The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register a new political party called the Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDA) and hand over their certificate.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu delivered the judgment on Tuesday, June 23.

Tamunotonye Samuel Solomon Inioribo and two others had sued INEC for blocking the party’s registration back in December 2025. Before INEC rejected them, the political association had already secured initial approval, submitted all necessary paperwork, and passed security and background checks on their national leaders and offices.

The founders headed to court, insisting they ticked every single box required by law. Justice Egwuatu agreed with their argument and ordered INEC to issue the CDA its registration certificate without delay.

With the ruling, the political parties heading into the 2027 elections are set to increase.

The CDA describes itself as a progressive movement ready to push for democratic reforms, jumpstart the economy, and bring accountability to the government.

Nigeria currently has 22 registered political parties, all of which have already handed over their membership lists to INEC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDA) welcomes today's judgment of the Federal High Court concerning the registration of our Party.

We commend the Court for upholding the Constitution, the rule of law, and the democratic rights of Nigerians.

We thank our members, supporters, legal team, and all Nigerians who stood with us throughout this process.

Today's judgment is not merely a victory for the CDA. It is a victory for democracy, political inclusion, constitutional governance, and the right of citizens to freely organize and participate in the democratic process.

The Citizens Democratic Alliance bears no ill will towards any institution or individual. Our commitment has always been to the expansion of democratic space, respect for the rule of law, and the advancement of national development.

This judgment marks the beginning of a new chapter. As a political party, we shall continue to engage peacefully, responsibly, and constructively in the democratic life of our nation.

Now, I get what they were trying to do. They're thinking: 'Yes! We are the party of hard work! We will bury corruption!'

But guys, when a regular citizen looks at a shovel, they don't think, 'Ah, yes! Infrastructure! 'They think, 'Oh my god... they are making us dig our own graves!'

Honestly, though, you have to respect the transparency . Most politicians wait until after they are elected to dig a massive financial hole for the country. The CDA is the only party courteous enough to show up to the campaign trail with the proper excavation equipment on Day One

I want to see how they will campaign. Maybe we will start going to mining sites for their campaign or they will have to wear helmets 🤡
