Nigeria's democracy is strongest when every major component of the federation feels a sense of belonging and inclusion. Since the return to democratic rule in 1999, the presidency has been occupied by leaders from different regions of the country. The South-West has produced a president, the North-West has produced presidents, and the South-South has also occupied the highest office. Yet, the South-East remains the only major geopolitical zone that has not had the opportunity to produce a democratically elected president in the Fourth Republic. Giving the Igbo a chance at the presidency should not merely be viewed as an ethnic concession; it should be seen as a commitment to fairness, national unity, and the principles of federal character upon which Nigeria was founded. A nation thrives when all groups believe they have an equal stake in its future. Beyond the argument of equity, the South-East has consistently demonstrated remarkable entrepreneurial capacity, resilience, innovation, and commitment to economic development. Across Nigeria, Igbo entrepreneurs have built businesses, created jobs, and contributed significantly to commerce, manufacturing, and trade. The region has produced numerous professionals, academics, technocrats, and business leaders who have excelled both within Nigeria and internationally. The question before Nigerians should not be, "Where is the candidate from?" but rather, "Who has the competence, vision, integrity, and capacity to lead?" Modern nations progress when merit takes precedence over ethnic considerations. Countries that have achieved sustainable development did so by prioritizing leadership quality over tribal, religious, or regional sentiments. Nigeria has paid a heavy price for politics driven by ethnicity, nepotism, and sectional interests. Tribalism has often divided citizens, weakened national cohesion, and distracted the country from addressing pressing challenges such as insecurity, unemployment, poverty, infrastructure deficits, and economic growth. The future of Nigeria depends on moving beyond these divisions and embracing a culture where leadership is earned through performance and ability. The South-East has produced individuals with proven records in governance, business, public administration, academia, and industry. Therefore, Nigerians should evaluate candidates from the region with an open mind and on the basis of their ideas, competence, and track records rather than ethnic stereotypes or historical prejudices. Giving an Igbo candidate a fair opportunity to contest and potentially lead the nation would send a powerful message that Nigeria belongs to all its citizens. It would strengthen national integration, deepen democratic participation, and reinforce the belief that every Nigerian, regardless of ethnic background, can aspire to the highest office in the land. Ultimately, the call is not for Nigerians to support a candidate simply because he or she is Igbo. Rather, it is a call to reject tribalism and nepotism, embrace meritocracy, and judge every candidate by their vision, competence, character, and ability to deliver results. A united and prosperous Nigeria can only emerge when citizens place national interest above ethnic loyalties and choose leaders based on what they can achieve for the country as a whole. |

Sonyboom:honestly if we are to go by the way most igbos proudly called Nigeria a zoo then, they don't deserve any support from other zones to be president. you can't eat ur cake and also want it again. they need to grant full apologies on print and electronic media and they will be consider in 2039. |

kedeojo:nobody will vote them, they themselves know but are trying to play to d gallery They insulted the country n call it a zoo They insulted the northerners n call them cows The called the south west derogatory names They insult the south south at will too. They are the only region that doesn't have any alliance with any other regions in Nigeria and instead of trying to form alliance they believe insulting, bullying, character assassination will get them presidency. Oya now |

BATified2023:You are very right but for the sake of the very few sane ones, Nigerians should considered them in 2039 and vote a pan Nigerian igbo not obi kind of south east. may God keep all of us alive to them cos I will campaign for them against my south south person, if they brought a detrabilize candidate. |

Why should the SE feel cheated at this point? The SW is three times the size of the SE by population and if the SW has not led Nigeria three times the number of times the SE has led then there is no cheating yet. |

ariesbull:A poorly written original post full of contradictions and based on emotional tribalism. Nobody hands presidential power to anybody based on emotions or where you come from. You build bridges across all the political and geographical zones of the country. Based on this adult voters will cast their vote for their preferred candidate. Unfortunately the Ibo as represented by Peter Obi have failed to do this, rather they have resorted to bullying and abuse as a means to attain political power. It is not going to work in present day Nigeria. |

ariesbull:We all rightly criticised tinubu for shouting emilokan in 2023, and we also blasted Buhari for behaving as if leadership was his birthright by tribe...and we all blasted those who opposed GEJ In 2010 on the basis of tribe. And now you are here doing as they said Plus, we are all NIgerians, we all got equal rights to the presidency. It is the turn of the person ready to do the spadework.... There are better ways to campaign for peter obi, abeg. This is not one of them. |

ariesbull:You just confirmed my post. Bullying and insults will make your people lose the presidency once again. Learn to reach out a political hand of friendship to other tribes instead of trying to run roughshod over other tribes by insults and abuse ala Obidients. I know you would not listen and will cry rigging once again when Peter Obi suffers another devastating and humiliating defeat in the next presidential election. After that you can resume the suspended mantra of "Biafra or death!" |
