There is indeed a syndrome spreading through some set of individuals

It is called Tinubu Stockholm Syndrome.

Its symptoms are even easier to identify.

Once afflicted, the patient loses the ability to evaluate Tinubu by the standards they once applied to every other politician. Memory becomes selective. Logic becomes flexible. Principles become disposable. Every failure becomes an excuse. Every criticism becomes an insult. Every hardship becomes a sacrifice Nigerians must bear and endure in silence

That is the syndrome.

A person suffering from Tinubu Stockholm Syndrome does not ask, Are their lives better off today? Are Nigerians better off today than they were before Tinubu became president? He asks, How do I defend the Tinubu today? How do I stand on his dilapidated and decrepit mandate?

He is also inflicted with Tinubu Excuse Disorder

When fuel, cooking gas prices rises, it is global. When food price rises because of the calamitous policies mascurading as economic reforms, it is inherited. When insecurity rises and goes out of control, it is historical. In Tinubu Excuse Disorder, responsibility is shifted.

A person with Tinubu Stockholm Syndrome does not examine outcomes. He manufactures explanations.

He does not compare promises with performance. He compares criticism with treason.

Before 2023, They told us Tinubu built Lagos. They told us he transformed Lagos from scratch. They told us he tamed the Atlantic Ocean. They told us Lagos was a mini Nigeria and that if he could govern Lagos, governing Nigeria would be child's play.

They told us that Tinubu will assemble egg-heads and best brains as president

Their confidence was limitless.

Then reality arrived.

Three years later, the same people who promised prosperity now spend their days explaining inflation. Those who promised stability now explain hardship. Those who promised competence now explain away insecurity. Those who promised a stronger naira now explain its collapse. Those who promised Renewed hope now explain Renewed suffering.

And because reality has contradicted them, they have redirected their frustration toward critics.

Every critics is first diagnosed from the prism of ethnic background, Every critic is pigeon-hold accordingly as an Obidient, a Peter Obi supporter, Igbo

That is why every conversation now ends with insults, tribal attacks, ethnic baiting, and accusations of hatred.

The greatest damage Tinubu has done to many of his supporters is not merely political. It is that he has robbed them of the self-esteem required to admit disappointment and the critical thinking required to acknowledge failure.

A supporter with self-respect can say: I supported this policy and it failed.

A supporter with critical thinking can say: I voted for this government but I disagree with its performance.

But a victim of Tinubu Stockholm Syndrome cannot. To him, admitting failure feels like admitting personal defeat.

The irony is almost comical. Tinubu himself was once one of Nigeria's loudest critics.

He criticised previous governments relentlessly. He attacked Goodluck Jonathan over insecurity. He asked Goodluck Jonathan to resign over insecurity. He demanded accountability. He questioned competence. He insisted that leaders must be judged by results, not excuses.

He organized, funded protests, civil disobedience etc

Back then, criticism was called patriotism.

Today, criticism is called hatred.

Back then, insecurity was proof of failed leadership.

Today, insecurity is somehow not Tinubu's responsibility. It's the responsibility of governors. The governors have failed not Tinubu

Back then, Nigerians were told to hold leaders accountable.

Today, Nigerians are told to not to complain , rather they should sacrifice and endure.

The same standard they enthusiastically applied to Jonathan is now considered offensive when applied to Tinubu.

Today, criticism is disease, a critic is bitter...a hater but they forget that the citizen's job is not to protect politicians from scrutiny.

The citizen's job is to protect the country from bad governance.

A mind infected with Tinubu Stockholm Syndrome sees only one thing:

Tinubu must never be wrong.

And once that happens, the disease is complete.

People should learn not to be loyal to people, but only to their own beliefs and ideologies.

People fail, people have agenda. Entrusting your loyalty to a person will make it hard to criticize or remove them when they ultimately fail.
