Chief Superintendent of Police Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu was recently made the public relations officer of the Nigerian Police Force. He visited his predecessor, DIG Frank Mba (rtd) at his law firm.

DIG Frank Mba (rtd) is a lawyer and retired policeman.

He joined the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in 1992 as a cadet officer and was trained at the Nigeria Police Academy in Kano, where he graduated in 1994 as the best cadet.

Mba began his policing career as an Inspector and steadily rose through the ranks. In 1999, he was promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), followed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in 2003. He was promoted to Superintendent of Police (SP) in 2008, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) in 2012, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in 2014, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in 2018, and Commissioner of Police (CP) in December 2020. In March 2023, he was decorated as an Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).

He was a two-time spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command and a two-time spokesman of the Nigeria Police Force.

He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Lagos, where he also attended the Nigerian Law School and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002. He further pursued a Master’s degree in Law (LLM) at the University of Dundee in Scotland, United Kingdom, graduating with Distinction. He also holds a doctorate in Security and Peace Studies from the University of Ibadan.

He is also an alumnus of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Harvard University’s programme on National and International Security, and the University of Oxford’s Strategic Leadership course.

He is a Member of the National Institute (mni), having completed the Senior Executive Course at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru.


Beyond public communication, Mba held key operational positions, including Commissioner of Police in Ogun State and the Border Patrol Force. He later served as Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos.

His international exposure includes service in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Liberia between 2006 and 2007, for which he received a UN Medal.

Go and check the credentials of all former DIGs from the South East. Mba is the one with the least impressive credentials.

Aniete Iniedu is the Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Police Force.

Placid Okon is the immediate past Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Police Force.

Very many police officers studied law. Examples include Nuhu Ribadu, Solomon Arase, Kpotun Idris, etc.

They either study law or social science courses (sociology, criminology, etc).

I read where you said Frank MBA was called to the Bar in 2002. I thought lawyers aren't allowed to do anything else, other than farming?

I suspect that you've mixed up lawyers and civil servants.

It's civil servants that are not allowed to do anything else other than farming.
