ran into the big guns and folded.
- South Africa are scrapping for a single point.

The pattern in the bright spots is the same: the organised African sides (Morocco, Cape Verde, Egypt) aren't trying to out-talent anyone — they defend in a block, stay compact, and punish on the transition. In this 48-team format, where even strong third-placed teams advance, that discipline is enough to hold a favourite for 90 minutes.

So the real question for the knockouts: of the African sides still standing, who's actually built to WIN a tie — not just hold one? Morocco look it. Who else?

Canada and Switzerland have one foot in the Round of 32.

One of the toughest groups. Brazil, Morocco and Scotland can all still qualify.

GROUP D

Everything is still open here, but Egypt have put themselves in a strong position.

Saudi Arabia - 1 Point (-4)
Spain are in control, but the second qualification spot remains wide open.

France and Norway are already through to the Round of 32.

GROUP J

GROUP K
Colombia - 6 Points (+3)
Portugal - 4 Points (+5)
DR Congo - 1 Point (-1)
Uzbekistan - 0 Points (-7)
Colombia are through. Portugal are in a very strong position to join them.

GROUP L
England - 4 Points (+2)
Ghana - 4 Points (+1)
Croatia - 3 Points (-1)
Panama - 0 Points (-2)
This group is far from settled. England, Ghana and Croatia all remain in contention.

TEAMS THAT HAVE ALREADY QUALIFIED FOR THE ROUND OF 32
1. Mexico
2. United States
3. Germany
4. France
5. Norway
6. Argentina
7. Colombia
These seven nations have booked their places in the knockout stage with a game to spare.

KUDOS TO THE AFRICAN TEAMS

-Morocco are well placed in Group C.

-Ivory Coast remain second in Group E.

-Egypt currently lead Group G.

-Cape Verde are still in the hunt in Group H.

-Ghana are second in Group L.

-Algeria still have a chance in Group J.

Despite South Africa, Tunisia and Senegal facing difficult situations, African teams have shown plenty of fight and are still well represented heading into the final group matches.

Which team has impressed you the most so far, and who do you think is heading home after the final group stage games?

Still early but it is looking like an Argentina v France final yet again. Both these teams are heads and shoulders above the rest.

I think France will win this World Cup.
