[/b]After nearly a decade at the Ambrose Alli University College of Medicine in Ekpoma, a newly inducted medical doctor, Dr Wilson Efua Stephanie, has moved many with a deeply emotional and unusual souvenir, a pack of garri.[b]

In a heartfelt reflection on her journey, she described garri as her savior throughout the demanding years of medical school.

She recalled how there were many difficult days when lectures were overwhelming, finances were tight, and survival often depended on the simplest meals. Through it all, garri remained a constant source of comfort that helped her push through exhaustion, pressure, and uncertainty.

Now fully inducted as a doctor, she chose to mark her achievement in a symbolic way. Instead of luxury items or conventional souvenirs, she held up garri as a reminder of everything she endured to reach the finish line.

To her, it is more than food. It represents sacrifice, endurance, quiet struggle, and the journey from hardship to triumph, a story now sealed with the title of doctor.

If she puts rice inside the package, it would have cost her more. So it's garri that is the cheapest to go inside the package.

Nice one, garri deserve more honor than it's current position. Many of us survived the hardship, relying on it day and night but the moment we make it, we turn our back on garri, we would join the bandwagon, calling garri poor man's food, we suddenly forgot how garri took us to that rich man status. in fact, some even refused to acknowledge in public that they survived the journey to the top, relying mostly on garri.
So, I am happy and proud of her for climbing that stage of honor, not alone but carrying along that food that stood by her all through.

What an irony in this part of the globe..she is sharing gifts when she does not know how she would fit in the labour market. Instead of her to prepare her mind to become a consultant. Naija & waste nah water
